SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE* GENUINE Pre Columbian Jade Axe God Pendant Figurine 6th– 7th Century Mesoamerican Costa Rica This is a genuine ... morePre Columbian jade figure pendant. Commonly called an“axe god” because of the shape. Although all of these jade figures are rare today. This one is especially unusual due to the fact that it has defined legs instead of the more common“axe” bottom, although it still maintains the traditional taper of the standard axe shape when viewed for the side. The positioning of the arms, folded upwards on each side of the chest(as in later Pre-Columbian gold figures) is also less typical than the standard figures which usually place the arms parallel across the chest. Under magnification you can see supple tooling marks throughout the surface. The marks are typical of the time period and not perfectly parallel as modern tool marks are. The surface has a nice“soft” look. Again typical for an original Mesoamerican piece, unlike the often harsh cuts and sharp edges caused by modern tools and the overall lack of finesse that the original Pre Columbian artist were so skilled at achieving(although much of that look is due to the type of tools used at the time, which would make it difficult to achieve the harsh lines that are common on modern pieces, caved with modern tools) The right foot has what I think is a small chip. Although its edges aren’t rough or sharp so perhaps it’s just an imperfection that was in the stone and not completely carved away when it was made. You can see the“chip” in the last two photos at the bottom of the page. Other than that the piece is in good shape. The hand drilled suspension hole(generally drilled using bone or wood with an abrasive) has an accumulation of mineral deposits lining the inner walls. A typical sign of age. The use of jade in Costa Rica comes to an end about 500- 600 AD. When there was a cultural shift towards gold for use in luxury items. The overall style of this figure is typical of this period. It measures about 3

Pre-Columbian zoomorphic tripod bowl vessel—1000-1500 AD Costa Rica
This is an unusually formed tripod bowl from Atlantic watershed. Costa Rica. It dates from 1000-1500 AD. The animals are probably anteaters or cotamundis, although both have longer legs than shown on this piece. The carbon deposits on the underside mean the vessel was probably used to heat a chocolate mixture. Tripods from Costa Rica were frequently used as chocolate pots. Measurements- H: 10" Diameter of flared top: 6" leg spread at widest point: 7" CONDITION: Legs repaired. Please study the many photos carefully and ask questions before you bid. *GENUINE Pre Columbian Jade Axe God Pendant Figurine 6 – 7th Century Costa Rica
SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE* GENUINE Pre Columbian Jade Axe God Pendant Figurine 6th– 7th Century Mesoamerican Costa Rica This is a genuine Pre Columbian jade figure pendant. The marks are typical of the time period and not perfectly ... moreparallel as modern tool marks are.

As you can see from the photos that there are 2 faces, one on each side of the pot. The card of info my father wrote about the pot says it is from 1200 A.D.

Pre-Columbian Hand Crafted Clay Jar-Very Old, Costa Rica?
Pre-Columbian Hand Crafted Clay Jar This came from Dad's Collection. The jar is 3 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. There is a small chip on the body that is clearly shown in the pictures. Dad had a note tag with it that said over 1000 years old. I took it to a local auction gallery appraiser who shared it was likely a Nicoya Jar from Costa Rica. My own research found nearly identical listings that were Nicoya Circa 500-800 AD. I am not an expert and I have taken numerous high definition pictures so you can be the expert. The Chorotegas(which translates to"fleeing people" migrated around A.D. 500 from Southern Mexico into the Nicoya Peninsula to escape ... moreslavery. Their customs, language and calendar were largely influenced by more advanced cultures of Mexico and Guatemala. The influence of the Mayans was evident in their written language and use of a calendar, while their spoken language, Nahua, is distinctly Aztec in origin. The Chorotegas excelled at farming, growing abundant harvests of corn, as well as cotton, beans, fruits and cacao. The latter was originally introduced to Costa Rica by the Chorotegas, and they used its seeds as currency. The land was communally owned and harvests were divided according to need. This assured that even those unable to maintain crops, such as widows or the elderly, were provided for. Pre Columbian Costa Rica Diquis culture Tripod Jaguar Vessel Pot 800 -1520 AD
Hi! Up for auction is an ancient Costa Rican Diquis culture Tripod Jaguar vessel from the Chortega-Chocolate Guanacaste region. It’s dated 800 to 1100 AD on the original provenance(see picture) but I believe it could be later from 1000 to 1520 AD. This vessel could possibly be a Buenos Aires polychrome variant from the Diquis culture. Greater Chiriqui Period VI. From the pictures. This tripod is a beautiful vessel! The deep red color is really strong. The two glyphs on the sides are delightful and artistically executed! Each glyph represents an abstract jaguar and I don’t believe is written language. However, the showstopper is the adorable Jaguar head! What’s great is the jaguar head is actually a rattle! Provenance: This vessel is from the ex-Cotton Mather collection in Phoenix. AZ, USA. In the early 1970s, he imported it with a Costa Rican ... moregovernment permit before imports were prohibited. Therefore, this vessel is perfectly legal to buy and sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600. CHAPTER 14. As for the condition: This vessel has its condition issues. Even though the beautiful Jaguar head is perfect and still intact. The Jaguar’s tail is missing and has been since Pre-Columbian times. You can tell by the way the ageing is on it. What’s strange is how perfectly clean the missing tail was removed from the vessel. Right above the missing tail, there is a significant clip on the rim. Based on a top view of the vessel, the rim chip and the missing tail line up indicating the tail could have been ritually broken off on purpose and the rim was chipped in the process. As seen in the pics, there is a small hole on the back right side and the back tripod foot broke off but was re-attached. On closer inspection, the paint is in great condition but is slowly micro age cracking all over the vessel for over the thousands of years. This age cracking typically occurs from this region.
