Mayan reproduction polychrome earthenware cup footed pedestal chalice
I do not know the age or origin of this piece. But it is most likely a more modern reporduction. It stands just over 4.5" tall, is about 3 5/8" diameter at the top and 3 1/8" on the bottom. It has an uneven shape and I don't believe it was done on a wheel. It resembles a chalice but I am not able to find a comparably shaped Mayan style piece. Look closely at the pictures to decide for yourself. It does have a hairline crack about an inch long on the inside and outside just to the right of the smaller painted male figure. Thank you for looking and I welcome any questions or further information you may have on this piece.

Pre-Columbian MAYAN POLYCHROME POTTERY pieces - vibrant imagery
Part of a small collection brought back by an agricultural adviser team that did a lot of travel by foot and mule on farms in Latin America in the mid-1960s. These sherds have multi-colored designs. Some could be made into interesting pieces of"ethnic style" jewelry or pendants, or could be shadow-box framed or mounted on a small pedestal.there are chips and very thin cracks- The decorations and colors are fascinating- these were found carefully wrapped in a box marked"Off Tegucigalpa-Olancho highway- old mounds being bulldozed for road building materials. Such pieces were"scattered over the area and being carried away in dump trucks. The most interesting things in this group are the intricate designs, including geometric and especially human and/or animal depictions in vibrant colors and fascinating, artistic designs ... moreon these pieces. It is a very interesting and attractive group of items from the Central American area, and shows the work of highly skilled artisans of long ago. Mayan Polychrome & Cuzco Polychrome Jars: Lot of 2 Items !
For auction are two(2) Utterly Fantastic pre-Columbian/ Prehistoric Jars. We had no bids earlier on their separate listings. So. Now. BOTH these Killer Polychrome Jars are being offered as a 2-Item Lot for a Below-What-I-Paid-Price! First up for Auction is Jar#1: It's a beautiful Mayan Classical Polychrome Cylinder from Lake LaJoa. Honduras. It is 7-38" high x 4" rim. And tells an age-old story of matrimony. It was agreed that this beautiful Classic Mayan Polychrome Jar depicts the Late-Classic Mayan Period(AD 250) where the artists(much like the Anasazi artists) got cruder and slooper as time went on. Same held true with architecture. The only artforms that seemed to get better with time. were Navajo Weaves& Nampeyo Ceramics! The Mimbres blew-away the early archaeologists when they found an array of effigy motifs finely ... morepainted in their bowls. But when it comes to mind-challenging artistic themes. It's all Mayan! Theirs is not only art. it's story telling too. This Jar was part of the late James Parker Estate of St. Petersburg. FL. I purchased it at estate auction in 2014. Lake LaJoa is in the highlands of Honduras. And is known for the extensive ruins circling it, as the birthplace of the Rio Linde Cascades… a remote& wild cascading drainage system that runs from the lake. To the ocean on the western coast. As well. The peoples living around this lake today still tell age-old stories about the sacrifices that took place here by the Mayan centuries ago, and the magnificent treasures that must still rest at its bottom! Next up for Auction is Jar#2: It's a beautiful Pre-Inca Cusco(Cuzco) Polychrome Jar. It measures 5-1/8" High x 3-3/4" at the rim. And is as bright as the Inca Sun! It was made in bustling city of Cuzco somewhere around AD 1360. Most likely coinciding with horrors and related stress of the Spanish intrusion. The Mimbres surely out-did everyone with their effigy themes and line work. But for sheer complexity of detail. its all Cuzco Inca! It was part of the
