The tumi has symbolic and practical meaning for Incas and indigenous population in Peru. It was used in rituals, sacrifice, in surgery and any number of cutting tasks. Usually made of bronze or stone it was also produced in pounded flat copper tumi replicas for currency, or as collectibles. They have now become very popular as a collectors item of Pre Columbian Peruvian artifacts and reminders of ritual usage in ceremonies and inca sacrifices of llamas, but also children and their enemies. This wooden one would be an in home decor. ... moreMost tumis had decorative figures on the handle end opposite the curved relic blade. There are inlaid mirrors, and green semiprecious stones for eyes but I am not sure what material. One arm was broken and repaired and the seam can be seen on the reverse. Loop to hang with. A very classic icon for Latin home decor. CA about 1940- 1950s. Culture: Peru, indigenous descendants of Inca. 30 inches tall, 10 inches wide, about an inch thick. A dramatic piece. Pre Columbian Mayan pottery rattle, ritual, artifact, relic art COA
Really cute rare authentic Pre Columbian Mayan pottery artifact ceremonial or ritual rattle. Stand goes with it. This Mayan piece is nicely proportioned and a cute artistic artifact. Pre Columbian cultures often used music with strings. Flutes, rattles, and rattle vessels in rituals and ceremonies and the Mayans too. I am not sure if the rattles might also be placed in tombs to scare away bad spirits. They would be shaken for sound. There are lots of Pre Columbian pottery flutes around but not many of these rattles. Some minor surface scratching on pottery with some white spots. Purchased from Artemis Gallery. Dealers in ancient and pre Columbian art, and COA available on request. Great piece for conversation and it works. I am sure not meant as baby rattle but more as later maracas for rhythmic music or to ward off spirits in ceremonies ... moreor in burials. Ht. 5 inches. Width is 1 inch. A little guy but unusual and will enhance a collection. Culture Mayan CA 500 AD Provenance Artemis Gallery dealer in antiquities and having an auction coming in March. Rare Chancay artifact of a woman on death rattle ceremonial piece. From central Costa Rican culture and used in death rituals. It rattles when shaken. Good paint and comes with its own stand. Authentic piece comes with COA if requested. I bought this from Artemis Gallery who sell and deal in antiquities. Authentic item. It's something I have not seen before. This is a beautiful. Thick Cochle pottery dish with great colors and I believe a serpent motif coiled in the center. It has designs surrounding the rim as well. I purchased this from Arte Xibalba experts in Pre Columbian artifacts and selling lovely, unusual artifacts. You don't get to see Panama cultures often but they do have some great pieces and I think this is one. It is amazingly thick for a plate which adds to stability. It comes with a COA. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. Very interesting Pre Columbian pottery vessel art with serpentine legs and serpent faces rimming the top of the vessel though the faces almost look simian. Pre Columbian reproduction Muisca double jar pottery artifact Art vessel
This interesting piece is a Pre Columbian reproduction of a Muisica double jar effigy vessel complete with aging appearance including manganese deposits. It is a fairly large item. Solid and rather heavy. The color and markings are intense making it a great show piece. I purchased this and a few others that are made by modern artists doing Pre Columbian style vessels. This even has mineral deposits scattered over it. I like a few of these from the artistic standpoint and I can get nice Pre Columbian decor for much less than original that are artistically done. I have priced it as a reproduction well done. The Muiscas were a more loosely organized confederation of peoples than say. The Incas, Aztecs, or Mayans with pottery starting about 1500 BC. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian style pottery bowl artifact Terraca Mexico art
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or bowl. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s to early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. ... moreThe other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Terraca Moche Skull Bottle artifact vessel art COA
A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. It has sunken eyes and teeth in mouth with a cranial protrusion representing the head of a dead person that may return from the dead. It has a stirrup type handle with spout and a very bizarre countenance but it is most interesting even if eerie. Painted with black outlines on lips and striped and triangular designs on forehead. Ears done in white. I don't know the meaning of the lump on the forehead but maybe the poor fellow was hit with a club. He seems happy enough. A really ingtriuing piece for the collector. SALE Pre Columbian Mayan Olla vessel terracota pottery artifact art
Sale item. Reducing my collection. This is a nice Pre Columbian Mayan olla vessel with really interesting surface patina. Nice for the beginning collector with lower budget but with lots of interesting features. It has manganese deposits from burial. The uneven fading patterns of paint and glaze leaves traces of paint showing even with some red coloring. On the bottom it has some lines still penetrating through of the original design work and from side it appears there are columns of color left over. I like this piece mostly because of its patina and old look and still in good shape though much paint has faded. A good conversation piece and priced for the lower budget. Culture: Mayan. Pre Columbian Inca terracota working ocarina flute artifact art antiquity
This is a really cute Pre Columbian Inca ocarina that has excellent tones for those willing to play. This Pre Columbian pottery antiquity is in good shape with a few markings on back that appear to have been made at the time the piece was fashioned. I have had one opinion it may be a little later than the Incas like a Colonial piece made around 1700s but I have no COA to really cement the time. In any event it is an old piece and authentic from an artisan years ago. I am guessing between 1450AD and 1750AD. After Spaniards came as pottery terracotta items were still being made throughout this time as well. Not a modern reproduction. A really cute piece for the collector. Priced to account for the possibility it may be a Colonial era piece. Still it is cute and appears to have either black clouding or possibly some deposits on the back. The ... morecrease on rear below the head is not a crack but part of the carving. Culture: Inca. Peru. CA: 1450-1750AD. Size: 5 inches high and good notes. RARE Pre Columbian Vera Cruz dying Deity terracotta artifact art pottery COA
This is a rare and very unusual figural effigy of a Pre Columbian terracotta. Pottery dying deity figure lying on a bed with a blanket. It has also been described as a sleeping deity. In any event it is a real eye grabber. Figure much more realism based than a lot of Pre Columbian art complete with open mouth and teeth. Figure lying supine with legs up and either dying or sleeping. Head has holes through it but I don't know the meaning of this. He is not demanding and will not ask much attention. Pre Columbian Chimu terracota erotic recreation artifact art Peru
This piece is a black ware piece of Chimu terracota Pre Columbian erotic art found often especially in Chimu and Inca cultures among others. While not a huge piece it is clearly explicit and demand can vary depending on your tastes. It was sold to me with a group of authentic erotica pieces. I am not certain of this one so I am selling it as a reproduction. If its authentic its worth considerably more.
