3 Pre-Incan Pre-Columbian Artifacts, Chimu Backstrap Loom with Textile, Shawl +
The story of these astonishing 3 artifacts began off of the coast of Peru near the town of Chimbote sometime between 1000 A.D. and 1500 A.D. They are believed to have belonged to a woman from the Chimu Civilization. As they have strong similarities to other Chimu textiles. The Chimu Civilization was the largest civilization to thrive in Peru. Just before the Inca came to power around 1500 A.D. Just as today. Life near Chimbote, called the great City of Chan Chan in the Chimu period, revolved around the sea and trade goods. Fine textiles were prized as status symbols of wealth and power. And traded for goods found only in the interior regions of Peru. Women who excelled at the art of weaving lived in better housing within the City of Chan Chan. And were provided with the best food and care. They made tunics. Loin cloths, and carry bags for ... morethe politicians and elite, and for trade to bring in the best goods for the elite. Other women weavers lived outside of the City. And made clothing and bags for the general population. The woman's tomb containing these artifacts was uncovered deep in the sand near Chimbote in the early 1960's. This ancient woman was discovered with her backstrap loom. And still on the loom was the unfinished textile she was buried with, to finish in the after-life. Her burial shawl was wrapped around her head. Face and upper body. The part of the shawl here is the top piece that covered her face and hair. The smallest textile artifact is believed to be the remnants of a shoulder strap to a purse that carried her necessities to the afterlife. The tight weave of these textiles is astounding. This marvelous head was most probably placed over a second figure and worn as a"helmet" or a mask. This approach occurs on many Vera Cruz and Mayan pieces. Often associated with warriors or ball game figures. My guess is that this piece is most likely Vera Cruz. As noted, it is complete in itself and retains traces of both white and red pigment. One small apparent loss to the headband/headdress. The piece measures just over 2-1/2" in height. Shipping and handling in the US is $15; overseas will vary. Pre-Colombian(Chimu) Authenticated and appraised cat and owl pieces
These pieces were originally given to my great uncle in the 60's by the excavation team that dug it up for his help with the dig. Both pieces were appraised recently here in Los Angeles by Ronald W. Damman from Stendahl Galleries. Their combined value is appraised at $2400. But we are willing to take $1800 for them.

Pre Columbian Chimu erotic vessel, pottery, artifact, relic, antique, pot, art
Pre Columbian black ware piece with very acceptable erotica for collectors and viewers. Like many early cultures the Chimus were unabashed in displaying sexuality in their art. There are name examples and can be both very explicit and/ or grossly distorted images. This piece features a re long couple. Thr man seems to want to keep his hat on.but not his boots. Well carved but there are expected surface scratching and a few splotches that do not detract. A nice change up for collectors. Culture: Chimu. Agriculture and fishing were very important activities. The Chimus worshipped the Moon. They view the Sun as a destroyer, possibly because of the harshness of the sun in their desert environment. Their ceramics were usually stained black, although there were variations. Lighter ceramics were not common, but were produced ... morein smaller quantities. The highlight of this necklace is the figural pendant that tellingly features turquoise eyes and a turquoise pectoral mirror. Scholarly research has shown that Pre-Columbian cultures wore jewelry to demonstrate rank and social order. According to one ancient chronicler“ everything is strictly regulated according to a hierarchical order: only the emperor can wear turquoise in his nose. While not a nose ornament, the inclusion of turquoise in t his piece points to signification of elite status of the figure being represented and perhaps the wearer. Mirrors in Mesoamerican culture were believed to serve as portals to a realm with which one could not interact. ... moreFashioned from stone, mirrors in Pre-Columbian times served a range of uses from decorative to divinatory– metaphors for sacred caves, conduits for supernatural forces, fiery hearths, and the list goes on. Mirrors were frequently worn as pectorals on the chest, a practice that stems back to Olmecs. For instance at Tomb A at La Venta dating back to 600 bce, a seated female donning an obsidian mirror on her chest was recovered. 30"L, 32-3/4"L with pendant and suspension for pendant Ex-Virginia Gamba Collection Authenticity Guaranteed. Pre-Inca Pottery Chimu Lamballeque Period 1000-1500 AD Auction
Pre-Inca Pottery Chimu Lamballeque Period 1000-1500 AD Auction I am selling a portion of my family collection that has been in our family for well over 45 years. Due to downsizing and not having the storage room any longer I would rather others enjoy these unique pieces of old pottery. They have been stored in glass display cases for most of their time while in my care. They all come from a non smoking environment and great care will be taken in their packing. Double boxed for extra cushioning and excess bubble wrap. These were all aquired by my family while travelling and living in Peru and Bolivia. All the items were aquired from various sources and were verified by a local museum curator at the time. None have documents and providing carbon dating documentation even the most elaborate museums cannot afford. Consequently, Spanish chroniclers were able to record accounts of Chimú culture from individuals who had lived before the Inca conquest. Similarly, Archaeological evidence suggest Chimor grew out of the remnants of Moche culture; early Chimú pottery had some resemblance to that of the Moche. Their ceramics are all black, and their wor

Today I present to you this highly collectible and unique Pre-Columbian Chimu Peruvian Blackware Ceremonial Figural Puffer Fish Vessel ca. 850-1470 AD. This Chimu blackware ceremonial figural vessel came out of an old historic estate in San Antonio. Texas. A recent valuation was done on the Chimu ceremonial vessel by an expert valuer of ancient Peruvian artifacts. Please see his summary valuation below: Description Attributed to the mature Chimu civilization before the metallurgy period. The vessel is indeed that of a puffer fish ceremonial vessel and the condition does show extensive ... moreloss of the blackware effect. Showing the red clay body. Chimu pottery reflects the symbolic and iconographic representations involving the people's relationship with the sea, such as fish, clam shells, waves and sea birds. The majority of Peruvian pottery is black, characterized by a distinctive metallic black-grey look. It is estimated that 95% of such pottery was produced within the Chimu culture during its dominance along the north coast of Peru(circa 850- 1470 A.D. Also there was less mass production in the Peruvian highlands. The fish vessel was made for an offering at burials. Chimu ceremonial blackware vessels do come up at auction and retail frequently. And also in many art galleries across the country. The most highly valued Chimu pottery is that of the very early Chimu culture(not blackware) Your figure is of a later date and not considered entirely Pre-Columbian. The figure is not as elaborate as some late Chimu burial vessels, and this does affect the value as well as its condition. Insurance value: $2000.00. Date: Circa 850- 1470 A.D. As mentioned in the valuation. The Chimu people(AD 850-1470) of Peru produced distinctive blackware pottery out of red

Large pre columbian Chimu Llama Victim Stirrup vessel with T.L. test Document!!!
Great pottery of the Chimu culture in the form of a reclining llama victim; and good to see is the sign of the female llama by the butt. Who knows the importance of this animal knows why like llama ceramics were taken in another life. At this ceramic impressed me the fine workmanship of the details. You can even see the fine hooves and the great nose. There were probably some people no difference in value because of the makers of these ceramics, the female Llama has even put on a kind of throne, or is it a sacrificial stone? At the sink sits a small monkey. The stirrup was broken and is replaced, otherwise very nice. A beautiful illustration of probably the only and most valuable domestic animal of the Andean cultures.
