Thick, quarter sawn oak construction. This would be off the charts expensive to have custom made today in mill shop. It has the classic, gothic, repeating arch design. All recessed arches are deeply bevelled. 5 levels of depth overall, give it a 3 dimensional look. Cornice molded top cap. The panel measures approx 18 inches tall by 17 5/8 inches wide. This listing is for the beautiful ornate 52 inch wide antique oak church pew pictured. It has a feature that is extremely rare.ornate applied carvings on both the outside of the end panels as well as on the inside of the panels(near the top on the inside) In 12 or more years of buying and selling 400 or more antique church pews. I have never had any with applied carvings on the inside of the end panels. The pew has been shortened from its original length and is just as it was used in the church; I have gone over it with Old English to cover over scratches from the nearly 100 years of usage. It is completely authentic and is an attractive looking piece that would look great in your family room. Entry way, on your porch or patio, in a sun room, in an office or reception area, or just about anywhere seating you would like to place them. The ... morepew is 52 inches wide at the rear of the pew. You can see that both end panels taper in slightly. Making the front of the pew slightly narrower than the back of the pew. The end panels are 38 1/2" high. When placed against the wall. The pew will extend out into the room 24" Seat height is 15 1/2" from the floor and seat depth is 15" There is a slight curvature to the benches that you can see in the pictures. There is a very nice 32 inch wide hymnal rack attached to the back side of the pew. There is also a copper visitor card or small envelope holder on the back; this is probably not original to the pew but was added at some time by the church in Williamsport. Pa where the pew was used for over 100 years. The pew has some scuffs and rubs in the finish from well over 100 years of service in the church but it is very sturdy and in nice cosmetic condition. The pew was originally much longer with a middle support piece in place.perhaps 20 feet long or more. Primitive Antique Oak Church Pew
Very old primitive oak church pew. Needs a complete restoration. I had this in my house for many years and since moving it has been stored in a shed for many years. It is in need of a good cleaning also. One of the boards on seat is warped. Probably could be fixed with some type of support under seat. I made a cushion for the seat when I had it in the house. That worked for me. It measures 6 feet long. 37 inches high at the highest point and 20 inches deep. This was originally rescued from a dirt floor shed so part of the feet were rotted off. The gothic-style carvings are exquisite, the wood gorgeous, some beautiful quarter-sawn tiger oak flake and beautiful embossed or carved details, a true beauty. Measures about 40" High. 13' 10" Long& 26" Deep. Everything looks sound. It's strong, whatever minor age or use-related comments are very minor. About the nicest pew of this style& in the best condition I've seen. I love these carved pews, have collected a few, so I'm surprised by how little wear this one shows. This one is really long. I've seen folks shorten them by taking off an end. Shortening the bench& re-attaching the end, but I'll leave that to the the next custodian of this piece. Awesome1/4 sawn oak (end panels) antique church pew from Alabama church/100+ yrs
I'm back(after an absence of 5-6 months) with a beautiful antique oak church pew with quarter sawn oak end panels. The last antique pews I had were sold 5-6 months ago months ago and we have moved since then and I have been busy completing some parts of the remodeling. Those projects aren't completed but I took a break 4 or 5 weeks ago and made a 1300 mile round trip to Alabama to purchase a lot of pews from the Providence Tabernacle Pentacostal Church in Ashland. Alabama. I am using the proceeds from the sale of these pews to pay for the cost of going on a 16 day missions trip to the Philippines.I left on the trip less than 48 hours after returning from picking up the pews. I was a member of a group of 12 adults and youth who assisted with the rebuilding of three churches that were damaged by a typhoon last November as well as conducting ... morechildren's ministries reaching several hundred children from the villages where the churches were located on the island of Panay. Your purchase of the pew will be much appreciated and you will have assisted me in sharing the gospel with hundreds of people who live in very rural settings half way around the world! The pew is 50 inches wide and the end panels are 34 1/2 inches high. It will extend out the the wall a total of 25 inches. The seat height is 16 inches from the floor. You can see from the pictures that portions of the applied carvings are missing but you can see where they were due to the las of staining underneath the carvings. I have included three pictures that show minor flaws in the finish where slight scratches and very shallow gouges are in the wood. The pew is in the original finish; I have gone over it with Old English to bring out the graining in the woods of the pew and put one coat of finish to provide a sheen to the pew. One of the end panels has a narrow wood shim placed between the bottom of the end panel and the base to allow the pew end to rest firmly on the floor; it is not noticeable to the naked eye when the pew is in place. This early 1927 pew is a beautiful piece of church history. The wood is solid oak. This pew or"deacon's bench" has a high back. The ends have a beautiful design(see pictures) This is a 5.5' pew- actual measurement outside to outside is 67" It is 42" tall. This pew sits flat on the floor- not slanted like some that where in churches with a sloped floor. These pews are very heavy since each end weighs 43 lbs. plus the weight of the bench. Here you are bidding on a"Antique Solid Oak Church Pew" This is a real beauty. Very OLD as it could be pre 1900's but I can't say for sure. It has a heavypatena on it and shows a lot of wear from over the 100 plus years. The pew has scuffs. Some gauges, dents, nics and a split on each of its ends as seen in picture. That said though it is completely intact& solid oak. There is a reinforcement on the underneath of one side as seen in the second to last picture. I'm not sure if it was really needed but at one point someone decided to attach it. Again, it's integrity is intact. Antique Oak Church Pew Heavily Carved To Be Restored Buyer's Spec.
The pew is not completed. Needs to be cut to buyer's spec. It is 7' 7" long. I usually cut them to 4' but this time I will cut to buyer's spec. The pew you see in the photos that is complete is SOLD. The photos of the sold pew are a little blurry and darker than it really was but thats all I have. I recommend finishing out the same way. watco black walnut stain) 3 coats of catalyzed lacquer, hand rubbed to a soft satin glow, then wool lubed. All repairs will be made. Any areas that need gluing will be done using Brownell's Acraglas, any areas that need to be filled will be done with the same material. The pew is well over 100 yrs old, it will not look new when finished but it will last another 100 yrs. This is the last one of about 13 that was cut down and restored.
