It is in the original old dark ... morereddish brown stain finish. This has four glass doors and plenty of space for books. The overall size is 78 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 60 inches high. The side compartments are 20 inches wide and two shelves are behind each door. The center section is 31 inches wide and has three shelves. The overall condition is good. There are a few minor pieces of molding missing, one keyhole cover is missing, and is in good overall condition for being 130 years old. It has panel sides, carved columns, multi-molded edge on the breakfront and carved pillars. It is an impressive bookcase with a few minor issues. This grand library bookcase has marvelous spiral columns, plus high relief panels with"music" and"architecture" motifs. Doors have old wavy glass on this furniture from the alpine area of southern Germany and eastern France. Often called"Black Forest" design. Solid Mahogany Empire Library Bookcase
This antique Empire library cabinet/ bookcase would make a beautiful addition to your home or office! It has been dated as early as 1880 to as late as 1910. It's roomy interior has eight shelves that can be used to hold your favorite books or collectibles. There are 6 adjustable shelves and the bottom shelves. It is made of solid ribbon mahogany. The cabinet has it's original wooden back(with some restoration) and original wavy glass in the doors. The cabinet has a key. But it is recommended that it isn't used to lock the cabinet doors regularly as they are a bit tight to lock. This stunning piece has been restored and refinished with a hand rubbed wax finish leaving the wonderful patina and gorgeous original wood tones. I can provide additional pictures if needed. Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this bookcase is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this bookcase chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a bookcase with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by walnut of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this bookcase is just right and the bookcase benefits from having a good balance.
