authentic pre Colombian 3” head dress ornament/ pendant / amulet with conical drilled holes. This was an estate sale find from a collage professor who ... moredid a lot of traveling in south america and has passed away. I've had this in my curio cabinet for many years now and is the only pre columian item I have so it is time to pass it along to a true collector of these types of items and let it get placed in a nice collection or museum. It looks to have been in the ground for a very long time as you can see on the reverse has mineral deposits in some of the drilled holes . Three of the holes are drilled right through as if you can run something through it and have it hang . I'm not exactly sure what this is so any help would be greatly appreciated.

This beautiful dual monkey handled pottery vase is in excellent condition and stands approximately 5” tall and 4” wide. Great old monkey vase ! Here is a Mayan eccentric or exotic from the Yucatan Peninsula of South America. These items were thought to have been used as an offering to the underworld ... moregods asking their premission to enter their underworld domain(a cave) The Maya could then ask a blessing or maybe advice on some delima they were facing. This one appears to be of a snake which held high ranking in many parts of thier culture. A very rare item that comes from my personal frame of eccentrics. It's 3 1/4 inch long and 1 in. wide x 1/4 in thk. at max. made of a light white or tan Chalcedony or Colha chert patinated with white over the ages. A really nice piece worthy of anyones collection! One is 16" long ... moreand the other 17", consisting of hundreds of drilled jade beads ranging in size from 5mm to 3-1/2 cm (the single largest stone). And. Under 40% gold in a piece as Tumbaga. Tumbaga was the name given by Spaniards to a non-specific alloy of gold and copper which they found in widespread use in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. ... moreTumbaga is an alloy comprised mostly of gold and copper. It has a significantly lower melting point than gold or copper alone. It is harder than copper. But maintains malleability after being pounded. Tumbaga can be treated with a simple acid, like citric acid, to dissolve copper off the surface. What remains is a shiny layer of 23-karat gold on top of a harder, more durable copper-gold alloy sheet. Use In The Americas Tumbaga was widely used by the Pre-Columbian cultures of central America to make religious objects. Like most gold alloys. Tumbaga was versatile and could be cast, drawn, hammered, gilded, soldered, welded, plated, hardened, annealed, polished, engraved, embossed, and inlaid. The proportion of gold to copper in artifacts varies wildly; items have been found with as much as 97% gold while others instead contain 97% copper. Some Tumbaga has also been found to be comprised of metals besides gold and copper. Up to 18% of the total mass of the Tumbaga. Metalworking Repoussé or repoussage is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal(such as gold leaf) is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side. Agriculture and fishing were very important activities. The Chimus worshipped the Moon. They view the Sun as a destroyer, possibly because of the harshness of the sun in their desert environment. Their ceramics were usually stained black, although there were variations. Lighter ceramics were not common, but were produced ... morein smaller quantities. The typical brightness of their ceramics was obtained by rubbing against a rock that was previously polished. Archeological evidence dates human occupation of the area as far back as 1500 BCE. With sites here contemporary with San Lorenzo on the Gulf Coast and Tlatilco in the Valley of Mexico. One period of the area’s development is called the Los Ortices ... moreera which began around 500 BCE. During this time the elements which characterize the pre-Hispanic peoples of Colima appear such as shaft tombs and a distinctive ceramic style called“rojo bruñido” or burnished red. The next phase called Comala, covers the time period from around 100 to 600 CE, centered on a site of the same name. Comala people would perfect burnished red pottery and develop representations of people and animals with skill and fluid lines. The best known of these figures are known as the“fattened dogs” The Comala site shows influence from Teotihuacan. Around 500 CE, another site in Armería developed along the river of the same name. The Chanal site was active from the 6th to the 15th centuries and was the main culture for the Colima area. Belonging to this culture was a number of smaller sites and most of the ones known and explored to date. After Chanal the largest related site is La Campana but most contain pyramidal bases and plazas with structures often containing rounded edges. Images of Huehueteotl and Tlaloc appear with this culture. Which may indicate the origins of the cultures that ultimately settled central Mexico. There is one other site call

Archeological evidence dates human occupation of the area as far back as 1500 BCE. With sites here contemporary with San Lorenzo on the Gulf Coast and Tlatilco in the Valley of Mexico. One period of the area’s development is called the Los Ortices era which began around 500 BCE. Pre-Colombian Polychrome Rattle Bowl Pedestal Ceremonial Costa Rica Terra Cotta
I purchased this item a few years ago from a dealer. She couldn't tell me much about where it came from or what it is. I believe this bowl is from Costa Rica. It has very bright coloring and a beautiful patina. The legs are bird heads and all three contain clay marbles that make noise when you move the bowl. Note that there are areas of chipped paint and there are two chips along the rim as pictured. Wear is consistent with age on this piece. It measures approximately 9.25" in diameter(it's uneven and not a perfect circle) and stands just under 6" high. I am not an expert on Pre-Colombian pottery. But it must say that this is a stunning piece that I have been happy to enjoy. Please ask if you have questions. It will ship professionally packed and insured. Posted with
