953 The Central door vitrine. Above a frieze applied with 24kt gold gilded bronze mountings, the interior door with brass label inscribed Mon. KRIEGER/A. Damon& Colin/74; fg S. Antoine Paris, flanked on each side of the central by a glass panel surmounted by original marble top with beveled edge. It has two adjustable glass shelfs and a mirror backing. Antoine Krieger. Born in Alsace on June 5, 1804, set up shop in the Faubourg Sainte-Antoine(the furniture-making district of Paris) in 1826 with his brother as Maison Krieger and was married there in 1829. The marriage of his two daughters, one in 1849 to the cabinet-maker Claude-Julien Cosse, and the other in 1853 to the merchant Henry Racault, increased his prosperity. He then formed a partnership with his sons-in-law one of whom was to retire in 1858 and the other in 1870. Antoine Krieger, who retired from the company in 1860, and his son-in-law Cosse, on their deaths, respectively in 1869 and 1883, left considerable property. Cosse had banked upon the transformation of Paris by Haussmann by constructing an apartment building situated on the boulevard Voltaire. The interior depth is 10.5 inches by 26 inches on both sides. The doors are the original beveled glass doors in excellent condition with no nicks or damage. The bookcase has brass inlay all around it as well as classical brass or bronze mounts around the crest of the bookcase. The wood is a clean original finish mahogany in excellent condition. It is truly a well made top quality bookcase in an excellent style and you wont find them much better ... morethen this. It is probably 1880s in age. Due to the size of this piece it either needs to be picked up here on Cape Cod or it must be shipped freight at the cost of the purchaser. Inspired by the designs of Boulle under Louis XIV, this ebonized mahogany cabinet features extensive ormolu bronze mounts and brass marquetry. Lower cabinet doors open to reveal two shelves with old red velvet and the Druce and Co. nameplate. The upper cabinet features glazed and curved glass side panels and glazed doors and two adjustable shelves. Overall condition is good. There is a crack with losses to the brass in the upper left section of the lower left door, and other minor cracks to the brasses. For your consideration is a French late Restauration gilt bronze mounted mahogany bookcase in good antique condition(1800's) h. 76" x w. 38 1/2" x d. 18" The interior is painted blue. And the back of cabinet is lined with worn striped fabric, possibly silk, of unknown origin and date. There is an approximate 1" hole routed in back of cabinet. Hardware is original: one rosette missing from top right cabinet door. Glass is intact. The mahogany is unrestored and in beautiful condition. The doors close, but not tightly as the key is missing and doors do not lock. This bookcase is purchased and authenticated from Bonhams auction house in Los Angeles. Carved Oak 1890's French Bookcase. Lion Heads& Old Wavy Glass. A masterfully hand carved bookcase or display cabinet from the 1890's has lion heads and deep moldings plus old wavy glass in the doors. Hand crafted in France of solid oak. The detailed fruit, vines and Renaissance motifs are sophisticated. The top of the base has been revarnished for durability. The rest of the finish is original and very well preserved. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the warm antique patina. The upper section is a separate piece. Shelves are adjustable but would need a length adjustment to fit in the center position, see photos. This is a superb quality french rose wood bookcase but could be used as a display cabinet. Showcase many different uses. The wood is a really amazing quality solid rosewood. This has been used as a TV cabinet they has the TV into the center. At some time it has been recovered inside with a fabric. this comes in several parts so I had to take the fabric out to dismantle the piece. It has 3 glass doors which open with a solid rosewood panel to the bottom. The center has 2 wooden shelves either side they have 3 shelves. This has many uses and also could have fabric put back inside to highlight any thing that is displayed inside. This was made in France circa 1890. There doesn't seem to be a makers label, but again the quality is superb. Measurements are 92 wide 92 high 18 deep.

This is a superb oak French bookcase. Circa 1885. Some very fine carving all over this piece with leafs, berries, flowers, etc. in an overall organic motif. Sometimes called a hunt board by some dealers. Interior has been covered by the previous owner in reddish material; I have left it on as he looks nice but can be removed if you like. Three shelves are all movable on this two piece cabinet. Drawer pulls are carved integral to the drawer fronts. Note the bottom doors are different carvings from each other in heavy relief(shelf in bottom section) Carvings on this piece are in excellent condition with just the expected minor rub or loss. They do not seem as old as 1870. There are also some age separations on the bottom panels of both doors which can be seen in the photos.
