Mansion Sale: Large Antique 19th Century Oak Chest Coffer Mule Trunk Box Storage
Last year. April-June, I made a lot of eBayers very happy! I held a big sale of antique paintings and other items(over 100! from a large London mansion. Enthusiastic buyers won LOTS of wonderful family heirlooms for very little(see my 100% feedback! and came to pick them up from the house(a few minutes walk from London's Oxford Circus) I'd intended to move out and spent the rest of the year abroad. I'm now back in the UK and the place is(contrary to planning) still mine! So I'm back in the old house again, temporarily, and will be selling a few more things until my final move. Storage Chest/Trunk/Box"A grand old chest! ... moreFor years this has been a magical dressing up box! It's full of lots of antique costumes and accessories. Younger relations head straight for it when they visit! But it would be good as a blanket box or general storage. It's very tall and has a huge amount of space. It looks a bit more impressive than many similar items. Having some grand trimmings, almost armorial. The carvings on the front are very imposing and clearly of some age. This type of carving often surrounded a coat of arms, which may have been removed in years gone by. It also has some lovely brass lion's feet(which really need shining up…they'll look really good when polished! We believe the front of the chest is much old than the rest. It's not uncommon to have wooden furniture rebuilt over the years. Often when they suffer from woodworm or general wear. One of the four rosettes on the front isn't there(I've only just noticed this, after all these years! It's dark wood, so you don't really notice. This is a very clean large oak trunk that has a variety of uses such as a blanket chest. Toy chest, or wonderful coffee table. It is made of solid oak with the original finish that has a nice patina and is finished on all sides including the back. The inside of the trunk has been painted red but can be stripped back to the natural oak. The trunk is 48" wide, 22" deep, and 24 1/2" tall. There is a piano hinge that opens the top. There is a lock but I do not have the key. The trunk was originally on rollers. One of the blocks under the trunk that holds the roller insert is damaged but is easily repairable if rollers are prefered. Email with any questions. Old Iron Lock & Key for Antique Pine/Oak Blanket Box/Chest/Trunk/Coffer
Here for sale is an old iron lock with its original working key suitable to use on an old pine blanket box or trunk. It measures 3 1/2 inches wide. 2 1/2 inches high and 3/4 inch depth. The measurement from the top face to the centre of the key is 1 1/4 inch. The key measures 2 5/8 inches long. The main body of the lock housing the workings is 7/16 inch thick. The top face is 3/4 inch. Please note. The receiver isn't the original to the lock. It fits fine but when locked it doesn't lock tight. I have taked a picture of it upside down to show the small gap when locked.

Antique Oak Chest or Trunk c. 1800's Country Folk Primitives
Wonderful antique oak trunk or chest. Six-sided construction with molding around the bottom. Overhanging top has a raised panel inside a frame made using mortise and tenon joints. A small smooth notch has been carved into the front to allow the user to lower the lid without crushing their fingers. Sturdy wrap-around hinges hold the lid in place and interior corner-braces help keep the trunk solid. A more recent looking chain is also attached between the trunk body and lid. This piece has a ton of character and has definitely been put to use during its time. Probably dates from the mid to late 1800's Although it has some obvious wear. Including dents and dings, paint marks and other cosmetic damage, the piece is in very good condition. The entire trunk stands 17.5" tall. It is 19 1/4" wide and 31.5" long. This antique two-drawer chest has tons of character. The wood looks like oak and has been painted black on the sides and around the drawers on the front. Panelled sides and an overhanging molded top as well as molding at the base. Drawers have intricately designed metal pulls and there are circular wooden escutcheons surrounding the two keyholes. Sorry. No keys! The drawers have been assembled with strong doweled joints. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. The front corners of the overhanging top have broken away and there is also damage to the framing of the drawer fronts on both sides. Paint and finishes look original, but have some significant wear to them. There are also some small holes in the top that look like they were made by nails. The piece has three drawers with silver plated brass handles. The bottom of which contains a silver plate ink well and compartments. The oak body is finished in a very fine shellac which is in exceptional condition throughout. The doors and top of the piece are adorned with shield shaped bosses. Drop front opening with old lock mechanism and two lower drawers, circa 1830's-1840's, is a rare and wonderful find purchased at an antiques fair in Lyons, France and imported to Charleston,SC by my consignor about 12 years ago and she is now ready to let it go to that right buyer with a special place just for this beauty. Here is a beautiful rare trunk/chest it has two metals handles at either side which is unusual. It comes with it's original key and the lock works very well. This is a very old trunk lined with either Japanese or Chinese old newspapers( any help or information on the newspaper inside and what it says would be appreciated) then there is a hessian lining on top of that. The interior is lined with what looks like pine. It has oak banding and nice ornate brass catches. The lock is very nice and unusual as you can see in the photo it is very ornate and is a double lock. The exterior is lined with some sort of metal overall is in very good condition for its age. This is a beautiful piece of furniture for any home perfect for a coffee table or secure storage box because it has the key. This is an Antique ca.1885 Solid Oak R. Bliss. Pawtucket, R. I. three drawer Machinist tool chest. The R. Bliss Mfg. Co. was founded by Rufus Bliss in 1832. It is larger than most machinist chests, at 24"x 14.5"x 12.5"tall and weighs 25 lbs. It has an English made steel lock with working key and brass hardwear. There is a device that locks the drawers when the lid is closed. The end panels are walnut with cast-iron decorative lifting handles. There is a Bliss imprint on the bottom. The top compartment and the three drawers have been relined with dark green felt. Look carefully at the photos. No returns. For Sale is a Stunning Victorian Solid Oak Chest of Drawers which has been scaled down either as an Apprentice Piece or considering the quality of the workmanship. A Salesman's Sample. The Chest measures 10 inches wide. 8 inches tall, with a depth of 6 inches. This heavy piece is almost certainly a Scottish example of a Scottish style of period furniture making. Everything on this piece is in its original condition and dates from 1840 to 1860. The three drawers are hand constructed and run on individual rails with their original turned metal and wooden handles and tiny metal escutcheons. The four'bun' feet are original and still tightly attached. The front of the chest is decorated with a pair of classically designed. Carved wooden pillars with deeply engraved geometric lines. The top of the piece is its crowning glory. Cut and ... moreturned to incredible perfection. This slab of oak has the exact look of its larger, contemporary cousins. The rich. Time earned colours and patina, and the quality of the build, make this one of the best examples of its type. The Chest is constructed from solid oak with pine being used for the drawer interior and runners. The condition of this piece is out of this world. This is maybe the first time it has seen the market in 150 years. There is an old nick out of the top slab but to be honest it is in character with the look of a period piece and in no way detracts. The chest is in great physical shape with no splits. Cracks, splints, scratches, drooping, wobbliness or restoration. To be honest it looks even better in real life than the camera can capture. This auction is for quite a rare item- an ARMY NAVY C.S.L. makers letter box. Or a small campaign chest. The chest is made of a beautifully patinated oak wood. It has 2 side handles. There are 3 cubby holes on top, 2 drawers under, bottom left- a letter holder& bottom right 2 mail slots with an additional drawer under. The chest is ivorine marked Army Navy C.S.L. makers on the bottom center interior. There is also an ivorine tag for unpaid bills. There were 2 others, marking all the cubbies, but there is only one loose that was saved and could be re-applied. The Army and Navy Co-operative Society Ltd was formed by a group of army and navy officers in 1871. With the intention to supply“articles of domestic consumption and general use to its members at the lowest rates” The first store opened on the 15th February 1872 in Victoria Street, ... moreLondon and supplied shotguns, rifles, pistols, ammunition and related accessories, as well as shirts, watches, saddlery and golfing equipment. The chest measures 22 1/4" Long x 10 5/8" High x 13 3/4" Deep. It is heavily trimmed with shale tooth ivory. The wood chest looks to be oak. The bottom looks to be maple. There are 3 brass plates on the top. The outer 2 have latitude and longitude lines with some continents depicted. The middle rectangular plate is inscribed'Property Captain F. Smith Bark Ohio New Bedford' Some of the ivory trim pieces are cracked and/or part of it missing. The bottom has a large split in it. Please see pictures. Also the key and lock are missing. I have owned this beautiful chest for 55 years and have not been as kind as it deserved. I have stored everything imaginable in it and have stained the tray with artist supplies. It measures 34" long and 21 1/2" wide. It goes from 23 to 27 1/2" High at the hump. I am in a five floor walk up which means two strong people to carry it down. This small box or casket has the appearance of being specially made by an artisan to accommodate an item or items of importance and value which needed security and protective handling. The brass mounts would have provided protection for the casket from damage and the lock could be original to this item. The trenching within the interior indicated that there was a former division for the contents but there is no ghosting or wear to indicate what the contents may have consisted of. This lovely old chest is in good condition for being more than 100 years old. It has some splits in the wood top and bottom that are typical for a chest this old and give it some character. Antique 1838 Wooden Domed Top Oak Immigrant Trunk Sea Chest Heart Iron Straps
This is one beautiful antique oak trunk that has a date of 1838 but I think it might be older like the late 18th century just not sure. It measures 47 1/2" wide 23 1/2" deep at top. 20 3/4" deep at bottom and 28" tall not including wheels. This trunk is in Excellent condition for its age but there is a crack in side and a piece of trim missing on side also looks like a piece of an iron strap is missing at the open lid handle also someone added wheels a long time ago. The name ANNA CATRIENA JLSABEIN LANDWEHR 1838 is on the front. The iron straps are thick with a rare heart cut out design. The bottom trim has old paint hard to see looks like red and white stripes I think. Construction was done with wooden pegs and the bottom is held together with wooden dowels. Wow can you believe I have the original key and the lock still ... moreworks. I think the trunk is German but don't see and maker name. The photos do not show the beauty of this antique chest. Antique Oak Chest of Drawers / Hi-Boy with hat / bonnet door.
In original finish and in excellent condition. This is a 1800's oak chest of drawers. All the drawers are dove tailed. The upper two smaller drawers and the hat/ bonnet box are double serpentine. All the drawers have the original locks. I do not have the key but am trying to find one that will work. It is very sturdy. The drawer bottoms are all good. And all the drawers. And the door, work perfectly.
