The top of the canteen is painted black with rayed eyes and the neck has a chevron design. The lugs are intact. Although I regard this as Huari. There is a chance that this is very late Nazca. If you take a look at p 48 of Proulx's book, A Sourcebook of Nazca Iconography, you will find a description of late phase Nazca items that fits the designs and finish on this canteen. Antique(possibly ancient) Chavin Lapis Bead Strand You are bidding on what I believe to be an antique and possible ancient strand of Chavin Sodalite Beads. These beads were bought on eBay years ago as ancient and said to date to 600-100 BC Chavinoid culture(South Peru/ North Chile) but I have no way to prove or disprove this- all I can say is they are very attractive and obviously restrung& hand carved. I took photos on two different backgrounds to try to give a better idea of just how vibrant the blue is! This is the last necklace in my collection; it measures 25" long and weighs 4.87 ounces. It is one of the nicest pieces I have ever owned. These are often listed in antiquities books as'snake' charms. Although given the time and location I strongly suspect they are intended to be Ayahuasca Caapi Vine sculptures. If I am correct in this, this was almost certainly an elite grave item, as the Chavin culture was ruled by shamans. There appears to be an archeological tag number on the bottom. The scribe characters form even lines and circle pattern, only the bottom of the spout and the bottom of the stirrup have no signs. I just pickup from local estate amazing Peruvian Vessel"Dragon" It was sold as a most likely original Chavin. I am not an expert in Precolumbian Art and can't guarantee authenticity. But a I can see a few positive marks to be real antique: definitely Chavin Style; a good looks very real patina; dry ceramic and made using antique ceramic technology; some restoration(the Dragon tale was restored- see picture) But again it is not a professional opinion.
