The surface is distressed, primarily a silvered finish highlighted by gilt-gold. The arms scroll in an acanthus-inspired motif to culminate in leafed rosettes, flowing into the carved reeded silvered supports that join at the apron in a gilt pattern of repeating droplets at the center. And dammed to create the mill pond and drive the water wheel, which was housed in the three storey section of the building. The water mill was converted to steam in the late 1800s. When the wheel was replaced by a steam engine, with the ground grain being used as feed for the horses at the nearby Croft Quarry. When those horses were replaced by mechanised vehicles in the 1950s, the mill finally closed. This vintage wooden footstool or ottoman with needlepoint seat has a casual Early American appearance due to the sleigh shape curved blond painted wood frame and legs. Antique Deacon's Bench Late 1700-early1800's- Solid Oak- 5 feet long
This beautiful solid oak hand-carved bench is a rare find. It measures 60 in. long. 43 in. high and 19 in. wide. The seat lifts up for storage. I inheirited it from my mother who received it from her mother. We believe it came from Germany or France but have not been able to find much information on it and certainly nothing like it. The bench is much darker than it looks in the pictures. Almost black with age. It is in near original condition with the exception of a small piece of wood on the seat which had to be repaired due to wear. It has only been wiped down with Murphy's Oil Soap to remove dust.
