This Victorian walnut/burl etegere is in great overall found condition. It appears that the finish/patina may be a good later one but is difficult for me to be sure about. I can determine no repairs or missing peices. It has five(5) size graduated shelves on each side.The grape cluster. Medallions and finials are original to the piece. The polished finish is original except for a re-varnished top. It is extremely fine with a little fading on the sides and minor mars at the edges. Mahogany wood has glowing antique patina. There is fine satinwood inlaid stringing. Glass panes have a wide bevel, locks are operational. Solid Mahogany inlaid triple bookcase Curvd glass c1900
Here is a wonderful solid mahogany bookcase with mother of pearl inlay along with satin wood. It is a triple bookcase with the two outer sections having flat panel glass and the center of attention focusing on the middle curved section. This section also has an incredible inlay in the bottom locking door and a beautiful claw foot. The back fancy board is still intact which adds so much to this case. It dates to the late 1890-1910 era and has its original finish which is outstanding. A good cleaning is all this beauty needs. I also have the original key attached to a silk gold material. All glass is original wavy glass which shows its true age. Again this is solid mahogany not a veneer. Inner shelves are adjustable. The bookcase measures 69 inches tall by 60 inches wide and is 16 inches deep at the curved glass and 14 at the ends. This is a beautiful golden oak victorian bookcase circa 1880. The bookcase has 2 glass doors. 4 adjustable shelves, and 2 storage drawers at the base. The drawers have the nice original hardware including key eschusions and locks although there is no key. However the doors doesn't have the key eschusion but has the lock and the working key. The same key does not fit the doors and drawers. The bookcase is a nice size. It measures 70 1/2" tall, 36" wide, and is 13 1/2" deep at the top 12" deep at the shelves and 15" deep at the base. The original beveled mirror on the top backsplash is 10 1/2" x 6 1/2" oval and has a smoky appearance. There is nice trim around the doors. Born in Alsace on June 5, 1804, set up shop in the Faubourg Sainte-Antoine(the furniture-making district of Paris) in 1826 with his brother as Maison Krieger and was married there in 1829. The marriage of his two daughters, one in 1849 to the cabinet-maker Claude-Julien Cosse, and the other in 1853 to the merchant Henry Racault, increased his prosperity. He then formed a partnership with his sons-in-law one of whom was to retire in 1858 and the other in 1870. Antoine Krieger, who retired from the company in 1860, and his son-in-law Cosse, on their deaths, respectively in 1869 and 1883, left considerable property. Cosse had banked upon the transformation of Paris by Haussmann by constructing an apartment building situated on the boulevard Voltaire. Made in Holland, Circa 1890, Oak, Hand carved, Beautiful patina, Corsica glass, Locking doors, Minor wear see description, Very sturdy, This hand carved bookcase was originally crafted in Holland around the year 1890. The wood used on this bookcase is oak which has developed a lovely patina over the years. The top section has Corsica glass in it which adds a unique look to the piece. Both top and bottom sections house one shelf each and there is a single drawer for storage. The entire bookcase is finely decorated with carvings ... moreof lions. Cherub heads, and floral decor. The lions heads at the top of the bookcase hold brass rings in their mouths, the lions on the bottom section do not. Both doors lock with included key. The drawer is fashioned with hand cut dovetails. Overall the bookcase is quite sturdy. There are a few minor flaws such as an age split on the right side and a repaired section of moulding at the top of the glass door. Besides minor wear consistent with age these are purely cosmetic issues and the piece is in very good shape. It does break down into top and bottom sections for easier transport. The relatively small width of this piece makes it ideal for filling smaller spaces in a variety of rooms. Plenty of storage space in this wonderful bookcase. The carving is beautifully done on this door at the bottom. The Corsica glass is unique and interesting. Here is the repaired moulding at the top of the glass. Late 19thC. Satiwood & MOP Inlaid Mahogany Bookcase Arched Doors & Paw Feet
This is an absolutely stunning piece of furniture in amazing condition for the age. This piece dates to the late 1800's. We do not know the maker of this piece or the origin. This bookcase stands 66 3/8" high and has a width at the top of 53.25" The width at the base is 55" The depth at the top is 15" and at the base it has a depth of 17" The main body of this where the books are held measures 51" w x 14" d x 57.75" h. The arched doors are flanked on the sides by 3/4 columns capped with ornate finnials. There are bands of string inlay decorating the fronts of the doors. There is a third finnial capped column between the two doors as well. Each column has beautiful designs made from satinwood and accented with mother of pearl inlay. This design is also seen above the doors. The sides have raised ... moretrim molding and the top has an inlaid stip around the front and side and dental inlaid molding beneath it. The base boasts stunning winged.Bracket paw feet. The back has bun feet. The inside has a depth of 12' and has four shelves. The original round pegs have been replaced with dowels. There are some losses to the trim molding on one side of this. There do not appear to be any losses to the inlaid areas. There is a small gap on the left side between the door and the center column. There are age and use associated surface scratches and dings. These are very minor and do not detract from the piece at all. This is a stunning bookcase that was obviously well cared for. With dragons supporting the cabinets, they have nicely carved crowns& faces on each corner top. and leaf design down the supports. The sides are curved glass in perfect condition.
