The area known archaeologically as West Mexico has long been recognized as a region of beautiful ceramic sculptures. Manifestations of a reverence for ancestors and a belief in the power of symbolism. These traits are recognized as characteristic of the cultural development of the region during the period from 300 B.C. to 400 A.D. the time of the Colima culture. Colima is best known for its finely finished red burnished effigies, both of humans and animals, especially dogs, and the solid small unburnished figurines, commonly called Colima flats. It measures 2 inches in width by 0.5 inches in depth by 6 inches in height(5.08 cm by 1.27 cm by 15.2 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with a Pre-Columbian dating, with a hairline cracks on both legs from previous repair work, but generally is in very good condition. It also comes with a specially designed, hand-made iron museum display stand for display. Guaranteed authentic, it would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. MEXICO, CHUPICUARO RATTLE FIGURE, CA. 500 BC - 300 AD
A whimsical rotund terracotta seated rattle figure from the Chupicuaro culture of ancient Mexico. Ca. 500 BC-300 AD. The figure wears a rather elaborate hat and some sort of neckware. Portion of one arm and the end of the other broken off and lost to antiquity, otherwise pristine. Laminated in clear plastic, of a similar figure for complete, permanent, dating and culture documentation. A cute pre-Columbian artifact, demonstrates the imagination of the ancient Chupicuaro. Precolumbian Picasso / Chupicuaro, ancient Mexico, 100 BC-300 AD, sculpture #25
Precolumbian head from Teotihuacán. Mexico(1) Precolumbian. Sculpted, ceramic head; most likely 100 BC to 300 AD 500 A.D. It appears to be in the Chupicuaro style which reminds people of Picasso. 2) Dimensions. approximately 1 inch by 1" by half an inch" 3) Medium. clay. Hard fired under great heat. 4) Provenance. I found this head(and other heads) in a farmer's field near the center of the ruins of Teotihuacán. Near Mexico City, in 1966 or 1967, when I was an anthropology student at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. Generally, these farmers' fields were rocky and dusty but rain would wash the dust off the rocks and reveal that some of them had faces- and were terracotta heads and not rocks. Many times, after a rain, I would take a bus from Mexico City to Teotihuacán, explore the farmers' ... morefields, and look for those features that were not visible when covered with dust. In this way, I acquired dozens of precolumbian heads. How to distinguish an authentic precolumbian sculpture from a fake: 1) provinance; know the source; 2) study precolumbian anthropology; see what's in the museums and the books; 3) lick. Or otherwise wet, the object and see how long it takes to dry; ancient ceramics take a long time to dry because they are more porous than new ceramics. Views of this primitive/ modern art old head show front and back.

Mounted and labeled on a polished hardwood plinth, the overall height is 6-5/8" 16.9cm) I will furnish a color photocopy. As such, dogs were envisioned as a guide to lead the spirits of the dead to their resting place in the underworld and such representational objects might have been interred with the deceased. Pre-Columbian Michoacan OBSIDIAN EFFIGY & BEADS, ca; 300 BC-300 AD
SquareTrade © AP6.0 It's time for me to start downsizing my 62 year collection of North and Central American Indian and Pre-Columbian artifacts! Here's a small group consisting of a rare Obsidian STYLIZED HUMAN EFFIGY PENDANT and two(2) PERFORATED DISC BEADS. Ca: 300 BC- 300 AD found many years ago on a MICHOACAN Western Village Culture Site in Mexico's Western Highlands. The HUMAN EFFIGY PENDANT was flaked from a thin obsidian prismatic blade. It represents a"stylized" human form with legs spread and arms out. Unfortunately a small piece of one leg was broken off anciently. It's about 1 1/8 in. 2.7cm) high. 1 3/8 in. 3.5cm) wide and only 1/16 in. 2cm) thick. The larger"rachet" shaped bead is 5/8 in. 1.7cm) in diameter, the smaller bead 1/2 in. 1.2cm) in diameter. Both are made of a thin flake of obsidian ... moreand are about the same thickness as the effigy. The large bead is made of banded gray obsidian, the smaller bead is of opaque black obsidian. These materials were probably from different volcanoes! All these artifacts are perforated for wearing. How they made the holes in these items is a mystery to me. It appears the holes were pecked through by using a very sharp stone such as the point of a quartz crystal. They probably broke two for every one that was successful! My Feedback Profile and eBay preferred seller reputation attest to my integrity and honesty. The authenticity of my artifacts and relics is guaranteed for life, OR YOUR MONEY BACK! Buyer pays $2.00 First Class S/H. Shipping charges to foreign buyers will be greater. No reserve. Good luck!
