GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. Pre-Columbian Black Chimu Bottle VESSEL Peru Pottery Vase Maize Goddess; Inca
Pre-Columbian Black Chimu Bottle VESSEL Peru Pottery Vase Maize Goddess; Inca Description. Vintage Peruvian pottery vessel. A black figural Chimu/Inca bottle with short neck and fluted rim, in the form of a three-dimensional Maize Goddess, warrior, Diety. It stands only 7-3/8" inches high(approx. 19 cm) measures 4" inches[10.16 cm] wide, and 2.5" in. 6.35 cm] deep. There is something strange about it. Which is different from anything else I've found: The base of the piece has thick white paint, which has some kind of'seal' stamped in blue ink. I cannot figure out what the seal reads! Also, hand-written is"Sp. 3" IMITACION MODERNA" and dated 23/2/56(1956) From Northern Peru. I've often wondered if someone may have painted this mark onto an actual ancient artifact. It looks very old to me. B ut ... moreI must go by what the mark says on the bottom. Weighs 12.9 oz. BEFORE packing. In excellent condition with a small rim chip. Pre Columbian Chimu terracotta monkey-fun erotica from Peru artifact vessel sex
This is an unique piece of Chimu terracotta Pre Columbian artifact erotica of monkeys having a bit of fun"People style" An unusual positioning for monkeys but it didn't matter the piece came out ok. An unusual piece with good composition with animals though I am not sure I have seen this position from monkeys in the zoo. I obtained it from a collector. I had it appraised at Artemis Gallery and it is authentic. It is the largest of several I have and in nice condition. There is a small hole at the side bottom that looks like some type of erosion but doesn't detract from the piece. A really nice piece inoffensive erotica. Culture: Chimu. Peru. Pre-Columbian HEAD Vessel Moche PERU Dig Guaranteed Authentic approx. 700 AD
Pre-Columbian HEAD Vessel Moche PERU Dig Guaranteed Authentic approx. 700 AD Recently I was able to obtain several pieces of authentic pre-Columbian pottery and artifacts from ancient civilizations including the Mayan. Incan, Nazca, Aztec, and Central American cultures, all from one individual’s upscale collection. Up for auction is this very cool Vessel. It is a fat rotund HEAD Vessel attributed to the Moche Civilization during the late classic period. 700AD-850AD. It came from a pre WWII dig and has been off the market until now. The piece shows a head at the top in a very strange expression. Almost like he is in pain. He has a very flat head and piercing eyes his mouth is either smirking or showing stress. His ears pop out the sides of his head. There is a tiny hole in the neck and it looks like a tracheotomy to me, maybe that’s why he ... moreis in pain? In his belly is a wide mouth to fill the vessel with water or blood or whatever this was used for. The front is all red and the reverse seems white, but it could just be the dirt that has adhered to the surface causing the whitish look. The piece is bulbous and measures 9” TALL and is about 7” at its widest. It is unusually lightweight and the walls are thin. The vessel is delicate. The bottom is shaped like a football and it is not meant to stand upright. There are surface stains and some very minor surface spotting. This is an extremely old piece and quite interesting and BIG piece. The dating. Attribution of culture and historical references came from meticulous research from the original collector via a very reputable auction house in St Augustine Florida.
