Approximately 3 3/4" x 2" inches About Mixtec( Wikipedia) The Mixtec/ˈmiːʃtɛk/ Or Mixtecos, are indigenous Mesoamerican peoples inhabiting the region known as La Mixteca which covers parts of the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Puebla. The Mixtec region and the Mixtec peoples are traditionally divided into highland Mixtecs or mixteca alta in northeast Guerrero and western Oaxaca, and ... moreLowland Mixtecs or mixteca baja northwest Oaxaca and southwest Puebla and Coastal Mixtecs inhabiting the pacific slope of southern Oaxaca and Guerrero. The Mixtecan languages form a major branch of the Otomanguean language family. In precolumbian times, a number of Mixtecan city states competed with each other and with the Zapotec kingdoms. The major Mixtec polity was Tututepec which rose to prominence in the 11th century under the leadership of Eight Deer Jaguar Claw- the only Mixtec king to ever unite the Highland and Lowland polities into a single state. Like the rest of the indigenous peoples of Mexico, the Mixtec were conquered by the Spanish invaders and their indigenous allies in the 16th century. Pre-Columbia their numbered 1.5 million Mixtecs.3] Today there are approximately 800,000 Mixtec people in Mexico, and there are also large populations in the United States. Artifacts from Monte Alban Zapotec Mixtec Olmec Pre-Columbian
Hi. I have two great artifacts for auction. These were recovered from the ruins of Monte Alban in Oaxca, Mexico in 1968. They come with notes saying the specific structures they came from. and when. The pottery piece is nice. It has a nice headress and ear spools. The paperwork says it dates to 900-1400 AD. The other head says that it is Olmec and a stone face. It says it's stone, and it looks like stone.I believe it is actually very hard pottery. The paperwork says it dates 1500-272 BC. The Monte Alban and Mitla areas were inhabited my many tribes including the Olmec, Zapotec, and Mixtec. There are old picture slides of the older head. These would make a great addition to any collection. Thanks for looking. I will combine shipping. The half dollar is for size comparison only and is not ncluded in this auction.

Pre-Columbian Mixtec SERPENT HEAD ADORNO :ca:1200-1400 AD
SquareTrade © AP6.0 Here's a nice CLAY(Terracotta) SERPENT HEAD EFFIGY of the MIXTEC CULTURE(ca; 1200-1400 AD) from near the site of the ancient city of Mitla in Mexico's Southern Highlands. It's 1 3/8 in. 3.3cm) long. 1 in. 2.5cm) wide and 1 in. 2.5cm) thick. It's a very nicely modeled effigy featuring scary eyes, well-defined nose and a mouthful of dangerous looking teeth. This was likely a foot from a tripod vessel which may have at one time contained rattle stones. It may have represented the iconic Axtec and Mixtec sacred winged serpent god Quetzalcoatl! It's also possible it represented an alligator. This piece has been part of my personal collection since 1957 when I acquired it on a visit to Mexico. I'm downsizing now to afford my customers some additional opportunities. My Feedback Profile and eBay preferred ... moreseller reputation attest to my integrity.
