This Pre-Columbian artifact vessel is a beautiful addition to any collection. The double spout and stirrup handle make it a unique piece, while the intricate ... moredesign and multi-color pottery material showcase the talent of Latin American culture. The narrow spouts were constructed to help prevent evaporation of liquid in the vessel. Wear is consistent with age and use. There are a few minor chips around the inside edge of the spouts from use. There are no cracks or restoration. Its authenticity as an original piece adds value and rarity to its already impressive qualities. This piece measures approximately 6.25” tall x 5.25” wide. Perfect for collectors of ethnographic and Latin American antiques.

GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. RARE POSS. MOCHE EROTIC CERAMIC STIRRUP - SPOUT VESSEL HUACO
Up for bids is this rare figural erotic stirrup-spout vessel. Possibly Moche(North Peru) culture, circa 500- 750 AD. I am not 100% sure this is a genuine ancient Moche pot, but I did the smell test by wetting the surface: the water disappeared quickly into the surface and it reeked very typically musky and earthy. Also it took about 3 days before the pottery was dry again. The m ale figure shows old crack repairs with bitumen or tar at his right leg. Right shoulder and side of his body. The left hand of the female figure similarly shows a bitumen/tar repair. I leave it to the connaisseurs and collectors of Pre-Columbian pottery to decide. I am offering this vessel at a low starting price. More pics can be sent per email on request. Dimensions: approx. 18. 5 x 15,5 x 10 cm. PRE COLUMBIAN MOCHE STIRRUP VESSEL WITH EROTIC SCENE 200 - 600 A.D.
Moche Stirrup Vessel Depicting an Erotic Scene Circa 200 A.D. to 600 A.D. Description: Atop this ancient vessel. A man and woman engage in exuberant sexual activity, intended for burial in tombs. What is so highly unusual about this particular piece, is that the female embracing her child against her chest. Such scenes might have been meant to evoke life's sensual pleasures in the hereafter. These intimate scenes also might represent the promise of fertility and renewal to come. Their directness seems startling, even by modern standards. Yet there is something timeless and eternal about them too; they remind us that the essentials of life continue no matter what other changes civilization might bring. Catalogue Notes: Moche erotic ceramics celebrate the wide scope of human sexual activity. On one level. These vessels evoke worldly pleasures ... morein all its variety, but their larger spiritual implications concern fertility and continuity of human life. Though the greater part of Moche ceramic art was intended for burial in tombs. Its themes celebrate the joys of life, the pleasures of senses. Powerfully explicit, Moche erotic vessels served a dual purpose, remembering the sensuality of this world and promising a renewal to come. Here, a man and woman resting on a cushioned mat engage in anal sex. If such scenes shock the modern viewer, it is perhaps because they refuse to blush in the face of life itself. In their presence, we are reminded that the fundamental activities of human existence are timeless and Universal. Period: Circa 200 A.D. to 600 A.D. Culture: Moche Culture. Northern Coast of Peru. Large pre columbian Chimu Llama Victim Stirrup vessel with T.L. test Document!!!
Great pottery of the Chimu culture in the form of a reclining llama victim; and good to see is the sign of the female llama by the butt. Who knows the importance of this animal knows why like llama ceramics were taken in another life. At this ceramic impressed me the fine workmanship of the details. You can even see the fine hooves and the great nose. There were probably some people no difference in value because of the makers of these ceramics, the female Llama has even put on a kind of throne, or is it a sacrificial stone? At the sink sits a small monkey. The stirrup was broken and is replaced, otherwise very nice. A beautiful illustration of probably the only and most valuable domestic animal of the Andean cultures. The knobs are probably eyes, pointing in the four cardinal directions, long before the Incas divided their kingdom in four directions! Pre Columbian reproduced Muisca terracotta pottery double bowl stirrup vessel
This is a really nicely created Pre a Columbian double Jar and spout stirrup vessel typical of Muisca Culture of Columbia. It was recreated in painstaking detail with patina and manganese deposits. I believe a series of Pre Columbian art pieces have been made in Britain and this is one of several I have purchased. Nicely done. Sits on two pottery rings. Great for the lower budget collector of pre Columbian artifacts and from a culture not typically seen online. Great eye catching decor. Muisca culture is from Columbia circa 5000C to 1500BC. Moche Jaguar Stirrup Vessel with Conch Shell Click on these links to view larger photos: 1- 2- 3- 4 Pre-Columbian. North Coast Peru, Moche III, ca. 300-400 CE. The jaguar symbolized power and might throughout the Pre-Columbian world. Warriors, rulers, hunters, and shamans alike associated themselves with this king of beasts, the largest and most powerful feline in the New World. The principal Moche god wears a headdress adorned with a jaguar head and paws and important mortals donned similar headdresses. A nocturnal animal, the jaguar sleeps in caves and dark places and creeps quietly in the forest, evoking great mystery. Oddly enough, few Moche artists would have actually scene jaguars as they are not indigenous to the coast. Jaguars prefer moist forest conditions. However, scholars believe that some cubs were transported over the mountains ... morefor Moche rituals and it is also possible that some jaguars wandered down the coast. The animated visage and exaggerated ears and paws suggest that the artist who created this vessel may not have been working to achieve naturalistic representation but rather to evoke the powerful symbolism of the jaguar. Juxtaposing the animal with a conch shell is characteristic of the Moche. Not only did the jaguar climb trees, it also swam in streams, and the Moche were quite taken with the jaguar's ability to swiftly move between one world and another. Minor surface wear. Bichrome finish appears excellent. Intact and near choice! 10"W x 8-1/4"H x 6"D PROVENANCE: Ex-Splendors of the World. ANCIENT MOCHE CULTURE - STIRRUP SPOUT VESSEL
DESCRIPTION: This exquisite tera cotta vessel has intricate paint and detail. Completely intact with great mineralization. Moche Culture 100 A.D. 800 A.D. The Moche civilization(also known as the Mochica) flourished along the northern coast and valleys of ancient Peru. In particular, in the Chicama and Trujillo Valleys, between 1 CE and 800 CE. The Moche state spread to eventually cover an area from the Huarmey Valley in the south to the Piura Valley in the north, and they even extended their influence as far afield as the Chincha Islands. Moche territory was divided linguistically by two separate but related languages: Muchic(spoken north of the Lambayeque Valley) and Quingan. The two areas also display slightly different artistic and architectural trends and so the Moche state may be better described as a loose confederacy rather than a ... moresingle, unified entity.
