I think the wood could be walnut the more I look at it in this dark finish. The overall size is 21 inches square and 35 inches high overall. Each section is 10 inches wide, 7 inches deep, 11 inches high and 12 inches high on the bottom shelf. It is missing a few of the brass tacks, but overall it is complete. The top half is a unique bookcase file storage section with three glass doors. Notice the unique horizontal files for storage on both side doors of this top section. On the brass hardware on this bookcase there is a patent date of Feb. 25th. 1858. This bookcase standing together measures 90" high, at the widest is 63" wide and the depth is 17" deep. What an outstanding piece of Victorian Walnut. I have had many that have suggested that this could of come out of a music room and the top was used to file sheet music. Here for auction we have a rare Victorian walnut bureau bookcase of narrow proportions in the Queen Anne manner dating to the second half of the 19th century. This stunning example in keeping with traditional design has an arched cornice over a single mirrored door enclosing adjustable shelves along with drawers and pigeon holes as well as an oak sliding candle tray. The bureau base has a fall down front enclosing further drawers supported by pull out lopers with a bank of graduating drawers being raised on bracket feet. This auction is for a wonderful antique corner what not shelf. It is Victorian. Was used to display fancy glassware etc. and from the mid to late 1800's. Made of a beautiful walnut, it is of a nice weight and is sturdy. It is about 60 inches tall. It is in very good condition for its age- it does have one piece of decorative trim that is missing on the upper left(see photos) This could be replaced or you could probably remove the decorative trim from both sides if you want to even it up. There is one small area of old scratches in the wood on the second to bottom shelf.see last picture) I consider this very minor. I believe it is the original finish and it is in great condition. As it closes poorly and the lock won't match up[its off about 3/32 or less] properly. 4 shelves[original] and original hardware too. There are some issues with the finish on the top of the case[showing a degree of"alligatoring" but I am loathe to disturb antique finishes myself, preferring someone more qualified to make things right. This beautiful spade scrolled center crown is adorned with incised carvings. A large carved rosette roundel in the center that is flanked on each side with raised burl panel accents and smaller rosette roundels. Lovely raised triangular-shaped panels and small rosette roundels adorn the top area above the geometric shaped glass doors. You will note that there are four individual panes of glass that make-up these two doors and there is a small crack in the left top corner of the lower right pane. We chose not to replace this pane because the glass is original to the piece and it does not impact the structural integrity or the beauty- it simply adds character. The two lower panes are original whereas the two upper panes may have been replaced at some point in time. Each of the lovely bookcase doors are adorned with picture-frame moulding.
