This is a beautiful golden oak victorian bookcase circa 1880. The bookcase has 2 glass doors. 4 adjustable shelves, and 2 storage drawers at the base. The drawers have the nice original hardware including key eschusions and locks although there is no key. However the doors doesn't have the key eschusion but has the lock and the working key. The same key does not fit the doors and drawers. The bookcase is a nice size. It measures 70 1/2" tall, 36" wide, and is 13 1/2" deep at the top 12" deep at the shelves and 15" deep at the base. The original beveled mirror on the top backsplash is 10 1/2" x 6 1/2" oval and has a smoky appearance. There is nice trim around the doors. This is a great early Victorian walnut two piece bookcase. The bottom section is a two door glass bookcase with four adjustable shelves. The top half is a unique bookcase file storage section with three glass doors. Notice the unique horizontal files for storage on both side doors of this top section. On the brass hardware on this bookcase there is a patent date of Feb. 25th. 1858. This bookcase standing together measures 90" high, at the widest is 63" wide and the depth is 17" deep. What an outstanding piece of Victorian Walnut. I have had many that have suggested that this could of come out of a music room and the top was used to file sheet music. It's a really sweet cabinet. The glazing is pretty in an almost arched format, it carries it's age very well, the carv ed mouldings on the upper corners are very arts and crafts. For auction here we have a very pretty Victorian walnut inlaid pier cabinet dating to the latter 19th century. This fine example has a moulded edge top edge over a single glazed door enclosing shelves and flanked by ormolu mounts and string inlay and is raised on a plinth style base. The cabinet is in good condition for age being free from any worm or splits and comes ready for use. There is no working key unfortunately. Victorian Carved Solid Cherry Bookcase ca. 1860
This ca.1860 solid cherry carved bookcase was custom built for Daniel A. Kenney in Boston. MA. Mr. Kenney worked on the ironclad ship, the"USS Monitor" The"Battle of Hampton Roads" between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia, was the first engagement between ironclad vessels during the war for Southern Independence. There is a descriptive historical plaque of ownership inside on the right. The bookcase measures 65" tall with gallery, 19" deep by 51" wide. Notice the Jenny Lind dovetailing on the drawers. The arched glass in the doors is beveled. The intricate carving is flawless. The right door squeaks when opened. There are 2 one inch long discolortions and a third one that is 1/4" long on the right side without indentations. They just appear as thin dark lines. It has a burl walnut veneered top with drawer having molding and a carved grapes pull. Below are arched glass doors with locks and a key that operates both locks. At the case corners it has carvings and the case sits on a nicely molded base. There are six adjustable shelves inside with extra supports.
