Great Arts & Crafts Footstool. Original Leather and Tacks. Heavy Oak.
This solid little footstool is class Arts& Crafts/Mission. Very plain. With mortise and tenon construction, the oak has a wonderful creamy texture and was long ago stained a mahogany color to match the leather upholstery. Tacks are old and beautiful. The leather is worn, peeling off in points, but as I always say when talking about antiques, this adds to the charm. And this piece is very sturdy and entirely useable. Antique Mission Oak Arts & Crafts Footstool Bench
For your consideration is this antique mission oak bench or footstool. It is made of quartersawn oak and retains it's original finish. It features nicely shaped and cut out end panels with keyed tenons. The top shows remnants of an oilcloth or leatherette seat cover. It is stamped with the number 408 underneath. It measures 18 1/2" long overall. 15" tall and 12" deep. Everything remains in very nice as found condition. There is a tight no harm crack to the one end panel.see photo) This has no structural effect as the stool remains solid and sturdy. There is some minor edgewear and a few random paint splatters, just about what you would expect. Again, overall a very nice example of a stylish arts& crafts piece. Lovely Rustic Antique Footstool Split Cane Oak or Willow Late 19th early 20th Ce
Here is an antique footstool that comes from our old New England homestead which had been a small family farm. The frame may be pine because it is light weight and the woven cane seat may be split oak or perhaps willow. I do not know for sure. The stool is 12 ½” wide. 10” deep and 10” high measured according to the framing. The frame is in excellent condition with no wiggles. The seat portion does have some loss on the edges as you can see in the photos. You may decide to either keep the stool as it is and use it as an accent piece in a country motif or you might even consider getting the split seat repaired. I suggest repaired rather than replaced because so much of the beauty in this stool is in its antique split cane seat. It is a pretty special stool and served our family for many generations. Genuine antique footstool of the mission/ craftsman/ arts& crafts era. Solid oak legs and side pieces with hidden bottom panel of pine or similar soft wood. Chamfered legs and dome-headed nails are distinctly representative of the era. Brown leathercloth surface is cracked but has great patina. Assembly is somewhat crude and there is notable wear to the edges of the oak parts. Great character for such a small piece. Measures 15x11x9 inches.

Leather top Wear to leather Two rings to leather Solid and sturdy, This is an English antique footstool. The frame is made from solid oak and the top is covered in a lovely embossed brown leather. It is a great size to go with any chair and quite comfortable. The craftsman who made this piece meticulously turned the barley twist legs and joined them with an“I” shaped stretcher. A stretcher is necessary on a piece like this as it provides strength to all the legs. The wooden frame is in excellent condition. Covering the top is brown leather with embossing ... moreover the entire surface. Around the perimeter of the top are large hammered brass brads holding the leather to the frame. A raised floral pattern shows on either side of the top which is a beautiful and unusual decoration. The rest of the leather is embossed with tiny circles giving it a real textured look. Throughout the years the leather has sustained some wear. Two slight rings are visible on the top and there are numerous areas of light wear especially around the edges as you can see from the pictures. For this reason we have given this antique footstool a good condition rating instead of excellent. Originally this footstool was made in England sometime around 1940. We purchased it at an estate auction and it has been imported to our antique furniture store in Atlanta. GA. An English antique footstool with leather top. Here is an old primitive. Rustic footstool. The footstool measures approximately 14 L X 11 W X 9 1/2 inches tall. The legs are 1 1/2 inches wide. The seat is woven what appears to be like a paper/cardboard type of material. There is some paint drops and part of the woven material shows a torn or broken part and there is a crack in the wood on the top of the leg, please see photos. This would be a nice accent piece.
