A Rare Pre-Columbian Chinesco Seated Female Figure. Type'D" Lagunillas Style, Nayarit, Protoclassic ca. 100 B.C.A.D. 250, with Finely Painted& Incised Decorations& Adornments. This very finely sculpted hollow ceramic seated figure. With burnished deep red to reddish brown slip against a dark brown buff with fine incising of the hair, adorned with a necklace featuring a medallion and a strip on the backside, a pair of multi-faceted earrings, four armlets, and an incised decorated belt(although nude, womanhood indicated) hands on her hips, all in relief, dates to the Protoclassic Period of the West Mexican Nayarit sculptural tradition and belongs to the Lagunillas Type"D" sub-style(also known as Chinesco Type"D" ca. 100 B.C. to A.D. 250. This seated figure has the heavily-lidded incised eyes of the"coffee ... morebean" style, as well as the un-slipped coiffure contrasting with the burnished overall elegance, the lips slightly parted. The highly stylized legs have remains of black pigment, particularly on the buttocks. This finely sculpted figure is one of an increasingly rare group of the most abstract works of sculpture from ancient West Mexico, which inspired many of the 20th Century Art Masters of both Mexico and Europe. The vent is located on the reverse side of the top of her head. This figure displays a beautiful rich surface, a glossy patina with multiple areas of ancient encrustations. Precolumbian sculpture #80; Oaxaca, Mexico style pre-columbian sculpture, art
1) Precolumbian. Sculpted, ceramic, semi complete figure; most likely 1,000 to 2,000 years old, or more. Complete figures are rare. 2) Dimensions. 3" high; 2.25" wide; 75 inch deep for body. 3) Medium. red clay. Hard fired under great heat with black patina such as is achieved with the Oaxaca method of firing with animal dung- to fuse black carbon to the surface layer of the red clay. 4) Provenance. I collected precolumbian sculpture from 1965 through 1967 in Mexico when I was a teenager and- from 1966 through'67- as an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. I bought this sculpture in a Mexican archaeological zone. When it was legal to do so, and brought it back to the U.S. when it was legal to do so. How to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: a) provinance; know the ... moresource; b) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; c) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. Photos show front. Side, and back of sculpture. Pre Columbian style brass, artifact necklace, brooch flute player, Mayan, incan
A cute piece for the easier budget to get items of Pre Columbian style imagery. This is nay be up to 50-60 years old tops and has a man playing flute motif. The Latin and pre Columbians loved music and rhythms for ceremony and fun. It's hard to go to a South American City and not seeing men playing a variety of flutes. Many flutes were made in pottery and played quite well despite taking the forms of many animals. It is amazing how these artisans could make such non standardized pieces that carried notes. This piece about 2 inches long. Intact clasp and could even be made a pendant. A nice item for a change of pace. On the under surface is printed the phrase"art museum relic" which is likely where this came from. I don't know what culture this represents but I think I have seen it in Inca. Mayan, and Mexican cultures. Please ... moresee pics and feel free to ask questions. See my other Pre Columbian items Inca Treasures LTD

Pre Columbian beads, necklace style with antique clay beads, pottery, artifact
Handsome arrangement of antique native clay beads with a pre Columbian stone pendant. This is another combination of old and new together for a sharp wearable piece. The other spacers and restrung clasps are all new as is the cord. The stones are lovely pastel shades and easy to look at with a simply stated elegance. The colored clay stones are probably North American. About 1-200 years old and the stone is Pre Columbian, but I don't know the culture but likely 500-1000 years old. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian style pottery bowl artifact Terraca Mexico art
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or bowl. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s to early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. ... moreThe other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. Nice piece for collector of pre Columbian pottery or folk art pottery art. A tzompantli or skull rack is a type of wooden rack or palisade documented on several Mesoamerican civilizations. The Aztecs were the last culture before the conquest on using this tzompantlis which were used for piblic displays of human skulls, typicalli those of war captives or other sacrificial victims. There were also the volcanic rock tzompantlis like the one shown here in pictures wich survived the spanish conquest wich this piece is made after. They were then covered on white stucco. This TZOMPANTLI skull was made using the exact Same ... moretechnics as my ancestors made them. The base is a skull sculpture made on Mexican volcanic rock then covered on white stucco, this procces takes two layers and re work to smooth the surface.I included pictures of the real TZOMPANTLI standing in México city, inside what now days is the museum of the Templo Mayor and pictures of another Tzompamtli skull I made with out the white stucco, this skull for sale looked just like the other skull before stucco. Ancient Mezcala Jade Stone Statue Artifact Pre-Columbian Rare Style NR
Hi. I have a very nice Mezcala statue for auction. I own a few different Mezcala figures, and have seen hundreds. This one is different. Most of the Mezcala figures are thicker, this is very thin. It is no more than a quarter inch thick. This statuem was made with an arrowhead drill technique. You can visibly see all the spots all around it where it was hand drilled to cut and scuplt it. This drilling is the same way that they drill out the top of a pendant for suspension. This piece has visible weathering and there is no denying it's age. It dates 200 BC- 200AD. I made the stand to make it more presentable, and it's included. It's a shame that it wasn't recovered with the other leg intact. This came from an old collection. The half dollar is for size comparison only and is not included in this auction. I combine shipping. ... moreThanks for looking.
