A very nice antique. Circa 1840's, Empire mahogany stepback bookcase. Solid mahogany doors and sides. Two piece construction. The cornice has flame mahogany veneers. There are two glass pane doors, with ornamental Gothic arch tops, each door with eight glass panes. Six mahogany stained maple adjustable shelves and back boards. The drawer base has flame mahogany veneers on drawer, original mahogany knobs. The furniture measures 7'6" 89-1/2" tall by 4' 48" wide by 18" deep, the shelves 11" deep. Very good plus condition: original finish, doors with lock, no key. Six panes on one door are new glass replacements, the rest old wavy glass. Small veneer chip top front edge of drawer case. Drawer retains the lock.

For your consideration, this handsome Early Victorian Empire Tall Original Finish Step-back Flame Mahogany Bookcase Gothic Bookcase with 2 Drawer Base(Circa: 1850) This very substantial Bookcase has a total weight of approximately 140 pounds and measures 91” in total height(from the floor to the top of crown) 52” in width(crown) 48 ¼” in width(body) and 19” in depth. The dimensions of each of the four adjustable, removable, shelves are 46 ¼” in length by 10” in depth. Elegant and lovely details are found on this fabulous Victorian Empire Gothic Bookcase. Moreover, the material, construction, and design details on this piece are very much orchestrated in the school of Thomas Day. Glass is in excellent condition with no breaks, chips or cracks. Original, adjustable shelves in upper cabinet/bookcase for display. We rarely find such detail. Beautiful lower cabinet doors with carved shotgun, pheasant, fox, duck and fish in the desirable"Hunt" style. Very detailed carving with fishing nets and fish baskets! Lower cabinet has large hand-cut, dovetailed drawer with beautifully carved wood pull. Beautiful raised panel sides. This piece has the highly desirable darker oak patina. Two original keys for upper and lower cabinets are included. The key in the lower cabinet is stuck in the door. On the bright side, you don't have to worry about losing it. We have not attempted to remove it, but I'm sure it could be. There is a minor repair on the corner of the right side skirt as shown in last photo.
