Colima Dog This is a wonderful Colima figural dog vessel. As found in a local estate and believed to be an ancient piece from Western Mexico, approximately ... moretwo thousand years old. The dog is fat- or pregnant- with a hollow body in aggressive stance with tail that forms a spout. The dog's eyes and mouth are incised into the clay. Dog effigies such as this were buried in tombs in the belief that dogs were an important guide into the afterlife of the deceased. Both of the dog's ears are chipped; one with minor loss. The other more significantly. Two legs have been re-glued; the repairs are rough and amateur, and the break lines appear to have had some loss and are not well-aligned. The burnished reddish brown exterior is mottled and veined. And the interior is encrusted with mineral sediment. The dog came to me without information on its history or provenance. But shows many indications of its age. It's a fascinating piece that is sure to complement any collection. Two legs repaired somewhat roughly. One ear is broken. The other is chipped. Other expected wear. Burnished exterior, rough interior with sediment deposits. 9 3/8" long. 6" high, 5" across[ p e n c i l p o i n t e r Shipping? FREE via USPS Priority International Shipping? Displays great and suituable for wearing. Modernly restrung with pieces from the late Dr. David Harner collection, Arkansas. The Colima culture flourished in ancient west Mexico along with the Nayarit and Jalisco cultures (collectively known as the Shaft Tomb cultures), in the 200BC-250AD range. All three produced incredible art, especially in the form of ceramic figures, while the Colima also specialized in crafting obsidian blades and ornamental pieces.

COLIMA, Mexico Pre Columbian Pottery Male Figure with Skin Lesions 400-800 A. D.
This is a primitive piece of pottery made in Colima. Mexico circa 400-800 A.D. It is mounted on a wooden pedestal that gives the information about the piece and the back is an advertisement for Valisone Cream. This looks prehistoric and I believe it to be an authentic piece. The ad had me concerned, but the owner of this piece is a retired Archaeologist, so I now feel comfortable again calling this pottery piece an authentic primitive piece from Colima, Mexico. It measures 2.75" x 4.5" and is in great condition. See pictures for details and please contact me with any questions. 1150 14th#18

A Fine Pre-Columbian Colima Blackware Seated Figure Holding a Large Double-lobed Vessel. Late Preclassic, ca. 300 B.C. to 100 B.C. This unique solid blackware ceramic seated figure holding a large hollow double-lobed pot. Has black burnished slip with brownish mottled torso and beautiful glossy patina overall, dates to the Late Preclassic Period of the West Mexican Colima sculptural tradition and the Tuxcacuesco-Ortices sub-style, ca. 300 B.C. to 100 B.C. This seated figure's bulbous eyes are set below a criss-cross headdress, typical of the type, the straps of which are appliqued. The features of the face resemble the“dish face” variety of this sub-style. The neck is adorned with a necklace holding two ball-shaped pendants. The forearms display two bracelets each. The vessel rests upon the legs and is held with both hands. The sides ... moreof the pot are incised, resembling a pumpkin vessel. The upper lobe has a slightly flaring rim. The entire pot is hollow. There are few known blackware figures in the Colima culture, and this is an extremely rare example from the Late Preclassic period in West Mexico. Colima Bed Figure Pottery Ancient Artifact Pre-Columbian Mexico Mayan NR
Hi. I have an awesome Colima Bed Figure for auction. This authentic ancient artifact is in great condition. This figure has ear spools, headdress, and necklace. It has a pillow under it's head. This figure is bound to the bed which usually means that it was a medial patient. The straps were to hold them down while they were being operated on so that they couldn't move during surgery. Most bed figures just show the person reclining on their bed. There are many copies of ones similar to this that are given to Doctors. This one is the real deal. This great artifact date from 200BC-400AD. There appears to be an old repair to the back of this piece. It looks more like a crack stabilization, because the front shows no signs of cracks or repairs. This is a quality artifact. This is a great part of history, that now can be yours.
