They adjust via a wooden alligator bracket system as was common for pieces in this era. The base piece features a normal cabinet on the left side. The middle and right door open to reveal three pull out wooden slides as you would have found in a linen press. They were probably originally used for table linens. It does appear as though there used to be four slides and the top one is missing. The glass doors and right had door lock with an included key. It appears their locks were changed.
