PRE-COLUMBIAN TRIGONOLITHE ZEMI TAINO STONE THREE POINTER TRIGONOLITO Country: Dominican Republic(Hispaniola) Culture: Taino Period: 1000- 1400 A.D. Dimensions: ... more7-1/2" L x 3" W x 6" H(19 x 7.7 x 15.2 cm) Weight: 5 lbs. 5 oz. 2 kg. 406 gm. Description: A Taino Zemi Three pointer made of Diorite stone. The trigonolithe has the classic three points with an anthropomorphic face on one side with bent arms underneath and incised design on sides and on the reverse side. Provenance: Ex. Smith collection; presently private collection. New York, N.Y. Taino culture flourished in the Caribbean between c.1200-1500. The arrival of the Spanish in 1492 resulted in its rapid decline but objects such as this striking trigonolitos. Also known as a three-pointer, testify to high levels of craftsmanship. The Taino left no written language so our knowledge about them derives solely from archaeology and the testimonials of the Spanish settlers. As a result, although significant numbers of three-pointers survive, their precise function within Taino society is unclear. The central cone of these triangular objects has been interpreted in a variety of ways. Suggestions include manioc shoots(one of the main crops of the Taino) volcanoes, the roofs of Taino houses, phalluses and the human breast. None of these theories has been universally accepted and the precise origins of the shape are likely to remain a mystery. Despite this many scholars agree that these ceremonial objects were symbols of power and fertility. This seems to be supported by a letter written by Columbus in which he reports on his findings among the Taino, Equally the majority of caciques(chiefs) have three stones to which they and their people have great devotion. One they say is for the fertility of the grain and vegetables that they grow; the next for mothers to give birth without pain, and the third for the water and sun when they have need. Three-pointers were made in various sizes and have a long history that predates the Taino fluorescence. Small examp

PRE COLUMBIAN MOCHE LAMINATED TUMBAGA GOLD FUNERARY MASK 100 B.C. - 300 A.D.
Pre-Columbian Moche Laminated Tumbaga Gold Mask in the form of a Owl Head Lambayeque Valley Peru Circa 100 B.C. to 300 A.D. Description: A very important Moche Gold mask. Representing an Owl Head. This gilted laminated tumbaga gold mask showing a very accurate image image of an owl. Our Pre-Columbian Gold Funerary Mask is from the Moche culture. Lambayeque Valley Peru. Catalogue Notes: From the North Coast of Peru. Owls were an important religious animal, able to see into the dark and into the afterlife. Only King's and religious figures of high status wore such adornments. Pre-Colombian artisans excelled in metalwork; gold. Silver and copper funerary masks plundered from ancient tombs give witness to their skill and taste. T he quality is so high that the image could have been pressed in and hammered over leather molds. Moche was a powerful ... moreancient state on the north coast of present-day Peru. Reference: Gold& Tumbaga Gold Pre-Columbian gold has always been classified by the gold content. 80% or more gold in a piece is classified as pure gold. 60-80% as fine gold. 40-60% as poor gold. And. Under 40% gold in a piece as Tumbaga. Tumbaga was the name given by Spaniards to a non-specific alloy of gold and copper which they found in widespread use in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Tumbaga is an alloy comprised mostly of gold and copper. It has a significantly lower melting point than gold or copper alone. It is harder than copper. But maintains malleability after being pounded. Tumbaga can be treated with a simple acid, like citric acid, to dissolve copper off the surface. What remains is a shiny layer of 23-karat gold on top of a harder, more durable copper-gold alloy sheet. Use In The Americas Tumbaga was widely used by the Pre-Columbian cultures of central America to make religious objects. Like most gold alloys. Tumbaga was versatile and could be cast, drawn, hammered, gilded, soldered, welded, plated, hardened, annealed, polished, engraved, embossed, and inlaid. The proportion of gold to copper in artifacts
PRE-COLUMBIAN MAYAN PENDANT. WRAPPED IN GOLD. THE REAL DEAL!
This is a pendant made from a large ancient Mayan(Olmec) green stone bead. The photo doesn't catch the colors very well. It is about 3/4 in. in diameter and about 1/2 in. thick. I had my jeweler wrap i n gold wire. Then. I suspended it from a fine rolled leather cord. The cord fit up to a 16 in. neck easily. So it is unisex. A gold chain will work for this, too. Really nice. This is a genuine antiquity and not a piece of tourist trash. It's the Real Deal from my personal collection. US sales only. No sales to bidders with private feedback.

Pre-columbian Bead Lot Mayan Inca Aztec Peru Bird Human Effigies Gold ? Turquois
A very interesting collection of beads brought from Peru by a missionary in the early 1950's. I am not sure what age or time period they would be from. The stone beads appear to be from several different materials. The large ones are possibly turquoise or jade. The gold beads and effigies are of stamped metal. It's possible they have some gold content or are gold washed. As they show little signs of tarnish. I counted well over 300 beads total. The strand measures about 15" long. The face effigy measures 0.95" by 1.36" Please view our other auctions being listed over the next few days. We will be dispersing many artifacts from several recent collection acquisitions. Ancient Bead Necklace With 14k Yellow Gold Spacer Beads - Pre Columbian (?)
For your consideration. A necklace of green and brick red colored stones and gold spacer beads. The necklace has an avian idol in the center and is about 16 inches long. I do not have authentication for it but it is a piece that was made by my father who had a collection of precious and semi precious beads as well as pre Columbian beads. I believe these beads are carnelian and jadeite and the center bead is also Pre Columbian. The clasp is stamped 14k and I did my best to capture the stamp in the pictures; however the stamp is very small. The spacer beads are not magnetic. The necklace was my Mother's and she rarely wore it. She usually carefully stored it in her jewelry box. Items come from a smoke free home and are kept in a pet free part of the house. Solid Gold Chavin Ear Rings Ancient Artifacts Pre-Columbian Peru NR
Hi. I have a pair of solid gold Chavin earrings for auction. These ancient artifacts are from the Chavin culture of Peru. These awesome rare gold artifacts come in a felt lined wood case. The tag on the display says Chavin 1,000 years. The tag is wrong. The Chavin culture was mainly from 900 BC- 100 AD, making this 2,000 years old. Either way, these are incredible. They are solid stamped gold. They are very fragile. they display nicely, but they really should have a professional restoration because of the quality of the artifacts, and being gold. These gold earrings are guaranteed ancient. These gold artifacts would be a great addition to any collection. I combine shipping. Thanks for looking. `4`.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Feog4d71f%2B%3E%604%60-14b91acfc74-0x10a-

Quimbaya Solid Gold Poporo Top Ex-Gallery Pre-Columbian Ancient Artifact 24K NR
Hi. I have a very rare solid 24kt gold Quibaya Poporo top for auction. Yhis is a genuine pre-columbian gold artifact of the Quimbaya culture of Columbia. circa 800-1000 AD. Made of relatively pure gold. In a worked sheet, it is the top to a"Poporo" or lime container, the manufacture of which was virtually exclusive to the Quimbaya. It has some tears, but it is quie rare. This came from Arte Primitvo Gallery- Howard Rose gallery New York. It was authenticated by Robert Caldwell in 2007. This report will be included in the auction. I use a half dollar for size comparison only and it is not included in this auction. I can combine shipping. Thanks for looking.
