Thank you for looking into our auction of this ANTIQUE HOLTZMAN AND SONS PIANO STOOL WITH CLAW AND BALL FEET. This is a used stool. So it does have usage mark on it, especially on the seat. There are small holes all around the side of the seat. As I understand from the person who owned this stool and gave it to us years ago as a gift, it was common in the Victorian era to cover these stools and have a heavy fringe or tassels hanging down from the seat of the stool. We took that fringe off the stool, because it was really in bad shape, and that left these tack holes. You don't really notice those holes, unless you are looking for them or looking closely at the edge of the seat. Besides those holes, there are also some other scratches and scrapes on the seat. The seat turns on a screw to allow you to adjust the stool to your special height. ... moreThe seat is approximately 1-1/2 inches thick, but it consists of a finished top nailed onto a solid wood bottom. Those two parts of the seat have begun to separate, but that hasn't caused any problems with using the stool, and the seat can probably be better joined together, if you have a desire to do that. The legs of the stool have been painted a light green color, and, as should be expected from a piece this old, there are some places where the paint has come off the legs. Other than the paint problem, the legs are still in fine condition and the are sturdy. The ends of the legs are covered with fancy metal, probably brass,which holds a glass ball that rests on the floor. The stool is still sturdy, and you wouldn't need to fear using it. The stool stands approximately 16 inches high, not including the seat. The seat adds another 1-1/2 inches to the height. With the seat screwed the whole way up, the stool is about 24 inches high. Made in the early 1900's by the Henry Holtzman Sons Piano Company, which operated in Columbus Ohio between 1893 and 1959. This highly desirable company produced piano covers, stools, chairs, benches and cabinets. This piano stool is made of solid walnut with beautiful contoured parts and turned legs. The legs rest on cast/iron and glass ball and claw feet. The rotary seat makes it possible to raise and lower the seat and is functioning well. Up for auction is this ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE SOLID OAK PIANO ADJUSTABLE STOOL! MADE BY HOLTZMAN&SONS FROM COLUMBUS OHIO. It is in very good condition for its age. It is from the 1900's after all. It is adjustable height. It has the unpolished brass or cast iron claw feet not sure what material it is. The glass balls have NO cracks and are in very good condition and very clear glass. On the bottom of the glass feet are pads so they didn't get scratched or cracked. I will leave it up to the buyer to keep them on or remove them. On the underside it says HOLTZMAN. This is a very RARE stool from Holtzman& Sons, having 4 ornate solid column spindle legs around a larger column center spindle. The ornate edged mahogany seat is 14" in diameter and adjusts by spinning the seat in one direction or the other. The seat is secured to the metal screw and plate. This piano bench was made by H. Holtzman& sons in the early 20 th century. We believe the stool is made of cherry. The stool is 18 ½ inches high and when raised 22 inches high. The round seat portion is 14 ½ inches in diameter. The seat raises with ease. It has hand turned legs and metal claw feet. The stool has been overhauled mechanically and refinished. Some of the replacements screws are phillips head. The seat is red. Tan and black. Everything works properly and we did not identify any damage. The base is about 17" leg to leg& 16 1/2" tall with a 10" diameter at the top. The worm gear won't turn& the cast iron top bracket is loose from the shaft causing a wobble& as in the picture. One of the 4 screw holes is broke& bracket has been moved about a 1/4 turn. The seat is 14 1/2" in diameter& 1 1/2" thick. There are 2 bad spots on the bottom of the seat at the edge as in the pictures& 1 chip on the under side of the base where the leg spindle meets the center. This came from an estate sale. Outward apperance of the stool is good& with a little TLC it would be a nice piece of furniture.

Antique 1908 Oak Piano Stool, Ball & Claw Feet, Holtzman & Sons FOR PARTS
This is a beautiful stool. Except for the damage: The grain is great and the color is still quite rich although there is wear to the finish in places. Particularly to the seat; I'm not sure if this has ever been refinished. I purchased it with the thought of repairing it but we're moving next year and I need to clear out my projects. The center column is missing half; also missing is the rod that would have fed down through the column. The ball bearing parts are missing too. If a person was going to use the seat there are a couple of places that may or may not want filling in. And also there is some sort of hard, dried substance on it. The legs are loose so this could not/should not bear weight in its present condition. The legs appear to be without cracks but consider this stool to be for parts or repair as it has extensive damage ... moreand I may miss mentioning something. The four metal bird-like claw feet are in excellent condition with a beautiful patina and great detail; there is some rust present. The glass balls are all present. Overall they are in good condition and look great when the stool is in proper position. However. One has a very shallow chip and another has its back side broke off in a peculiarly flat, smooth fashion so maybe it's a production flaw. The screws look to be original. The iron plate on the underside of the seat reads HOLTZMAN& SONS COLUMBUS O. I'm not sure of the age of this stool but Holtzman was in operation from the 1860's to 1959 and remained family-owned for the duration. I believe. This looks to be from its earlier decades. It has a patent date stamped underneath of June 18, 08. I will be offering a choice between standard and priority shipping so make sure you compare costs at checkout. A lovely turned and fluted center column, turned and fluted spreaders, and legs, and glass ball with brass finished metal claw feet that support the piano stool with much elegance and add just the right finishing touch. This has the original H. Holtzman and Sons metal label. Seat is 14 1/2 inches wide and is adjustable from 19 inches to 24 inches high. It has the original finish and is in excellent shape for its age.

Beautiful antique oak adjustable swivel piano stool by Holtzman& Sons. Columbus, Ohio. The two-part wooden seat has been re-screwed, re-glued, old damaged area filled and stained and the whole thing was set and clamped. The cast iron claw feet have been de-rusted(mostly- there is still some small rust spots in pitted areas) and coated with a thin polyurethane protectant to insure another 100+ years of enjoyment. The glass balls in the feet are almost perfect- with the tiny bubbles still clearly visible in the glass, and only a few tiny nicks. Thank you for looking!
