The design is laid out in four quadrants, with two pyramidal grid or"net" areas and two figural motifs on opposing sides. To many Amerindian groups, the net motif referred to the Milky Way, which was metaphorically described as the net in which stars were caught and concentrated. As suggested by the large implement of office and the planetary head surround, the figure probably represents a shaman or other person of spiritual importance. The bowl measures 7 inches in diameter by 3 inches in height(17.7 cm by 7.62 cm) It shows wear consistent with a dating to the Tuza culture(1250-1500 A.D. including rubbing, tiny cracks, small chips, paint splatter and magnesium staining. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. For your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is a very finely carved Stone Ear of Corn or also called a Corn Cob. In researching these. Found they were used in spiritualy trying to ensure a good crop and harvest- sometimes placed actually in the fields or in a jar. It measures@ 2 5/8" tall x 1 3/16" wide at the widest part. There is NO restoration. 6" tall and 4 1/2" in diameter. An Orange on Buff Effigy jar from Western Mexico. This piece has NO restoration. A small hole in its body, and has a small defect in the bottom of the jar. 4 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" in diameter. From Central America and Western Mexico come these 2 pieces of Pre Columbian pottery. They have not been cleaned. And there is NO restoration, as found condition. Estimated age dates from 514 yrs. to 1.164 yrs. B.P. Pre-Columbian NARINO Pedestal Bowl Guaranteed Authentic Ecuador/Peru DIG approx. 1000 AD Recently I was able to obtain several pieces of authentic pre-Columbian pottery and artifacts from ancient civilizations including the Mayan. Incan, Nazca, Aztec, and Central American cultures, all from one individual’s upscale collection. Up for auction is this very nice very Pedestal Bowl attributed to Narino civilization in pre-Columbian Ecuador. It has polychrome designs along the rim and a deep red coloring underneath. It has the fused on manganese spots from being underground for centuries. It came from a pre WWII dig and has been off the market until now. It has a notation on the bottom that says Ecuador. The piece shows some chips see pics-it has a solid base and stands nicely on its own. No rocking or tipping. It’s deep red and is has ... morea nice size. It measures 5 ½” TALL and is about 7 ½” across at the bowl. This is an extremely old piece and quite interesting. The dating. Attribution of culture and historical references came from meticulous research from the original collector via a very reputable auction house in St Augustine Florida. From what I understand this is a Carchi Narino Ecuador mask and is literally hundreds of years old. It measures roughly 5 1/2" in diameter x 2" front to back. It comes from the estate with a wood and metal display stand. I do not know how to rate condition of these pieces. There are no chips. Cracks or restoration. South American Pre-Columbian Lime Jar Nariño Zoomorphic Frog Effigy Highlands of Southern Columbia/ 800 AD ~ 1500 AD. click on the images for larger. High-definition photos. SIZE: Height- 2 7/8” 7.25 cm) Diameter- 3.25” 8.3 cm) DESCRIPTION: Small Pre-Columbian effigy jar from the Narino Culture of the Southern Highlands of Columbia. Circa 800 Ad ~ 1500 AD. This jar has a sculpted zoomorphic frog effigy straddling the top rim of the jar and it was probably used as a‘poporo’ lime container or similar purpose. The body of the ball-shaped vessel is decorated with negative geometric designs using wax resist. The small frog is nicely sculpted in a stylized. But detailed and lively manner. The wax resist‘bulls eyes’ are placed evenly around the side of the jar, between the amphibian’s legs to good effect. There is a tiny shallow chip to the ... moresurface. Just below the frog’s left front foot. This depression seems to have a tiny gold or pyrite piece in it, either an inclusion in the clay, or a piece used to fill the hole. A very nice example of Narino ceramics. AGE: Circa 800 AD- 1500 AD. Pre Spanish Colonial. Pre-Inca. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: No losses or restoration noted. Overall wear to the wax resist designs. Light, hard soil encrustations in crevices and surfaces. darkened and glossy overall patina from age and handling. Gold or pyrite inclusion as mentioned above. Interior is darkened with thin encrustation. HISTORY: Nariño Culture- People of the Nariño High Plains Between 400 and 1600 A.D. Societies that lived as farmers, shepherds and merchants used to inhabit the cold, high Andean plains and the valleys of Nariño in southern Columbia and northern Ecuador. The Nariño are known mainly for their elaborate shaft burials. Which could reach a depth of 15 meters. At the bottom of the shafts are radiating burial chambers, which often contain gold, seashells, pottery and other offerings. Many of these offerings were items of personal adornment,
