A 19th century primitive pine blanket box with bootjack ends. It measures approximately 23-1/4" tall. 48" wide, and about 20-3/8" deep. We believe it is American and we do not know the maker. It almost appears to have been constructed of old flooring. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use, including plenty of dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. The entire surface has been refinished and the hinges have been replaced. We do not have the key. Overall. The structural integrity is good with no major problems. This is a fascinating and unique piece with very interesting Chevron carved moldings flanking each its right and left side columns with a reticulated carved base dental worked molding on bracket feet. This chest started its life with a paint finish. It was very nicely refinished to its present golden amber honey finish around the turn of the 20th century. Its interior is still detailed by a cream colored finish. This is a very attractive and high quality piece with pronounced intermediary moldings.
