Maple or pine shelves can be made to duplicate the original shelves with a rounded front edge and finished to match the interior of the bookcase. The bookcase is extremely rare with the lower base design like you would see with a commode or secretary desk bookcase with the side compartment. Top of the piece had a section that was at one time covered in velvet(which is now dry) which was there originally, set back abot 3 inches away from the edge, all finished. Antique Italian Renaissance Bookcase Ornate Embellish
An absolutely stunning bookcase. This is over 100 years old and in amazing condition for the age. The original owner of this piece purchased it in Italy. It stands 69" high. Has a length of 73.25" and the inside depth is 14" This is constructed from oak and the panels are thinner than American made pieces. Each of the three doors are flanked by reeded columns with ornately carved tops. The doors have a pale green glass with wrought iron grates facing them off. The grate panels are diamond shaped with small roses on the points. The top of the case has a carved pediment that matches the trim on the base of the case. The shelves are not original to the piece. Being offered for sale is this Outstanding Victorian Renaissance Revival Tall Bookcase with Carved Pulls circa 1875. This 19th century bookcase has a commanding presence and features a fabulous carved crest. The original glass, adjustable shelves and beautiful carved pulls on the drawers. This bookcase measures 89 inches( 7 ft 5 in) in height from the floor to the top of the crest. 54 inches wide, 19 inches deep at the base and 12 inches deep front to back at the bookcase portion, and weighs approximately 150 lbs. This bookcase does disassemble into 4 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. The two adjustable shelves each measures 46 1/2 inches long by 8 1/2 inches wide. The lower cabinet doors feature stunning carvings depicting the hunt and fishing. The handles of the drawers are carved leaves. The upper and lower doors lock with included keys. The bookcase section houses two wooden shelves that are adjustable. ... moreThe bookcase is in two pieces for easier transporting. Overall the condition is very good and the bookcase is quite sturdy. There are several cosmetic age splits to the bookcase as you would expect from a solid wood piece of this age. The largest two are on the lower side panels and some smaller ones are present on the counter top and the upper right barley twist column. The left side crown also has some older damage to it(shown in pictures) These cosmetic issues add to the character of the bookcase and do not detract from it. It is functional and clean to go right into your home. This spectacular antique French Renaissance bookcase is breath taking! The upper interior shelves are 10.5" deep. Each shelf adjusts via an alligator bracket system. The doors have stunning carvings to them. The drawer handles are carved leaves. Here you can see the lovely carved crown of the bookcase. Here is a gorgeous solid walnut Empire Revival bookcase from about 1880. Only two shelves are shown in the photos. However, there are four removable/adjustable shelves. The lock sets are original in the door and drawers and there are two keys which both. Easy to transport and to break down and set up. This bookcase has the base, the crown and then, basically, a stack of wood to include the two glass doors. Therefore could use a good cleaning and a good wiping down with a good wood feeder conditioner to bring back the sheen and/or shine) For the two(2) side pieces ~ each contain 5 shelves that are 25 1/2" long x 12" deep(others could be made and used very easily) each side and center the shelves can be adjusted to whatever spacing is desired- some of the shelves and the back of the case in all three sections have been covered in a fabric to lighten the interior of the case to display the items I'm showing. The CENTER section has six(6) shelves and measure 23 1/2" long x 12" deep All wood is in great condition The VERY top pediment appears to be a GLOBE and BOOKS Its a Globe type design ... moresitting on a stack of books(there should be a wooden ring around the globe- the bottom section is there. A very finely made antique. Circa 1870's, Renaissance Revival bookcase, probably French made. The case has three compartments: center with one stationary removable shelf, the glass doored ones with each two removable stationary shelves. The interiors and the shelf surfaces are all in an original golden velvet. There are ormolu brass bandings and mounts to the exterior, four ebonized columns and six ebonized bun feet. The center door has a hand enamel painted and gilted porcelain plaque of Venus and Cupid. The bookcase is veneered in bandings of plain maple and tiger maple, and mahogany, inlays in mahogany. The top surface and center door have a dark olive-brown stained maple veneer. It measures 3'8" 42-1/2" tall by 6' 72" wide by 16" deep, the shelves 10" deep.
