Pre-Columbian Hand Crafted Clay Jar-Very Old, Costa Rica?
Pre-Columbian Hand Crafted Clay Jar This came from Dad's Collection. The jar is 3 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. There is a small chip on the body that is clearly shown in the pictures. Dad had a note tag with it that said over 1000 years old. I took it to a local auction gallery appraiser who shared it was likely a Nicoya Jar from Costa Rica. My own research found nearly identical listings that were Nicoya Circa 500-800 AD. I am not an expert and I have taken numerous high definition pictures so you can be the expert. Pre Columbian Museum Reproduction Inca Terra Cotta Jar
Up for auction is a reproduction of a Pre Columbian Jar. I think it is Inca design but I am not sure. It measures 5 inches high and about 5 1/2 inches wide. The jar is in excellent condition and would make a nice decoration for someone interested in the art of the Americas.
Pre Columbian reproduction Muisca double jar pottery artifact Art vessel
This interesting piece is a Pre Columbian reproduction of a Muisica double jar effigy vessel complete with aging appearance including manganese deposits. It is a fairly large item. Solid and rather heavy. The color and markings are intense making it a great show piece. I purchased this and a few others that are made by modern artists doing Pre Columbian style vessels. This even has mineral deposits scattered over it. I like a few of these from the artistic standpoint and I can get nice Pre Columbian decor for much less than original that are artistically done. I have priced it as a reproduction well done. The Muiscas were a more loosely organized confederation of peoples than say. The Incas, Aztecs, or Mayans with pottery starting about 1500 BC. It is quite an exquisite piece to hold in hand having been quite expertly crafted into shape with 5 various ribs running vertically on the sides. Stirrup spout handle protrudes from the back of this orange-ware vessel. Incised raised features. Tan slip on body and reddish/brown slip on figures and handle. A very elegant and unique piece of ancient pottery. Size: 7-3/4" Tall and 4-1/2" at its widest. Culture: Moche. Peru Circa: 100AD-700AD Some very slight surface wear and paint loss as to be expected of pieces this old. Small stress crack on face of large figure(see picture#5) Complete and in great museum condition. This displays really well. And some information found on the Long Island University Museum site: Stirrup Spout Vessels were the predominant ceramic form throughout the Pre-Columbian Peruvian region ... morefrom the earliest cultures beginning around 1000 BCE until the conquest of the Inca in the 15th century. Stirrup spout vessels comprise an enormous array of styles and designs but have the common characteristic of a stirrup. Or handle, and a spout. The handle, placed on top of a variety of bases that range from the simplest globular shape to elaborate portraits, could be vertical or horizontal. The spout(or spouts) were either attached to the handle or placed just behind it. They were both hand made and mould-made. Some were elaborately crafted, others were mass-produced. The vast majority of extant stirrup spout vessels have been found in burial sites scattered throughout the Andes. Scholars believe that some vessels were used only for burial purposes, while others were used for rituals and ceremonies. Still others, as indicated by the wear and tear are believed to have utilitarian purposes such as for carrying water or other liquids. I will be charging insurance at the shipping center for this piece. Based upon final pricing. This amount will be told to you upon winning bid.

The body of the ball-shaped vessel is decorated with negative geometric designs using wax resist. The small frog is nicely sculpted in a stylized. But detailed and lively manner. The wax resist‘bulls eyes’ are placed evenly around the side of the jar, between the amphibian’s legs to good effect. There is a tiny shallow chip to the ... moresurface. Just below the frog’s left front foot. This depression seems to have a tiny gold or pyrite piece in it, either an inclusion in the clay, or a piece used to fill the hole. A very nice example of Narino ceramics. AGE: Circa 800 AD- 1500 AD. Pre Spanish Colonial. Pre-Inca. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: No losses or restoration noted. Overall wear to the wax resist designs. Light, hard soil encrustations in crevices and surfaces. darkened and glossy overall patina from age and handling. Gold or pyrite inclusion as mentioned above.
