A brown terracotta bat effigy ceremonial vessel from the Tairona culture of Columbia S.A. Ca. 1000- 1400 AD. The vessel that has as its' central motif the bust of a bat, snake heads protrude from each side. A portion of the rear bowl missing, chip to the lower lip of the bats' head, and one ear missing. Burial debris in most of the crevices, archeological excavation number written in black on the bottom. 2-7/8" 7.4cm) tall, 4" 10.2cm) wide, and 2-1/4" 5.7cm) front to back. Ancient Mayan 3 Effigy Clay Ceremonial Vessel - Meso-American
This 7" clay Meso-American ceremonial vessel depicts 3 joined effigies and is believed to be of Mayan origin. Interesting subject matter consists of 3 figures covering their eyes. Ears and mouth- the cultural significance of which is unknown to me. This is an authentic, ancient artifact which has had the base part of the vessel broken off over the ages and that base has been reconstructed with newer clay. There have also been other small, original clay pieces broken off and re-glued. Good overall condition for an authentic clay artifact which has been restored. See photos. This is a great piece of rare Chimu art with two birds looking over their shoulder. There appears to be a tiny monkey sitting against the spout. Authentic piece of Pre Columbian pottery vessel with unusual form. Good condition with the usual surface scratches. There is a small 1 inch chip or crack behind one bird' swing but not full thickness. The black ware seems enhanced by a brownish tint in places on the glaze. Great collectors item from Peru. This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. The slight turn at the top of the spout places it in the Moche II Period. Body markings are meticulously hand painted in cream on red ground. The llama carries a pack bag or water bag given the bulbous plug on one end that's slung over its back. Its head is strongly modeled with deep set eyes, perky ears, and flaring nostrils. Pre Columbian Aztec maybe.Sorry not great on kind of Relics.part of a few Artifacts I picked up in a storage unit some time ago.He looks very cool about 7" long and 5: wide and has a few nicks in the clay and if you look close the clay is a pinkish color if that helps.Has a Nick on his ear and on mouth and on top of nose. And maybe some very tiny ones but overall he looks good with no other damage, no cracks.Not sure what he;s worth with the damage but will start at a great price.I have a few other pieces I am parting with(Tax Time) soo check em out. Large Pre-Columbian TAIRONA CHIEFTANS CEREMONIAL FIGURAL EFFIGY VESSEL 2 Heads
For your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is an exquisite and HIGHLY BURNISHED Pre-Colombian Figural CEREMONIAL VESSEL from the Tairona culture which was in the Northern part of Magdalena in the Region of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. This object was CONSIDERD TO BE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT POSSESSIONS of this culture. The Vase is an ovoid shaped vessel with the Anthropomorphic figure of a man on each side. This highly decorated type of vessel was used in Ceremonies and held the fermenting Corn liquid which was very alcoholic in nature. The Corn/ Liquid were poured into the large opening and the Ceremonial Participants would share drinking of the mixture from the smaller. Spouted end. Each figure appears to be wearing elaborated beaded necklaces. The Vessel measures@ 10 1/4" tall x 13" x 9 1/2" Shipping weight estimate ... moreis 6-7 ponds. Looks to have been professionally and expertly repaired some time ago as there is a crack with some tiny glue remnants visible around the base where it affixes to the bowl area. So well done.
