The bookcase comes in two sections.The top section has beveled glass doors that open up to three levels of shelves. Below that you have the carved turned columns that support the top section. The lower section starts with two drawers with brass pulls. Below that you have the two highly carved doors that open for more storage. We do have the keys that lock the doors. They were made in Europe sometime around 1890 of solid oak. Today they remain in excellent condition with only two minor cosmetic issues that have been pictured. There is a small break to one of the mouldings and an age separation on one of the side panels. The pair is strong and will last for many years. There are slight differences between the two bookcases ... morethat are hard to notice unless you are looking for them. The left bookcase is slightly darker than the right. The carvings are also slightly different in spots which we have tried to captivate in the photos. However. These differences serve to make the bookcases more a unique pair than separate them. Both the upper doors and lower doors on the bookcases lock and there are four keys included. The wooden shelves in the upper sections are adjustable and quite strong. The bookcases break down into two parts each(top and bottom) for easier transporting. This is a rare French Renaissance style pair antique bookcases in carved oak. Both bookcases open to reveal large storage areas with shelves. The alligator brackets provide strong. Versatile shelf support. These carved columns differ slightly but complement each other very well. Again these carvings differ slightly. But together they look complete. This close up shows the level of detail in the intricate door carvings. The oak wood has a lovely patina and the hand carvings are very well done. Antique French Carved Oak Brittany Bookcase Cabinet Cupboard 19th Cent
We are proud to offer a beautiful original French antique cabinet. Circa early to mid 1800s. Gorgeous and intricate carving. Original wavy glass. This is an imposing and substantial piece. It is in a top and bottom section. The bottom is 39 inches tall and 35 inches wide and 20 inches deep. The top shelves are 48 inches tall and 43 inches at the widest point(including molding) and 12 inches deep. Overall. It is 87 inches(7 feet, 3 inches) tall and 35 inches wide and 20 inches deep at its extremities. Condition is very good for a piece nearly 200 years old. In certain places you can still see the square-headed nails used in its construction. Of note: The bottom door is stable but can benefit from a re-hinging. There appears to have been a recent(in the last 20-30 years) attempt to re-hinge. Causing a chip in the wood. This can be readily repaired ... moreand we do have the missing chip that can be re-glued. There very top board(above the shelves) is missing. This is not evident unless you open the case and look inside and can be very easily remedied with a painted board. Two small strips of decorative molding at the base are missing(one is lost. The second has fallen off and can be re-applied) Again, given the small size and dark color, not something that is readily evident. The lock is a bit stubborn and might use some oiling. The table is extremely solid and heavy. There are 5 chairs, 4 side and one captains. The set is solid oak. The are pads to protect it at any size you have the table open to. There is a metal lever that releases the table to unlock it to put in the extensions. Measures 96" long with the(2) 20" extensions. And completely round without the extensions. These are a superb pair of carved oak bookcase very large.There are carved lions heads and figures to the top with three doors. The base is also heavily carved with lions heads two drawers with the original brass handles and dovetail joints. Below are two doors again with brass handles with carved center doors. They sit on three square solid oak feet to the front. Amazing quality they also come in two parts so they are easy to move. The cabinet is made from solid oak and finished to a beautiful medium/light oak color. The woodcarving is extensive throughout the entire piece. And very deep. This cabinet is in very good antique condition with only the usual minor chips, scratches, and a few old, inactive woodworm holes in the top crown(see photos) There are two keys and the locks work as they should. Note that the upper door glass is a recent replacement. Dimensions: 84" high. 38" wide and 21" deep. Beautifully carved, barley twist posts on upper ... moreand lower cabinets, ornate fruit, foliate, oak leaves, acorns and nut accents.the photos speak for themselves! Exquisitely carved crown with detailed figural Gothic face and carved fox on crown. Highly desirable carved arched cathedral style doors with old, wavy glass. Glass is in excellent condition with no breaks, chips or cracks. Original, adjustable shelves in upper cabinet/bookcase for display. We rarely find such detail. Beautiful lower cabinet doors with carved shotgun, pheasant, fox, duck and fish in the desirable"Hunt" style. Very detailed carving with fishing nets and fish baskets! Lower cabinet has large hand-cut, dovetailed drawer with beautifully carved wood pull. Beautiful raised panel sides. This piece has the highly desirable darker oak patina. Two original keys for upper and lower cabinets are included. The key in the lower cabinet is stuck in the door. On the bright side, you don't have to worry about losing it. We have not attempted to remove it, but I'm sure it could be. There is a minor repair on the corner of the right side skirt as shown in last photo.
