It measures 14" in diameter at the swivel top x 18"24" tall. It features beehive turned legs. Stretchers and center post with four splayed legs showing a 4-claw metal foot with glass balls, and the original finish on the oak wood. The footstool is in good condition. It shows age shrinkage gaps across the top between the three boards. But is tight and structurally sound in every respect. A nice and very old all original piano stool! There is a poor repair on one leg though it is attached like steel. See photo. The grain is extremely raised and the feel is rough. It measures 18 3/4" to top of seat at lowest position. The seat is 14 5/8" in diameter. If you just want to purchase the ball and claw feet.I will remove them and will only send the feet. ANTIQUE OAK BARLEY TWIST PIANO STOOL ~ PERFECT
This is a beautiful antique piano stool. I think the wood is oak and the twist gives it a one of a kind look that you don't find very often in piano stools. This one is in fantastic condition with fringed upholstery and the metal feet that look like serpent heads. The feet are gold colored and the finish is worn on the top of each head. I suspect it's a good foot rest while playing the piano. It measures 18 1/2" tall and 13" across the seat. There is one small spot on the edge of the seat that looks like something was spilled on it. I'm sure it's cleanable but it won't may not matter if you plan to have it recovered. I have no idea how old it is but others have suggested perhaps the turn of the 20th century. It does not look like it has ever been refinished. The Seat spins to easily adjust the seat up or down. The Seat adjusts up to 19” in overall height and lowers to 17¾” in overall height. Diameter of the seat is 14¼” The claws measure 2” from outside to outside. The Seat shows some wear and some cracking and appears someone has glued it to secure it together. There is a ring on the seat where someone has set a glass or something and there are some scratches. I believe the seat at one point was refinished as it is lighter than the legs. Age is late 1800's to early 1900's. 19 1/2" fully down-24 1/2" fully up to where the threads come undone so about 23" of safe usable height. Seat is 14 1/4" diameter and dished in the middle for comfort. Signed Schuermann Washington NJ. Leg spread is 14" across the closest feet. 18 1/2" across the farthest. Glass/crystal balls have air bubbles and in good shape. Threads in the iron mounting mechanism look good and are not worn out and it adjusts nicely. Wood is probably oak. Joints are tight. Some shallow drying cracks. Seat has various colored woods but looks original. You can feel the joint where the wood changes color o the seat but it seems solid enough. I am going to remove the 4 screws that hold the iron to the bottom of the seat to hold the box size down for shipping. Antique 1908 Oak Piano Stool, Ball & Claw Feet, Holtzman & Sons FOR PARTS
This is a beautiful stool. Except for the damage: The grain is great and the color is still quite rich although there is wear to the finish in places. Particularly to the seat; I'm not sure if this has ever been refinished. I purchased it with the thought of repairing it but we're moving next year and I need to clear out my projects. The center column is missing half; also missing is the rod that would have fed down through the column. The ball bearing parts are missing too. If a person was going to use the seat there are a couple of places that may or may not want filling in. And also there is some sort of hard, dried substance on it. The legs are loose so this could not/should not bear weight in its present condition. The legs appear to be without cracks but consider this stool to be for parts or repair as it has extensive damage ... moreand I may miss mentioning something. The four metal bird-like claw feet are in excellent condition with a beautiful patina and great detail; there is some rust present. The glass balls are all present. Overall they are in good condition and look great when the stool is in proper position. However. One has a very shallow chip and another has its back side broke off in a peculiarly flat, smooth fashion so maybe it's a production flaw. The screws look to be original. The iron plate on the underside of the seat reads HOLTZMAN& SONS COLUMBUS O. I'm not sure of the age of this stool but Holtzman was in operation from the 1860's to 1959 and remained family-owned for the duration. I believe. This looks to be from its earlier decades. It has a patent date stamped underneath of June 18, 08. I will be offering a choice between standard and priority shipping so make sure you compare costs at checkout. Up for auction is this lovely Victorian Tonk Chicago Piano Stool. It is an original 1900s to 1910 in pretty great condition. There are some traces of gold solder on the bottom which has no effect on the stability of this lovely stool. The seat is flawless oak with a lovely aged patina and has a nice bevel like design on the sides and a slightly concave center. Probably to use a cushion with it. and the legs are very ornate with gold enameling over black steel. There is a metal plate on the bottom that reads Tonk Chicago. I believe it is supposed to swivel and the seat is supposed to adjust to desired height Unextended it measures about 18 inches high by 20 inches leg span and the seat is approximately 14 1/2 inches across. Beautiful antique oak adjustable swivel piano stool by Holtzman& Sons. Columbus, Ohio. The two-part wooden seat has been re-screwed, re-glued, old damaged area filled and stained and the whole thing was set and clamped. The cast iron claw feet have been de-rusted(mostly- there is still some small rust spots in pitted areas) and coated with a thin polyurethane protectant to insure another 100+ years of enjoyment. The glass balls in the feet are almost perfect- with the tiny bubbles still clearly visible in the glass, and only a few tiny nicks. Thank you for looking!
