Pre Columbian Mayan pottery rattle, ritual, artifact, relic art COA
Really cute rare authentic Pre Columbian Mayan pottery artifact ceremonial or ritual rattle. Stand goes with it. This Mayan piece is nicely proportioned and a cute artistic artifact. Pre Columbian cultures often used music with strings. Flutes, rattles, and rattle vessels in rituals and ceremonies and the Mayans too. I am not sure if the rattles might also be placed in tombs to scare away bad spirits. They would be shaken for sound. There are lots of Pre Columbian pottery flutes around but not many of these rattles. Some minor surface scratching on pottery with some white spots. Purchased from Artemis Gallery. Dealers in ancient and pre Columbian art, and COA available on request. Great piece for conversation and it works. I am sure not meant as baby rattle but more as later maracas for rhythmic music or to ward off spirits in ceremonies ... moreor in burials. Ht. 5 inches. Width is 1 inch. A little guy but unusual and will enhance a collection. Culture Mayan CA 500 AD Provenance Artemis Gallery dealer in antiquities and having an auction coming in March. Pre Columbian Chancay death rattle pottery, artifact, relic, art, COA
Rare Chancay artifact of a woman on death rattle ceremonial piece. From central Costa Rican culture and used in death rituals. It rattles when shaken. Good paint and comes with its own stand. Authentic piece comes with COA if requested. I bought this from Artemis Gallery who sell and deal in antiquities. Authentic item. It's something I have not seen before. It is rather rough hewn texture I believe when created but it adds to the piece. Many Chancay pieces have gray beige tone with black painted designs and this is no different. Really intriguing piece to have in a collection. I will be sad to part with it. Culture: Chancay. CA 1000-1300AD. Provenance Artemis Gallery item sale. Ht 6 inches. Width 5 inches, depth 1 inch. Well carved but there are expected surface scratching and a few splotches that do not detract. A nice change up for collectors. Culture: Chimu. Great pre Columbian seated couple in two figures. This is a wonderful pair seated together with stoic poses. Jalisco couples are rare to fid and great collectors items. I purchased them from Minerva Gallery that sells Pre a Columbian art and other lovely antiquities and they are authentic. They come from an old culture in Western Mexico. I am not sure what could have happened to the man's right shoulder. Handsome arrangement of antique native clay beads with a pre Columbian stone pendant. This is another combination of old and new together for a sharp wearable piece. The other spacers and restrung clasps are all new as is the cord. The stones are lovely pastel shades and easy to look at with a simply stated elegance. The colored clay stones are probably North American. About 1-200 years old and the stone is Pre Columbian, but I don't know the culture but likely 500-1000 years old. SALE Inca Treasures Ltd Pre Columbian Inca figural ocarina pottery, artifact art
This is a very nice representation of a pre Columbian Inca Figural pottery flute/ocarina artifact. In the shape of a ruler figure. It still has about 4 to 5 clear great notes or tones when played. Better than my whistling. I purchased online and cannot be certain it is authentic. It was represented to be. It appears old with black clouds on surface and earthy pungent smell when inside dampened. This goes along with being authentic. I don't see manganese deposits but they are often missing depending where they were. I think it may be authentic or a very old replica nicely done. A great conversation piece. There is a marking on the back. I don't know it it significant or a mark from the artist. Since I cannot guarantee this is not a replica. I am reducing to a low SALE price but the work is great and it appears genuine. It does not ... morelook like a tourist reproduction. So buy as is and you can check further if it actually is real, then you have a nice item at a very reasonable price and plays music too. Culture Inca Culture. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. Pre Columbian reproduction Muisca double jar pottery artifact Art vessel
This interesting piece is a Pre Columbian reproduction of a Muisica double jar effigy vessel complete with aging appearance including manganese deposits. It is a fairly large item. Solid and rather heavy. The color and markings are intense making it a great show piece. I purchased this and a few others that are made by modern artists doing Pre Columbian style vessels. This even has mineral deposits scattered over it. I like a few of these from the artistic standpoint and I can get nice Pre Columbian decor for much less than original that are artistically done. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian style pottery bowl artifact Terraca Mexico art
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or bowl. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s to early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. ... moreThe other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. This is a wonderful set of nineteen Pre Columbian pottery stone artifact beads strung together. Seventeen are on the tie and 2 smaller whorl beads are free from another collection giving 19 beads. They are from Western Mexico but the two conical shaped are likely Peru beads. They have great patterns. Color and deep decorations on them. Great pieces for making more ornate necklaces or just to enjoy. Spindle or whorl beads were used on spindle sticks to enhance the spinning speed of making yarn out of the alpaca wool. They may have been used decoratively for other purposes. SALE Pre Columbian Mayan Olla vessel terracota pottery artifact art
Sale item. Reducing my collection. This is a nice Pre Columbian Mayan olla vessel with really interesting surface patina. Nice for the beginning collector with lower budget but with lots of interesting features. It has manganese deposits from burial. The uneven fading patterns of paint and glaze leaves traces of paint showing even with some red coloring. On the bottom it has some lines still penetrating through of the original design work and from side it appears there are columns of color left over. RARE Pre Columbian Vera Cruz dying Deity terracotta artifact art pottery COA
This is a rare and very unusual figural effigy of a Pre Columbian terracotta. Pottery dying deity figure lying on a bed with a blanket. It has also been described as a sleeping deity. In any event it is a real eye grabber. Figure much more realism based than a lot of Pre Columbian art complete with open mouth and teeth. Figure lying supine with legs up and either dying or sleeping. Head has holes through it but I don't know the meaning of this. He is not demanding and will not ask much attention. Pre Columbian terracotta Chupicuaro vessel antiquity art artifact pottery COA
A really nice smoothly finished Chupicuaro olla shapped Pre Columbian terracotta vessel with a flared rim. Rim has three small fluted designs protruding out and there are two hanging holes on both sides so it might hang. Over fire. As décor, funeral? What I really like about this is the variations in the glazing with either smoke clouds or other unevenness that gives it a really eye catching patina and color. nice solid piece and it has good form. For a one color piece its been a favorite. Good artifact. I bought from a collector and had it in auction in Artemis Gallery a while back. I took it back as it was one that didn't move. If it is not sold here I will likely reauction it at the start price I have here. Culture: Chupicuaro. West Mexico. Ca: 500BC-300AD. Size 8 inches wide. 4 inches at rim, 5 inches tall.
