GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Wood Ear Plugs, Moche, Peru | Pre Columbian
This incredibly well preserved set of Pre-Columbian wood ear plugs on which the geometrically decorated is attributed to the Moche horizon of Peru. C.100-800AD. Not wearable today due to the fragile nature of the wood there are certainly few other such pairs that have survived this well. Many wonder how the earrings remained in place when worn. This was easily achieved by wearing attaching a string to both ends of the jewelry and literally tying together back behind the neck. The front flat flares measure about 2.5" outer diameter. The tubular wearing surface is about just slightly thicker than 1inch(about 1 3/16" and overall length with front flare is about 3 7/8" inch. The pair is from the collection of my Grandfather who recently passed away. He was an Anthropologist and former primitive arts collector who has permitted ... moreus to handle a number of the last items from his important and varied collection. In overall good but delicate condition, and a unique addition to a collection of ancient body adornment or one emphasizing perishable materials, the ear plugs feature a carved center piece. Pre Columbian vintage mask handmade Peru, inca God, pottery artifact relic
Great decorative piece made in mid 1900s in Peru by a Peruvian artisan. Likely Inca descendant. Has a loop on back to hang. Last photo is rear side not blotched pic. This is an Inca God. Wonderful copper masks were made by the Incas among other cultures with great intricacy. This has Silver eyes but I am not sure if plated. It's good fun item to add an Incan feeling in a home with Latin decor. Uncommon item and one of a kind handmade. Good pre Columbian artifact replica of mask. It has"Peru" stamped on back of it. Pre-columbian Bead Lot Mayan Inca Aztec Peru Bird Human Effigies Gold ? Turquois
A very interesting collection of beads brought from Peru by a missionary in the early 1950's. I am not sure what age or time period they would be from. The stone beads appear to be from several different materials. The large ones are possibly turquoise or jade. The gold beads and effigies are of stamped metal. It's possible they have some gold content or are gold washed. As they show little signs of tarnish. I counted well over 300 beads total. The strand measures about 15" long. The face effigy measures 0.95" by 1.36" Please view our other auctions being listed over the next few days. We will be dispersing many artifacts from several recent collection acquisitions.
