PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR Very unusual authentic pottery head fragment that is difficult to identify as to the subject. It apprears ... moreto be an animal with a long snout. Some of which is missing, and the remains of two horns on the back of the head. Since it is wearing a rather ornate headdress it might be an zoomorphic representation of a Shaman but there is not enough of the figure to make any kind of distinction. The headress has the remains of red paint and there are pieces missing. The cheeks are puffed out, some of the figures have puffed heeks attributed to chewing of coca leaves but that is doubtful for an animal and possible or a Shaman. The clay color is mottled grayish tan. Some fine crystaline deposits evident in the clay. One cheek is depressed as it it were done before firing or collapsed after firing as it is not broken. There is a small firing hole at the top of the head and the head is hollow. It is 2 3/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches across the front. The base where it is broken is a circle 1 3/4 inches in diameter with a hole that is 3/4 inches in diameter. It will sit flat as it is in most of the photographs or will mount nicely. It was in a private collection from Eccuador with La Tolita and Jamacoaque fragments but since I am not an expert I cannot positively identify the culture or the exact age. These two cultures span from 300 B.C. to 1000 A.D. This is not a reproduction.

PRE COLUMBIAN ANIMAL HEADS ( TWO ) FRAGMENTS ECUADOR POTTERY AUTHENTIC
PRE COLUMBIAN ANIMAL HEAD FRAGMENTS ECUDAOR AUTHENTIC You are bidding on two( 2) Pre Columbian authentic animal head fragments from ancient Ecuador. The larger one in a beige color clay measures approximately 2 inches from ear to ear( if those are ears) and about 2 inches high. The clay has been spiraled around to look like ears but there is a piece in one remaining that is broken indicating something is missing. There is 1 tooth in the and you can see where 3 more have broken off. The eyes are open to the inside of the head that is hollow. he cheeks are depresed inward.I do not know what kind of animal this represents but hopefully it is not a pet as it would be a rather ugly dog. Also not everyone was an accomplished sculptor. It will mount straight up but sitting on the tabletop in the photos you can se it tilts as one side of the broken ... moreneck is high than the other. The other figure is in gray clay and is missing one ear. The other ear has a slight chip. It has a rather large intentional hole in the back of the head and of course it is broken at the neck. It is 2 1/4 inches from the ear to the nose and stands 2 3/8 inches high. The mouth is open giving it a rather pleasant expression. This could be a dog but it has a flat upturned pig like nose. Both pieces are from a priovate collection and most of the fragments were La Tolita 200 B.C. 500 A.D. and Jamacoaque 500 B.C TO 1000 A.D. but because of the subject it is difficult to put them in any one culture and I am not an expert in this type of pottery.

3 Larger Pre-Columbian Pottery Heads Ancient Artifacts Mayan NR
Hi. I have 3 nice ancient artifacts for auction. I purchased these ancient artifacts many years ago from an old collection. The Mayan dead on the right has a great headdress and ear spools. The Veracruz piece in the center has one ear spool missing. My favorite one of this group is on the left. He has great ear spools, hair detail, and some type of head ornament. It has a great patina that makes it look like stone, even feel like it. These would look great mounted with a display. These are nice pieces of history, that now can be yours. I use a half dollar for size comparison only and it is not included in this auction. I can combine shipping. Thanks for looking.
