TALL 1890S SOLID & BURLED WALNUT BOOKCASE CABINET WARDROBE CARVED GLASS DOORS
Here is a fine very late 19th century mostly solid walnut and very tall at 8 and 1/2 feet bookcase. I love the simple architectural features of the carved arches over each glass door which combines the look of solid walnut and It would be fantastic in a library setting or even as a display cabinet as working locksets are being replaced as I write this so both doors will easily lock. It is perfect for the room a the top of a narrow stairwell as it dismantles and sets up very easily. The base with the two drawers is the first level to set up. This base section retains the original porcelain castors. Each of the side panels is screwed to a rear panel. It is easiest to handle these steps like this. Add one side and then the other. Then the center piece for the shelves slips in. Add the shelves and the front center piece to Which each of the doors ... morewill lock. Add the crown and then it is time to hang the doors. The left door top hinge has been moved to a lower point on the door at some point. This is shown close up in the photos. The"silver" pieces which show up on the doors and on the center section have been removed and appropriate lock sets are being installed with working keys. The top of the cabinet with the glass doors will be fully lockable. The rear boards are solid pine and many are straight sawn.all of the secondary is pine. It has a burl walnut veneered top with drawer having molding and a carved grapes pull. Below are arched glass doors with locks and a key that operates both locks. At the case corners it has carvings and the case sits on a nicely molded base. There are six adjustable shelves inside with extra supports. Measurements: Height: 51-1/2” overall Width: 48” at top Width: 51” at base Depth: 16” at top Depth: 18” at base Doors: 20” x 36” Inside Depth: 11” Drawer Front: 41-1/4” x 4-1/2” Condition: there is some typical fracturing of the burl along the border at the top from age and nature of material. TALL GORGEOUS 8' ANTIQUE WALNUT WOOD BOOKCASE CABINET GLASS DOORS CARVED SHELL
Here is a gorgeous solid walnut Empire Revival bookcase from about 1880. Only two shelves are shown in the photos. However, there are four removable/adjustable shelves. The lock sets are original in the door and drawers and there are two keys which fit both. Easy to transport and to break down and set up. This bookcase has the base, the crown and then, basically, a stack of wood to include the two glass doors. Height to the top = 92" Height to top of base = 16 3/4" Depth at base = 20 1/2" Depth at center of bookcase = 13 1/2" Width at the top = 57" Width at base = 51" This beautiful and unusual bookcase came out of a well known estate here in Charleston. It is in ready to use condition.and in antique condition. The hinges are original and the screws to attach to case piece are replaced and those on the doors ... moreare original. There is a repair on the front left hand corner of the base.the ledge that hangs over 6 1/2" There are a few very old veneer repairs. There are three bookcase doors over two drawers and a doored compartment with beautiful carved leafy rosette. The original wavy glass door panels open to three interiors with eleven adjustable walnut fronted maple shelves. The doors retain their locks, the original door handles with escutcheon removed and replaced with round brass knobs. The bottom drawers retain the fancy brass pulls with lock and escutcheon.
