Antoine Paris, flanked on each side of the central by a glass panel surmounted by original marble top with beveled edge. It has two adjustable glass shelfs and a mirror backing. Antoine Krieger. Born in Alsace on June 5, 1804, set up shop in the Faubourg Sainte-Antoine(the furniture-making district of Paris) in 1826 with his brother as Maison Krieger and was married there in 1829. The marriage of his two daughters, one in 1849 to the cabinet-maker Claude-Julien Cosse, and the other in 1853 to the merchant Henry Racault, increased his prosperity. He then formed a partnership with his sons-in-law one of whom was to retire in 1858 and the other in 1870. At that date, ... morethe furniture and tapestry-making establishment, situated at 76 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, was extended to include no. 74 of the same street. A grandson by marriage became one of the partners in 1880. On Krieger’s death in 1856, the company passed to his sons-in-law and became Cosse-Racault et Cie. Finally, after further name changes, it became Damon& Cie circa 1880, and moved to 74, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine. From 1870 to 1955, when it was struck off the register of commerce, the company remained a family affair, in the hands of the Damon family which descended from Antoine Krieger's wife. Antoine Krieger, who retired from the company in 1860, and his son-in-law Cosse, on their deaths, respectively in 1869 and 1883, left considerable property. Cosse had banked upon the transformation of Paris by Haussmann by constructing an apartment building situated on the boulevard Voltaire. The Maison Krieger won prizes at the Exposition des produits de l'Industrie in 1849 and in the Universal Exhibitions of 1851 and 1855. They are partially composed bookcases, the bases probably adjusted somewhat to give depth and effect to the overall presentation. While these are not museum quality untouched works for the collector, they are exceptional pieces for any decorator looking for a serious pair of absolutely gorgeous antique oak bookcases. With impressive turned reeded columns flanking each side of the bookcases, lifting a projecting and complex crown molding, the bookcases have incredible presence about them. Each shelf is adjustable. It has French or Flemish origins and is a neat compact size at 3ft 2 inches wide. It has the most striking carved detail throughout. Stunning, Pristine European Oak Bookcase, Late 19th/Early 20th Century, 6x7 ft
This bookcase belonged to my great grandfather who lived in Alsace and Germany around the turn of the century. It was brought over to the states in the 1940's by my aunt and uncle. The piece was just appraised. It was made somewhere between 1890-1920. Fair market value has been established at $3720. Though the actual value is between $5200 and $6500(see below) Here is more detail from the appraisal: The bookcase has 3 glass doors. There are rectangular wood inserts; the cornice overhangs and is triple molded and flat. The bookcase is a dark stained oak; the sides of the bookcase are paneled; the front sides of the bookcase have fluted Corinthian columns with 2 large relief scrolls. Above the doors are large relief scrolls which extend the width of the bookcase. The apron appears to be straight and the bottom is a flat molded bottom as ... moreopposed to feet and legs. The bookcase is classified as a"Continental" European bookcase. The wood inserts are astragal(wood or lead) and is a method of securing the glass. It is difficult to tell from the photos if the wood inserts have panes of glass or the inserts are"placed" on the glass. The bookcase is of an English style and would date C. 1890-1920. English furniture has both Germanic and Celtic strains. The bookcase is a larger reproduction of a mid-18th century English piece. The value for the triple bookcase would be between $5200.00 and $6500.00 in today's retail market. The market comparison approach to value was used which estimates value by comparison with properties sold in the relevant market. With adjustments made for all differences that affect value, such as differences in characteristics of value, in market layer, and in time. Antique Step Back Bookcase Cupboard 2 Drawers Dbl Casters 19th Century Two Doors
Hi. This wonderful bookcase needs just a little TLC to be an exceptional piece. The dark wood is gorgeous. My best guess is that is is probably a Civil War era piece or possibly earlier. The left door has a vertical latch on the bottom and the right door has a lock mechanism. I replaced the bottom left pane of glass with the existing nails and woodwork intact. Two supports for the fully adjustable shelves have been fashioned out of plywood and do not match the existing supports. One drawer handle is a little loose. The dovetails are hand cut. Not made by machine. The panels in the back could use some work. I did not snug the crown all the way down so the dowels will come out easily when sold, so I can't comment on how tight it is in the rear. The top panes of glass are the original wavy glass. Both bottom panes have been replaced. The ... moredimensions are 87 1/4 x 52 and 19 1/2 inches.deep.This is a beautiful looking piece of furniture. Don't miss out. This is complete and very old! Mid 19th Century Rare Carved Solid Oak Bookcase On Cupboards
Hi. This is a stunning old piece of furniture dating back to mid 19th century. As you can see it's been hand carved with lovely features all around it. It is made from oak so is very solid and heavy but comes in two so it's not to bad to move around. There's is signs of wear around this item as to be expected with age. Also as you can see on my photos there is one of the feet missing but still sits level. Could easily be replaced if need be. Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this bookcase is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this bookcase chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a bookcase with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by walnut of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this bookcase is just right and the bookcase benefits from having a good balance. Meaning that it“sits” well with a real“presence” Now we know everything on ebay is“fantastic” glorious” superb” brilliant” magnificent” greatest” resplendent” superior” etc etc but when we say this is a very good bookcase we mean it.
