Black and cream, it features bands painted with various geometric motifs, some linear in nature, others curvilinear. These bowls convey images of esoteric knowledge in the form of pseudo-glyphs and references to mythology. It measures 7 inches in diameter by 3 inches in height(7.62 cm by 17.7 cm) and dates to the Maya Classical Period(300-900 A.D. During this period. The Maya began using polychrome slip paint, meaning they used many different colors to decorate the pots. This method of decoration became almost homogeneous for Mayan potters, thus signaling the beginning of the Classic Period. The pot shows wear consistent with a dating to this period, and generally is in very good condition, with rubbing, minor scratches, tiny chips and wear showing on the inside. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. The interior includes geometric patterns and ... morelines, and a zoomorphic condor or mythical bird within a fiery circle in the center of the interior. This circle is mirrored on the inside of and overlapping the top of the rim. The exterior and interior have two black lines around the center with a weave pattern in the interior between the uppermost line and the rim. All three legs are also decorated. The bowl has a rounded bottom and curved sides with a slightly flared rim, and the ovoid legs are hollow and contain rattles. In excellent condition, although visible flaking has occurred, with mineral deposits normal for its age and only a very few minor nicks. Original condition, not restored. Estimated age of 300 BCE- 300 CE. Approx. 6” diameter x 3 1/8” high with the bowl about 2 ½” deep.Provenance- This item was recently purchased from the estate of the late Willis Pratt, a career academic at the University of Texas in Austin. Selling here is a superb example of the ceramic art of the ancient Maya. The exterior of this well potted bowl is flared outwards and deeply faceted. Below the flared rim is a strip of polychrome decoration depicting stylised toucan motifs. The interior of this Copador bowl features glyphs and portayals of further animal iconography. The bowl originates from the Central American country of El Salvador and dates to the Late Classsic period c.750 AD, regarded to be the high point of Mayan civilisation and artistic expression. Late Classic Period 300-900 AD Guatemala/El Salvador/Honduras. Jaguar anamorphic motif on tripod legs. Color and condition are amazing. Gold or other metallic flecks mixed into the clay. The glyphs or psuedo-glyphs are remarkable. An amazing piece of history that could be furthered studied and/or presented in a museum. Root marks. Earthy smell and sediments are consistent with age. I know little to nothing about this wonder part of history but I did sell a large Mayan collection some 20 years ago on Ebay with nothing but happy customers. I know enough to judge the real thing which this is. I respectfully offer this and some other pieces of art& history on Ebay. I know nothing about what figure this represents. Figure seems to have long horns to me. These are from an Estate I bought from a gentleman who worked for Halliburton traveling the world for 50 years looking for places to dig for oil. Pre-Colombian Central American Bowl with Warrior Effigy Handles. Probably Mayan
This is a possible Pre-Colombian Mayan Bowl with Warrior Handles. Bowl measures 10 inches across and 6.5 inches tall and is made of terracotta. This bowl has been in my family for many years going back to the early 1960's and is in great condition. The handles are faces of Mayan Warriors and is very unique. There are no cracks or chips in this fine item. The age of the bowl is unknown but I was always told it was Pre-Colombian.

It has gorgeous redish, brown and tan colors across the bowl. Item is in great shape for it's age. You are bidding on a pre columbian mayan ceramic tripod bowl with cattle legs. The bowl measures 5 1/2 inches wide and a little under 3 1/2 inches tall. The bowl is painted red and black. This bowl is one of the nicest painted pieces I have in the collection. You can still see almost the brush strokes on the bowls inner side. This item is very very old and 100% authentic. There are no physical breaks in the item at all. If you shake the item. You can hear something moving inside. Almost as if there is a piece if pottery loose in one of the legs or someone buried a lovely treasure inside of it, that would only be found if the item was broken. Lot of Pre Columbian Artifacts I bought these recently from a local family. Their grandfather collected them in his travels many years ago. They found them all packed together and I do not know what regions they are from. The bowl 7" in diameter and has a few edge chips and a couple hairlines. The design inside shows 2 mythical looking creatures. Suns and geometric patterns. Outside of bowl has surface loss but still shows some designs.
