The beautiful walnut bookcase sits on a base with two bottom burl walnut front drawers and a side compartment with a burl walnut paneled door. The bookcase is completely original including the ornate brass hardware with the exception of the right side glass pane has been replaced and the maple shelves are missing. Maple or pine shelves can be made to duplicate the original shelves with a rounded front edge and finished to match the interior of the bookcase. The original wooden shelf holder inserts are shown in a photo. The bookcase is extremely rare with the lower base design like you would see with a commode or secretary desk bookcase with the side compartment. The d i mensions are the following: The base is 43 1/4" wide x 18 3/4' deep. The top molding is 46" wide x 16 1/4" deep. The height is 77 1/4" or 6ft. 5 1/4" tall. The pins are intact. Supporting three adjustable shelves. Wavy glass. Paper label and ink-stamped production number are on the back. There is a push button knob on the right door. And a clever roller latch/ throw bolt system at the top/bottom of both doors. When the right door is opened, the left is simultaneously released. When the right door is shut it forces the throw bolts on the left door to extend into the wood frame at the top and bottom, securing both doors shut. Size: 31.5" wide. 11.25" deep, 47.5" tall on casters. Model 340. Most examples of this form I've seen are 34" wide, this one is 31.5" Great size for fitting in many spots within the home. Fine heavily carved oak 2 door French bookcase----14775
This is a superb oak French bookcase. Circa 1885. Some very fine carving all over this piece with leafs, berries, flowers, etc. in an overall organic motif. Sometimes called a hunt board by some dealers. Interior has been covered by the previous owner in reddish material; I have left it on as he looks nice but can be removed if you like. Three shelves are all movable on this two piece cabinet. Drawer pulls are carved integral to the drawer fronts. Note the bottom doors are different carvings from each other in heavy relief(shelf in bottom section) Carvings on this piece are in excellent condition with just the expected minor rub or loss. A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, solid mahogany, and stripped mahogany veneers, double door bookcase. The case has curved front corners carved with spiraling acanthus leaves. Large carved claw feet are on front. The case sides and the top board are solid mahogany. Each door has the original wavy glass panel, brass escutcheons, and the key(the two locks are missing their catch. each compartment holds three adjustable mahogany stained maple board shelves. It measures 56-1/4" tall by 54" wide by 15" deep, the shelves 11-1/4" deep. Excellent condition: beautiful original finish, no chips or cracks to mahogany boards, veneers without chips. There is a beveled glass mirror on the back crest, with two nicknack shelves spindle supported. There are four original oak adjustable shelves, one with plate groove. Doors include the original brass pull and lock, no key. The left glass door panel is original wavy, the right panel is new glass. Bookcase measures 6'4" 68" tall by 13-1/4" deep, the shelves 10-3/4" deep, by 3' 36" wide. Excellent condition: oak boards without chips or cracks, unworn original finish. A very nice antique. Circa 1840's, Empire mahogany stepback bookcase. Solid mahogany doors and sides. Two piece construction. The cornice has flame mahogany veneers. There are two glass pane doors, with ornamental Gothic arch tops, each door with eight glass panes. Six mahogany stained maple adjustable shelves and back boards. The drawer base has flame mahogany veneers on drawer, original mahogany knobs. The furniture measures 7'6" 89-1/2" tall by 4' 48" wide by 18" deep, the shelves 11" deep. Very good plus condition: original finish, doors with lock, no key. Six panes on one door are new glass replacements, the rest old wavy glass. Small veneer chip top front edge of drawer case. Drawer retains the lock.
