This is an original 1920's vintage UHL American industrial"posture line" factory industrial chair. Please refer to pictures as they are a big part of the description. Chairs are in very good structual condition. Walnut chair seat and back are in great condition in relation to these chairs age. Metal shows surface rust in places as pictured. But I have decided to leave them in as found condition with the green paint with light rust as some prefer the patina that comes with age. Original rubber feet with the words"Pussyfoot" and"Toledo Metal Co. are imprinted into the rubber. These chairs fabricated around 1922-25 by The Toledo Metal Furniture Co. This factory office chair was made according to the recommendations of the American Posture League of New York City. Its use brings the pelvis in right relation to the spine. So that one's weight is distributed over the pelvis and thighs. Nearly all parts of the chair are comprised of steel, cold rolled and die formed. The base is rigidly braced and has long wearing quality. The braces which make the base rigid are held in place by retainers set inside the"u" shaped legs, so that there is no pivoting motion to weaken the construction. The back wire or spring support is made of spring steel and yields pleasantly to the pressure of the body. Four bolts with large size wing nuts hold the seat and"spider" in the base of the chair. Adjustment of height is accomplished by removing the wing nuts and bolts, setting at proper heights and replacing the bolts. The seat should always be level, which is assured by seeing that the same number of holes appear above or below the brace on each leg of the large steel channel which furnishes the adjustment. Wooden swivel seat top on an industrial green frame with footrest. Foot rest is 18" in diameter. Seat height is adjustable. The wooden seat measures 15" diameter and stands 28" high at its lowest adjustment. It can adjust up about 3" +. I will lower it down all the way for shipment. This was found in very nice condition. There is a bit of exposed metal here and there. Some light discoloration, light surface rust and surface scratches. The foot rest has the most paint wear from use. Vintage Industrial Toledo UHL Draftsman Stool Machine Age Chair 1930s Green NR
This 1930's Toledo Steel UHL Industrial draftsman or shop design stool is in very good condition. The metal on the legs and seat support rim is a dark industrial green and shows minimal wear for a stool of this age. The wood seat has the original finish and has a green tint to it. The foot rest is missing most of the paint on the top and shows more tarnish than the legs. As would be natural for this area of the stool. The pad ball feet also show some tarnish. I think the foot rest and feet could easily be cleaned with a light scrbbing of steel wool and some oil. The rest of the stool needs nothing more than a light cleaning with oil or wax. It is structurally sound and has no missing parts that I can see. It has the majority of the original foil label still intact on the underside of the seat. Here we have a vintage or antique Machine Age industrial drafting stool by UHL Toledo. This stool is the authentic item but it is missing it's label. As you can see from the photos there is some wear and paint damage as well as some mild rusting but it is in great condition as you can see from the photos an awesome look. The seat of this stool is about 24 inches tall and it's surface area is about 16 inches by 14 inches. As shown in the photos the back rest is about 38 inches tall. The height of the chair is no longer able to adjust. When it was in factory use it seems that they customized the chair so that it could not adjust higher but the stool does swivel. Listing details: Quantity: 1) one Toledo chair. Description Authentic Vintage Toledo Uhl Adjustable height chair/ stool. Very rare 21” diameter wide chrome base with riveted foot rest ring. Has the original Toledo/Uhl tag intact. You will be hard pressed to find another like this! Excellent condition with authentic age commensurate wear. The wood seat and back has lots of vintage industrial character. Old staple marks(previously upholstered) and a smooth‘Dutchman’ repair on the seat. But with no chunks missing from the edges, as is often the case. The seat swivels smoothly. The chrome riveted base has the iconic spring loaded squeeze lever to adjust seat height. The chair has a very stable wide base. And the seat height adjusts from approximately 16” to 24” in height. The back rest also adjusts. And has the original early plastic bakelite? ... moretype knob. The original wood seat and back have a smooth finish and have been refinished nicely in a light color. And look great(the underneath is unfinished and darker) This Toledo chair has smooth bottom glide feet. Excellent condition with authentic age commensurate wear. The wood seat and back has lots of vintage industrial character. Old staple marks(previously upholstered) and a smooth‘Dutchman’ repair on the seat. But with no plywood chunks missing from the edges, as is often the case. The seat swivels smoothly. The chrome riveted base is solid and has the iconic spring loaded squeeze lever to adjust seat height. The chair has a very stable wide base. And the seat height adjusts from approximately 16” to 24” in height. The back rest ... morealso adjusts up and down. And has the original early plastic bakelite? type knob. The original wood seat and back have a smooth finish and have been refinished nicely in a light color. And look great(the underneath is unfinished and darker) This Toledo chair has smooth bottom glide feet. Which protect floors, as opposed to casters which can cause damage) This chair is in better condition than is usually found(please see the photos) This chair is great as a stylish stand-alone chair. A desk chair, or drafting stool or worktable chair. The height range for the chair adjusts perfectly for sitting at a 36” kitchen‘ counter height. Or any lower table height. This chair is not. However, a‘bar‘stool, and will not work for 42” high bar height. This not a brand new item.
