This auction is for a wonderful antique corner what not shelf. It is Victorian. Was used to display fancy glassware etc. and from the mid to late 1800's. Made of a beautiful walnut, it is of a nice weight and is sturdy. It is about 60 inches tall. It is in very good condition for its age- it does have one piece of decorative trim that is missing on the upper left(see photos) This could be replaced or you could probably remove the decorative trim from both sides if you want to even it up. There is one small area of old scratches in the wood on the second to bottom shelf.see last picture) I consider this very minor. I believe it is the original finish and it is in great condition. Antique 1820 French Furniture
This piece was made from Italian walnut veneers in France in 1820. I believe it was originally an armoire and some time in its history was converted to a bookcase. The clothes bars are still in the case so it can be easily used as originally intended. The piece originally could be broken down into three pieces. The crown. The center section, and the base that includes a drawer. The pins that hold the pieces together have been glued to make the piece one unit. It makes it very stable and easy to move about. If so desired I'm sure a restoration professional could free the pins. There also were installed hidden metal brackets to support the crown which is unique and quite large. The shelves used for books in its current format are removable. The feet I would describe as bun feet.
