Antique Marked Danner Mahogany Revolving Bookcase
Highly sought after original Danner revolving bookcase in its original mahogany finish. Condition is good. Perhaps better. THe spindles are all attached and very good. The top of the bookcase has two wood separations, as shown, otherwise, this bookcase would be very good. Still very functional-turns properly. Original casters, etc. Some of the inside shelves have stain marks from old stains, etc but overall, a very nice representation of a Victorian Danner piece. Folks, We have had many Danner Revolving Bookcases over the years. But this treasure appears to be one of the earliest made, 1870's-1880's. This solid tiger oak piece is signed with the stenciled"Danner Trade Mark" AND.under the bottom section there is a partial. But legible oval paper label that reads"Paine Furniture Company" The Paine Furniture Company was founded in Boston in 1835! They were a manufacturer. But by 1872 they also retailed other fine furniture from other companies(Danner was one) This bookcase has large and very fancy hobnails that I've only seen once before.possibly a special order from the Paine Furniture Company. Overall dimensions are 18 1/2" x 18 1/2" by 45" high. Each of the twelve bookcase sections measure 9 1/2" wide. 7 1/2" deep and 11 3/4" high. With ... morethe push of a finger. There are pieces that have been re-glued and replaced on this. This piece stands 44 7/8" high. The top is 20 1/8" square and the base is 19" wide. The height of the space between the shelves measures as follows from top to bottom: 10 1/16" 10 1/8" 12.25" This is an antique piece that has been restored. The finish is smooth and shiny and there are no surface scratches on this. There are some age and use appropriate dings under the finish that give this piece great character.
