The side compartments are 20 inches wide and two shelves are behind each door. The center section is 31 inches wide and has three shelves. The overall condition is good. There are a few minor pieces of molding missing, one keyhole cover is missing, and is in good overall condition for being 130 years old. It has panel sides, carved columns, multi-molded edge on the breakfront and carved pillars. It is an impressive bookcase with a few minor issues. Antoine Paris, flanked on each side of the central by a glass panel surmounted by original marble top with beveled edge. It has two adjustable glass shelfs and a mirror backing. Antoine Krieger. Born in Alsace on June 5, 1804, set up shop in the Faubourg Sainte-Antoine(the furniture-making district of Paris) in 1826 with his brother as Maison Krieger and was married there in 1829. The marriage of his two daughters, one in 1849 to the cabinet-maker Claude-Julien Cosse, and the other in 1853 to the merchant Henry Racault, increased his prosperity. He then formed a partnership with his sons-in-law one of whom was to retire in 1858 and the other in 1870. At that date, ... morethe furniture and tapestry-making establishment, situated at 76 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, was extended to include no. 74 of the same street. A grandson by marriage became one of the partners in 1880. On Krieger’s death in 1856, the company passed to his sons-in-law and became Cosse-Racault et Cie. Lower cabinet doors open to reveal two shelves with old red velvet and the Druce and Co. nameplate. The upper cabinet features glazed and curved glass side panels and glazed doors and two adjustable shelves. Overall condition is good. Inside there are two removable and adjustable wooden shelves. The left door has two locks on the top and bottom edges inside to lock the door in place. The bookcase has two bottom drawers with simple iron drop handles and ornamental key plates. The left hand drawer is missing its drop handle. Offered here is a rare early Cast Iron Globe Wernicke bookcase knob. Which I believe is from the late 1800's and is possibly the earliest style used on their bookcases. Typically when I see these they were used two on each door, and often they are missing. I have one other matching one which I will offer to the winning bidder if they need it and we can do a buy-it now through eBay. The knob measures 1 1/16th" long by 5/8" wide and 9/16" tall.
