$8.00 Shipping Location: West Palm Beach, United States PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY WHISTLE ECUADOR AUTHENTIC This is a large authentic Pre Columbian pottery. Terra cotta, whistle/ ocarina from ecuador. Jamacoaque ... morefrom a private collection dating 350 B C- 1200 A D. This is not a reprodution. The front has a human head on what sems to be the front of a jaguar with paw feet. It tapers to a rounded point and has a handle. The face has excellent detail with deep set eyes with brow ridges, earrings, very prominent nose ring and an open mouth with pointed teeth. The teeth give it a rather frightening appearance no doubt intentional. The nose is not damaged but obscured by the thick nose ring that hangs down onto the top lip. The head with a headdress and side lappets. There is a hole at the back end and one in back of the head. The body is clear but I believe there is still debris in the head as IT WILL NOT TWEET. I did not want to try to dislodge debris and damage the holes. It measures 4 1/2 inches long and approx 4 1/4 inches high and rests on two paw feet. Clay color is a buff color not quite as dark as in the photos. I am saying Jamacoaque but it was in with Jamacoaque and also La Tolita fragments and I am not an expert. It is in very good condition with some chips to the side lappets that are not evident from the front but I have the damage pictured. I see evidence of an old repair or restoration on the front legs as there is a thin line that extends over to the back(see photos) However. I do not see evidence of a clean break all around and I do not see any type of glue in the lines. The clay color is very consisent and the restoration or repair was done a long time ago in Ecuador and not by the private collector who brought them back years ago. There seems to be no evidence of trying to hide the breaks unless they were cracks and the piece was not broken or separated. Other pieces in the collection had repairs and evidence of glue and some of these are in my other listings. I have close up photos of the lines or breaks that i have darkened a bit in the photos to show

Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. The piece still has some of the original paint on it and is just a super example of ceremonially broken pottery. It measures 3.25 inches long. The whistle is rather crude in appearance with fantastic antiquity appeal. The whistle works great and has a wonderful sound that varies if holding a finger over the hole at the bottom. I'm unsure as to the composition but would guess some kind of clay or pottery material. This is a fabulous item for display and makes for a great conversation piece. Animal, vegetable or mineral? from coastal Peru, dating from about 100 to 800 AD, more or less. T he condition is mostly good. Showing great age and wear overall, with a chipped area on the front end(see pictures) possibly the reason I cannot identify what it represents, about 34 mm(1-3/8 inches) in length, about 20 mm tall when viewed from the side and 15 mm at the widest part. Authentic pre columbian ceramic figure whistle. This figure shows a typical priest or shaman figure with the long robe and a large necklace. He is wearing with a helm and large face mask. The face mask shows a parrot. In Copan Honduras was the parrot the sign of the ball game, the holy game of the Maya world. It is quite possible that this represented the protector and decision of life and death at the ball game and the whistle is part of the ritual. As in Copan several of these pipes have been found. May also mean that the holy leaders and driving instructions given to players with the pipes. The ceramic is nice and especial work up. A very uncommon and neat looking pre-Spanish contact(pre-Columbian) Moche culture ceramic stylized Female-shaped whistle wearing a bold head dress or hat. From coastal Peru, dating from about 100 to 800 AD, more or less. T he condition is mostly good. Showing great age and wear overall, about 55 mm(over 2 inches) in length, about 13 mm tall when viewed from the side and 26 mm(about one inch) at the widest part. The left part of the hat has a fracture that appears to have been repaired The Moche culture was very creative in various art forms, especial figural and sculpture works. Symbolism was a very important part of their culture. this is a very unusual whistle and still very collectible despite the repair. This pre-Columbian bird whistle was hand carved from a piece of petrified wood(fossilized wood) The piece was made so that the growth rings appear at the position of the bird’s wing on one side. Wood grain can be seen all over the piece. And tool marks are clearly visible as well. The whistle measures 2” long, and is about 5/8” in diameter. The piece is in excellent condition, with no breaks or repairs. It is a lovely and rare piece, and you are not likely to see another like this. Dating to the Protoclassic Period of the Jama Coaque sculptural tradition, ca. A.D. 200-600, has the detailed features typical of this culture: the large lidded half-moon shaped eyes, the nose with large nose-ring decoration with turquoise colored pigment which also appears in the headdress as well as the necklaces, multiple earrings on one side, multiple rows of incised decorations are covering the shoulders and arms, which are held outward at her sides. She is bare-chested and a reddish-orange slip covers the face. A hole in the top of the head not only serves as the vent, but is the mouthpiece for the fully functional whistle. A choice Pre Columbian Seated Lord/Shaman pottery figure and whistle from Artemis Gallery. This piece is in fabulous condition and very rare coming from the Bahia culture in the Ecuador region. It has a hat with two horns of the Shaman and between is a hole that makes a delightful whistle. Pristine trichrome colors and very little destruction of glaze or paint. It appears to have some mineral deposits on feet and a few places. No cracks or chipping that I see. It has earrings. A nose ring, likely in person it was Gold, and a breast plate. It is a Seated Lord figure. Very difficult to find from Ecuador cultures. This is a very unique piece and could easily be seen in a museum collection. PRE COLUMBIAN BIRD WHISTLE ECUADOR This is an authentic Pre Columbian pottery bird whistle from Ecuador and not a reproduction. It measures 3 inches from the bill to the tail and is approximately 2 1/2 inches high. It is free standing level on two feet and balanced by the flat wide tail. Two bulging eyes and to dots(sears) on the top of the bill. One side of the bill has a chip but it is long and does not alter the shape of the bill. The wings are folded back against the body with some minor rough edges on the front tips. Overall condition is very good with no body damage and no repairs. The two holes are perfectly round and not chipped.One on the bottom and one in the tail to blow through to make it whistle. It has a mellow sound as the holes are clear of debris. The figure is hollow. This was in a private collection with La Tolita an Jamacoaque ... morefragments but I am not an expert and cannot positively identify which culture. Pre-Columbian two hole, two tone animal whistle
This is a nice pre-columbian two hole. Two tone Animal Whistle. I believe it represents a dog. It has a hole on its side and a hole in the backend. The tail is the blow part. Put your finger on the side hole and makes a different whistle. The tailtip has been broken off but still very functional. Its 3 1/2" long and 3" tall. This piece was bought at the Wells Fargo Musuem Auction in Nov. 1986 in Tombstone, Az. Nice old piece for any collection.

Hi. I have a cool collection of Pre-Columbian whistle artifacts for auction. The 2 whistles in the lower left at Manabi from Ecuador. The rest are Mayan. A couple of them still whistle. This is a good study group. There are ruins through out Mexico and other countries, that people report hearing whistles and flutes at night time. The ruins of Sayil in the Yucatan, the curator says he hears them weekly. These would be a good addition to any collection. These were aquired from previous old collections. Thanks for looking. The monkey’s arms are both broken off and the mouth is chipped, but otherwise it looks great. There is some soiling and scuffing but it’s in great antique condition. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR AUTHENTIC FIGURAL POTTERY WHISTLE OCARINA JAMACOAQUE LG
PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY WHISTLE ECUADOR AUTHENTIC This is a large authentic Pre Columbian pottery. Terra cotta, whistle/ ocarina from ecuador. Jamacoaque from a private collection dating 350 B C- 1200 A D. This is not a reprodution. The front has a human head on what sems to be the front of a jaguar with paw feet. It tapers to a rounded point and has a handle. The face has excellent detail with deep set eyes with brow ridges, earrings, very prominent nose ring and an open mouth with pointed teeth. The teeth give it a rather frightening appearance no doubt intentional. The nose is not damaged but obscured by the thick nose ring that hangs down onto the top lip. The head with a headdress and side lappets. There is a hole at the back end and one in back of the head. The body is clear but I believe there is still debris in the head as IT WILL NOT ... moreTWEET. I did not want to try to dislodge debris and damage the holes. It measures 4 1/2 inches long and approx 4 1/4 inches high and rests on two paw feet. Clay color is a buff color not quite as dark as in the photos. I am saying Jamacoaque but it was in with Jamacoaque and also La Tolita fragments and I am not an expert. It is in very good condition with some chips to the side lappets that are not evident from the front but I have the damage pictured. I see evidence of an old repair or restoration on the front legs as there is a thin line that extends over to the back(see photos) However. I do not see evidence of a clean break all around and I do not see any type of glue in the lines. The clay color is very consisent and the restoration or repair was done a long time ago in Ecuador and not by the private collector who brought them back years ago. There seems to be no evidence of trying to hide the breaks unless they were cracks and the piece was not broken or separated. Other pieces in the collection had repairs and evidence of glue and some of these are in my other listings. I have close up photos of the lines or breaks that i have darkened a bit in the photos to show

I purchased this from Arte Primitivo, the Howard Rose Gallery. There is a picture included of the piece in the auction catalog. It was the July 17, 2006 Catalog Page 12#30. They cam from the Imre and Nicholas T. Molnar collection that they accumulated from 1960-1978. This is a very unique artifact. I haven't seen one quite like this. The whistle is broken.
