Under the tag is what I believe to be an accession number inscribed on the base when this was added to their collection. The mounting is museum quality too. The piece measures 7-1/2 inches in height by 4-1/2 inches in girth. Antique MAYAN Carved Stone Figure AZTEC Carved BLACK STONE FIGURE Deity Effigy
Offered is a Mayan Aztec carved stone deity or effigy measuring approx. 7 inches in height. The figure is carved from a moderately heavy. Yet porous, piece of black stone. The figure is approx. 7 inches high and approx. 3.75 inches wide, at the elbows. The stone measures approx. ¾ to 1& 1/8 inches thick. The back of the carving has been polished to a soft luster, as have the high spots of the relief-carved figure, as shown. There is a light coat of dust over all, especially in the unpolished recessed areas of the carving. I do not know what the stone is. As already mentioned, it is black, though there are a few small areas that have a faint reddish-brown tinge. Condition is good, there being an old, glued repair to a horizontal crack running just above the knees of the figure. I purchased this carved figure in 1986 at an estate auction ... morein Saratoga County, NY. It was found, just as the previous owner had left it, tucked between two layers of cotton inside in an old chocolates box. Pre Columbian Ceramic Warrior Effigy on Wood Stand ~ Terracotta Idol or Figure
Here we have a really neat Pre Columbian ceramic warrior effigy on a wood stand. This small warrior effigy sits 6 1/2" tall on its stand. 3 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" deep. It was crudely made out of terracotta pottery and measures 5 1/4" tall off of the stand. There is a fracture with an old repair where it is inserted onto the pedestal. The base measures 1 3/4" square and on the back is an old information or auction label. This is really neat little effigy figure with a wood pedestal and it make a wonderful addition to any collection. This figure is approximately 3" x 2.75" x 5" and is in good condition with the exception of the chip on the right leg. I am not sure what tribe this is from or what it was actually used for but it seems to have a mouth piece. Pre Columbian Carved Stone Seated Figure Idol Effigy Statue Olmec Mayan Mezcala
This listing is for a Pre Columbian carved stone figure. The stone is relatively soft. And a gray color where the original surface is chipped. The statue stands on its feet, though it is in a seated or hunched position. The front surface is darker than the back. The deeper recesses have a white crystalline residue. The figure stands 5.9" tall, and weighs 27 ounces. Its in good condition save for the lighter color chips and scratches. I am fairly unfamiliar with South American artifacts, and rather than attempt to attribute it, I will let you decide what culture it came from.
