Colima Dog This is a wonderful Colima figural dog vessel. As found in a local estate and believed to be an ancient piece from Western Mexico, approximately ... moretwo thousand years old. The dog is fat- or pregnant- with a hollow body in aggressive stance with tail that forms a spout. The dog's eyes and mouth are incised into the clay. Dog effigies such as this were buried in tombs in the belief that dogs were an important guide into the afterlife of the deceased. Both of the dog's ears are chipped; one with minor loss. The other more significantly. Two legs have been re-glued; the repairs are rough and amateur, and the break lines appear to have had some loss and are not well-aligned. The burnished reddish brown exterior is mottled and veined. And the interior is encrusted with mineral sediment. The dog came to me without information on its history or provenance. But shows many indications of its age. It's a fascinating piece that is sure to complement any collection. Two legs repaired somewhat roughly. One ear is broken. The other is chipped. Other expected wear. Burnished exterior, rough interior with sediment deposits. 9 3/8" long. 6" high, 5" across[ p e n c i l p o i n t e r Shipping? FREE via USPS Priority International Shipping? COLIMA, Mexico Pre Columbian Pottery Male Figure with Skin Lesions 400-800 A. D.
This is a primitive piece of pottery made in Colima. Mexico circa 400-800 A.D. It is mounted on a wooden pedestal that gives the information about the piece and the back is an advertisement for Valisone Cream. This looks prehistoric and I believe it to be an authentic piece. The ad had me concerned, but the owner of this piece is a retired Archaeologist, so I now feel comfortable again calling this pottery piece an authentic primitive piece from Colima, Mexico. It measures 2.75" x 4.5" and is in great condition. See pictures for details and please contact me with any questions. 1150 14th#18

I bought this sculpture ... morefrom a source I trusted who I met in the home of my friend Kurt Stavenhagen in Mexico City in 1966 or 1967 when I was an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas. Kurt Stavenhagen was a Wikipedia-worthy collector of Precolumbian sculpture to whom I was introduced by Ferdinand Anton- a German anthropologist and photographer who filmed my family exploring Maya ruins in 1964 for a movie he made for Time/ Life and German television which compared modern art. Such as Picasso and Henry Moore, with ancient art like the Maya. I also studied how to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: 1) provenance; know the source; 2) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; 3) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. 5) Price. $2.799. Pair of Pre-Columbian Colima Black & Red Vessels, Ancient West Mexico
An attractive pair of vessels from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. likely attributed to the ancient Colima culture of West Mexico. The form of the body of each vessel features a squared bottom lobe, topped by a rounded neck on the larger jar, with each having a flared rim. These display nicely as a pair. Condition: Intact and in original as-found condition. With minor chipping, abrasions weathering and wear. Otherwise, rootmarks, sediment and mineral deposits indicative of an ancient piece. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. Personally collected by Langdon in West Mexico between the 1940's- 1960's.
Large Pre-Columbian Colima Zoomorphic Incense Cover, Ancient West Mexico
A rare and fascinating zoomorphic incense cover from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. likely attributed to the ancient Colima culture of West Mexico. This piece measures impressively at approximately 10" long by about 7 1/2" wide and about 6" tall. The form of the piece is complex. The handle appears to have been formed to represent the arched or undulating body of a lizard or snake, resting atop the dome-like body of the cover. The cover body features multiple rib-like ridges, perhaps meant to imply that the zoomorph is sitting atop a desert mound(with the ridges perhaps representing an eroded and blown sand landscape) Three feet on the bottom of the dome allow for this to function as a cover over a burnt offering(possibly copal incense) ensuring sufficient air can keep the substance smoldering, while the ... moredome-like lid allows for the area to retain heat sufficient to keep burning. Vessels of this type are well-documented in archaeological finds from this region, attributed to this function. Condition: Body is intact. With a repair at the neck of the head(with restoration over the break) and loss of the tail. Otherwise minor chipping, abrasions weathering and wear. Sediment and mineral deposits remain, indicative of an ancient piece. The underside exhibits staining from the burning of incense beneath this cover. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. Personally collected by Langdon in West Mexico between the 1940's- 1960's.
Pre-Columbian Colima Orangeware Olla, Ancient West Mexico
An attractive small orangeware olla from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. This piece measures about 3 1/2" wide by about 2 3/4" tall, and is likely attributed to the ancient Colima culture of West Mexico. The body features knob-like protrusions around the center of the exterior, and exhibits a lovely form. Condition: Intact and in original as-found condition. With minor chipping, abrasions weathering and wear. There is about a 3/4" long trowel or shovel impact loss line on the bottom of one side, with stable stress lines extending from that point of contact. Otherwise, sediment and mineral deposits indicative of an ancient piece. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. Personally collected by Langdon in West Mexico between the 1940's- 1960's.

This is one of MANY important auction this week! Each approximately 3" inches length About Colima( Wikipedia) The state was home to a number of pre-Hispanic cultures as part of Western Mexico. Archeological evidence dates human occupation of the area as far back as 1500 BCE. With sites here contemporary with San Lorenzo on the Gulf Coast and Tlatilco in the Valley of Mexico. One period of the area’s development is called the Los Ortices era, which began around 500 BCE. During this time the elements that characterize the pre-Hispanic ... morepeoples of Colima appear, including shaft tombs and a distinctive ceramic style called rojo bruñido, or burnished red. The next phase. Called Comala and centered on a site of the same name, was from around 100 to 600 CE. Comala people perfected burnished red pottery and created representations of people and animals with skill and fluid lines. The best known of these figures are known as the fattened dogs. The Comala site shows influence from Teotihuacan. Around 500 CE, another site in Armería developed along the river of the same name. The Chanal site was active from the 6th to the 15th centuries and was the main culture for the Colima area. Belonging to this culture was a number of smaller sites and most of the ones known and explored to date. After Chanal the largest related site is La Campana but most contain pyramidal bases and plazas with structures often containing rounded edges. Images of Huehueteotl and Tlaloc appear with this culture. Which may indicate the origins of the cultures that ultimately settled central Mexico. There is one other site called Periquillo. Which indicates one late migration into Colimas around the 10th century from the north. At

Colima Bed Figure Pottery Ancient Artifact Pre-Columbian Mexico Mayan NR
Hi. I have an awesome Colima Bed Figure for auction. This authentic ancient artifact is in great condition. This figure has ear spools, headdress, and necklace. It has a pillow under it's head. This figure is bound to the bed which usually means that it was a medial patient. The straps were to hold them down while they were being operated on so that they couldn't move during surgery. Most bed figures just show the person reclining on their bed. There are many copies of ones similar to this that are given to Doctors. This one is the real deal. This great artifact date from 200BC-400AD. There appears to be an old repair to the back of this piece. It looks more like a crack stabilization, because the front shows no signs of cracks or repairs. This is a quality artifact. This is a great part of history, that now can be yours. All the ... moreitems I sell are guaranteed as described. Or you can return it for your money back. I have been a collector for over 30 years, and I have purchased hundreds of artifacts from galleries, auction houses, and private collectors and collections. I will use a half dollar and dollar bill at times for size comparison only, and they are not included in the auction. I can combine shipping on multiple purchases. Thanks for looking.
