A wonderful. Vibrant, published and exhibited ancient Peruvian Nazca Earthenware vase, in the form of a decapitated trophy head, dating to approximately 125- 250 A.D. The vase with rounded base and globular body. Cylindrical neck and wide everted mouth. Skillfully molded and vividly decorated with the depiction of a decapitated trophy head. The ears and long, straight nose protruding from the pot, the head itself shown with closed eyes and long eyelashes, the mouth painted white and filled with black dots, the lips held shut with long black pins and the cheeks decorated with red face paint. This is an adorable polychrome pottery vessel with two small lizards perched on top. Looking at you. It is from the Huari/Nazca region of Peru. Very good condition with good paint and glaze. It has smoke clouds in the glaze likely from the uneven firing. Also manganese deposits and some root markings inside. Good earthy smell when wetted inside. This is a really nice Nazca culture kero. Or vase vessel with rounded bottom. Slight concave body with slight flare to rim It has alligator head designs and almost appears the design is circle being held up by painted legs. Nazcas lived in Southern Peru coast long before Incas arrived. A polychrome piece with great vibrance and good glaze. Stable crack repaired inside and a frpew areas where paint wearing. It is polychrome with a white base with orange and red designs all around. Outlined with black coloring. The adornments are very ornate and quite stunning.
