A large Pre-Columbian Jalisco horned shaman hollow figure vessel from ancient West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. This example measures approximately ... more10" tall by about 5 1/2" wide and depicts a seated figure with a prominent horn-like protrusion from his forehead. Such horn-like depictions on figures are believed by scholars to symbolically represent the individual as a shaman. The individual has a false beard-like protrusion from his chin, and is holding an object near his mouth, perhaps a flute-like instrument, pipe or ceremonial object. The object is very heavy due to original sediment from burial remaining inside. Condition: Body is intact. Multiple repairs at the head(but the face area is mostly untouched) with fill/restoration over the break lines around the top. Sides and back of the head, as visible in the photos. Surface erosion, pigment loss, chipping, abrasions, weathering and wear overall. Heavy sediment deposits remain inside from burial, with traces of root marks and mineral deposits on the surface as evidence of age and authenticity. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. Collected personally by Langdon between the 1940's to 1960's.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a beautiful Pre-Columbian painted polychrome Copador bowl. From the ... moreMayan culture, Honduras. A wonderfully painted polychrome bowl in red. Black and cream, it features bands painted with various geometric motifs, some linear in nature, others curvilinear. These bowls convey images of esoteric knowledge in the form of pseudo-glyphs and references to mythology. It measures 7 inches in diameter by 3 inches in height(7.62 cm by 17.7 cm) and dates to the Maya Classical Period(300-900 A.D. During this period. The Maya began using polychrome slip paint, meaning they used many different colors to decorate the pots. This method of decoration became almost homogeneous for Mayan potters, thus signaling the beginning of the Classic Period. The pot shows wear consistent with a dating to this period, and generally is in very good condition, with rubbing, minor scratches, tiny chips and wear showing on the inside. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. Rare Pre Columbian "Patojo" Pot - Ometepe Island, Nicaragua, c.800 AD - 1200 AD
Patojo Pot from Ometepe Island. Nicaragua-Nicaro Culture 800-1200 A.D Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This is a rare"patojo" pot from Ometepe Island. Nicaragua and made around 1000 years ago by the Nicaro culture(a branch of the Greater Nicoya Culture) Ometepe Island is located in Lake Nicaragua and it's name means two volcanoes. This is an interesting and rare piece of pre-Columbian pottery that it is decorated in the form of a guinea pig with eyes on either side and a snout at the tip of the pot. A"patojo" pot is called this because it is commonly made in the shape of a shoe, which is pronounced"patojo" in Spanish. These were made by pre-Columbian cultures all over the Americas and the reason for this is that these pots allowed the user to dip into the warm contents from the pot while the ... moreelongated end of the pot rested in a classic"comal" style oven. This anthropomorphic vessel has marks that represent the hair on the animal and that change at the tip to fit the face of the creature. This pot measures 6 3/4" X 4 3/4" with a height of 4" and the mouth of this pot is 3" wide. This piece has only got ships to the flared rim which still has red pigment on the top and seems to have black pigment on the underside. On the bottom of this piece the hash marks stop and on it are a collector's numbers. International buyers pay full cost of shipping. Whatever that might be. Please see my other auctions for more artifacts. Thanks for Looking!

Great prehistoric. Pre-Columbian phytomorphic effigy jar from west Mexico. My guess is Nayarit or Jalisco. Red-slipped, burnished upper section of pot with incised lines representing a squash or melon form. The linear design retains some white mineral paint. Measures approximately 5 1/2" tall x 6 3/4" wide. Overall a choice and well-made example of west Mexico pottery. Shallow rim chip in underside of rim. Moderate amount of rootmarks and manganese deposits inside and out. Circa 0-500 AD. Guaranteed as described. No international shipping. Buyer pays 15.00 for double-boxed, fully insured priority shipping. Payment due within 3 days of auction close. E-mail any questions. Thanks for looking! BTW. Reviewed the attached photos. PRE COLUMBIAN DOUBLE FACE POT Costa Rica origin
This wonderful little pot is 4" high. 2.5" across the top and aprox. 4" wide. My father collected several items like this when he lived in central America in the 1960's, it has been stored away for 30 years since his death. He said it was from Costa Rica and that you could tell because of the"coffee bean" eyes. It is in very good condition with only a few dings and roughness around the top. As you can see from the photos that there are 2 faces, one on each side of the pot. The card of info my father wrote about the pot says it is from 1200 A.D.

Chiriquí Greyware Trippod "Fish Pot" ~ Pre-Columbian Panama ~ c.1200 AD - Nice!
Chiriquí Grey"Fish Pot" Panama, c.1200 AD These tripod pots are typical of Chiriquí pottery. Found in what is today Panama. Tis style of pottery has been referred to as"fish pots" because the of the shape of the legs, which are stylized to look like fish with fins out from their sides. Where the heads of the fish might be, this pot has three bulbous shaped areas, and it has triangular shaped holes in the chambers of the legs where beads should be to make the legs rattle- but which are missing or lost to antiquity. This pot has a flared lip that has a flat top above where lip angles into the bowl. On the outside of the bowl there are two handles made of entwined cords of clay and below the outside lip there is a flat space where this pot might have had a cord of some sort going round it and through the handles. ... moreThis pot stands fine and yet at very slight angle to one side. This is a fie pot for display and for study and would make a good addition to any collection of fine antiquities. This pot measures 6" high X 6" maximum diameter. International buyers pay full cost of shipping. Please see our other auctions- we can combine shipping. Thanks for looking!

Pre-Columbian MAYAN CERAMIC BOWL, 10" dia. 3 leg, very Nice piece, Pot Bowl ?
I know little to nothing about this wonder part of history but I did sell a large Mayan collection some 20 years ago on Ebay with nothing but happy customers. Figure seems to have long horns to me. These are from an Estate I bought from a gentleman who worked for Halliburton traveling the world for 50 years looking for places to dig for oil. Please view my other listings. If somebody wanted all at one price I could chat about that. I will double box all of these pieces so they make their travel safely. This items was discovered in an antique shop in North Conway. NH about 10 years ago in a glass case with similar items(see my other listing for the pre-Columbian bird whistle) While I am not an archaeological or history expert, all the items were tagged as being pre-Columbian and the collector was selling his items for healthcare reasons. Pre Columbian Costa Rica Diquis culture Tripod Jaguar Vessel Pot 800 -1520 AD
Hi! Up for auction is an ancient Costa Rican Diquis culture Tripod Jaguar vessel from the Chortega-Chocolate Guanacaste region. It’s dated 800 to 1100 AD on the original provenance(see picture) but I believe it could be later from 1000 to 1520 AD. This vessel could possibly be a Buenos Aires polychrome variant from the Diquis culture. Greater Chiriqui Period VI. From the pictures. This tripod is a beautiful vessel! The deep red color is really strong. The two glyphs on the sides are delightful and artistically executed! Each glyph represents an abstract jaguar and I don’t believe is written language. However, the showstopper is the adorable Jaguar head! What’s great is the jaguar head is actually a rattle! Provenance: This vessel is from the ex-Cotton Mather collection in Phoenix. AZ, USA. In the early 1970s, he imported it with a Costa Rican ... moregovernment permit before imports were prohibited. Therefore, this vessel is perfectly legal to buy and sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600. CHAPTER 14. As for the condition: This vessel has its condition issues. Even though the beautiful Jaguar head is perfect and still intact. The Jaguar’s tail is missing and has been since Pre-Columbian times. You can tell by the way the ageing is on it. What’s strange is how perfectly clean the missing tail was removed from the vessel. Right above the missing tail, there is a significant clip on the rim. Based on a top view of the vessel, the rim chip and the missing tail line up indicating the tail could have been ritually broken off on purpose and the rim was chipped in the process. As seen in the pics, there is a small hole on the back right side and the back tripod foot broke off but was re-attached. On closer inspection, the paint is in great condition but is slowly micro age cracking all over the vessel for over the thousands of years. This age cracking typically occurs from this region. Thanks for looking! SHIPPING INFO: For all domestic shipments. I ship via USPS Parcel Post. Shipping includes del
Pre Columbian Artifact, Glazed Clay, Round Bottom Pot
This is a Pre Columbian Glazed Clay Vase with a round bottom. I bought this at a de-acquisition sale from the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History in 1971. They indicated at the time it was from a Central/South American dig.and that is all I know about it. The vase is in excellent condition with the exception of the two chips shown above. It measures 7" high. Approximately 10" wide and the top, flared, opening is 6" wide. There are three sets of patterned marking as shown in the third photo.containing nine"dots" These are surface applied and two of the three each has one"dot" missing. I am downsizing and wishing to find a good home for this beautiful piece of history. It needs to be out where it can be enjoyed and not packed away in a box which is where it has been since I bought it. I have several other ... moresimilar pieces from the same sale listed.so please check those out also. The price I have this item listed for is what I paid for it in 1971. I will be happy to try and answer any questions you might have. Thanks for looking and in advance for your bid consideration.

Pre Columbian Terracotta Statue of Woman Carrying Water Pot Pre Columbian Terracotta statue of a woman holding a pot that I believe is Aztec or possibly Mayan. It measures approximately 4 1/4" tall. This is one of a few Pre Columbian items I obtained from an estate collection. Unfortunately it was broken somewhere along the line and not professionally repaired. The tape on the back appears to be old masking tape and was probably used to hold it together while the glue dried. This is a beautiful little piece and would be a great addition to any collection. Pre Columbian Mississipian Era Pot, Squash Shape Museum Deaccession
For sale is a Pre Columbian Mississipian Era Pot. Squash Shape and was a Museum Deaccession. The museum was privately owned by James H. Durham, I think located in Oklahoma. I purchased this pot in the early 1990's from Mr. Durham's grandson. Evidently, this piece was collected in the 1930's though I am not sure of the exact location of origin. The piece is in rough condition, having been broken and reglued. It measures 8 inches tall and 7 inches across at the widest point. This piece probably dates between 800 AD and 1600 AD.
