The side compartments are 20 inches wide and two shelves are behind each door. The center section is 31 inches wide and has three shelves. The overall condition is good. There are a few minor pieces of molding missing, one keyhole cover is missing, and is in good overall condition for being 130 years old. It has panel sides, carved columns, multi-molded edge on the breakfront and carved pillars. It is an impressive bookcase with a few minor issues. i just purchased another horner bookcase at over twice the price i am starting this one. i do not have room for both. But if this one does not sell, i guess i will have to put one on the porch. my house is full. anyway, for auction is a fabulous r j horner solid mahogany three door bookcase with mahogany shelves original to the piece. it has two fierce griffin at either end of the bookcase and three griffin head situated at the center and above each door. these heads are part of the finely carved freize near the top of the bookcase. it has wonderful molding along the top and below the carving and sits on finely carved feet. it is 6 feet wide over 65 inches tall without casters and 15 inches deep at the widest part at the griffins nose. it has the original key and all the door locks function perfectly. all original and no defects or issues ... moreto report. a hard to find bookcase. the pictures i have taken are terrible and do not do the piece justice and do not show the intricate and detailed carving as it should. sorry, i just can't seem to take a picture worth a flip. it can be picked up at my home or shipped. shipping expense is the buyers responsiblity. i would be glad to facilitate shipment or help in anyway in that regard or you can arrange it for yourself. good luck. ps. the buy it now price is 1500 less than one exactly like it sold for about one year ago on live auction not to mention the 18 percent buyers premium which made it almost 9500. This is an exceptional great walnut bookcase in original finish. This double door bookcase has raised beveled panels and shaped windows in the frames. The crest has a nice turned finial with fine carving. This wonderful crest will come off when moving. The drawers have dovetailed joints. The shelves are trimmed with walnut the secondary wood is a pine. Definitely made in the American Victorian Renaissance Style or the Circa 1870's. A very fine antique. Circa 1880's, simple Eastlake style solid walnut two door bookcase over two drawer base. One piece construction. There are four walnut fronted maple adjustable shelves, the interior back boards also of maple. The panels on the two drawers, and the cornice panel, are burl walnut veneer. The doors retain the original wavy glass panels, and the lock. The drawers have their locks and original hardware. The sides of the walnut case are recessed panels. It is on iron casters. The furniture measures 81" tall by 45-1/2" wide by 16-1/2" the shelves 10-1/2 deep. Excellent condition: original finish, walnut boards without chip or cracks, burl veneer complete. Both glass panels without damage.

This is a superb oak French bookcase. Circa 1885. Some very fine carving all over this piece with leafs, berries, flowers, etc. in an overall organic motif. Sometimes called a hunt board by some dealers. Interior has been covered by the previous owner in reddish material; I have left it on as he looks nice but can be removed if you like. Three shelves are all movable on this two piece cabinet. Drawer pulls are carved integral to the drawer fronts. Note the bottom doors are different carvings from each other in heavy relief(shelf in bottom section) Carvings on this piece are in excellent condition with just the expected minor rub or loss. The drawers and doors function perfectly and the entire unit is stable and sturdy. We do believe that the shelves and glass have been added/replaced since the piece was made. They do not seem as old as 1870. There are also some age separations on the bottom panels of both doors which can be seen in the photos.
