The wheels on the bottom work great. The label, handles and strap holders are very nice. The LV hardware is gorgeous!! It measures approx. 44" x 21 3/4" x 13" high. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Working Lock and Key
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a lovely refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 13 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This nice trunk consists of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include nicks and dings mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards. And a couple of hairline stress cracks in the base wood. This one comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front two latches are original and do work properly since the ... moresprings are intact. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have there been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles were missing. Someone had drilled small holes in the wood and run rope through these holes to make handles for this trunk. They were rather lousy looking, so we have removed those handles and installed a pair of nice Amish made black leather stitched handles where these rope ones were. These handles are sturdy. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining which was worn out looking and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. A nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian woman standing in a boat on a pond has been added to the underside of the top. The exterior bottom has normal wear and we have finished the bottom to make it overall cleaner. This trunk could be used as a low coffee table, tv/stereo stand, and/or a storage chest anywhere in your home where storage space is needed. This trunk is in fairly good overall condition. I am not positive as to when this was made but the hardware is classic late 1800s hardware that i commonly see on a trunk like this. The insert here is really what stood out to me it is in very good condition. In fact probably the best trunk insert I have ever seen that was in original condition and not restored. The left side of the trunk on the exterior near the top rim there is a dent with a small hole where something hit the trunk it looks like. Nice Antique Paper Litho Doll Trunk - ABC Alphabet & Children
This auction is for a beautiful antique ABC Paper Litho Doll Trunk with the Alphabet and Children playing and it is older than the hills. It measures 14" long x 8 1/4" wide and it is 9" tall. It still has its two leather handles( one on each end) and it is in well worn condition but even so it has the most wonderful look to it. It has paper loss and paper wear- it is tarnished around the hardware and the metal trim. It has gouges, rips, dents, tears, scratches, dings, soil spots, lifting paper, cracks, splits, etc. in other words age appropriate wear and tear- and it still displays really well. It is a fantastic early collectible doll trunk and it is one of those antiques that just keeps on getting better and better with age. It is a great find and a beautiful piece of the past as well. Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. Short Trunk Lock, spring-loaded, Nice Patina, with key and screws
I bought these brass plated locks when I was building replica steamer trunks in the early 1970s. They have a natural aged patina. The lock in the photo is typical. The locks in my inventory are the same age so the patina is pretty constant. The one you receive will be this one or a very similar lock. I will include wood screws with brass painted heads to use to install the lock; pre-drill 1/2" deep with 1/8" drill with these wood screws.

Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Two Original Interior Trays Here is an absolutely beautiful fancy refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. If you have been waiting for the magnificent trunk with a tremendous amount of hardware. Then this one is definitely the one for you. It is hard for us to find trunks throughout the year that are really nice like this one. Here are the trunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 22 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This beauty is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older ... moredistress marks which include nicks and dings in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these older character marks or distress marks, most of which have accumulated over time. The edge banding on the sides of this trunk is made up of some type of composition. It has some typical small splits or stress cracks in it, one of which we have shown in a close up picture so there won't be any surprises. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, therefore we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker went all out and put lots of fancy hardware on this trunk. This beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. Look at the close up picture and you will see it is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn" We have matched up a key for you that does work properly with this lock. This trunk originally came with leather straps with buckles. very nice antique carriage travel trunk chest brass tacks 1827
Selling this old travel trunk/chest that I have refinished. The trunk is covered with old brass tacks. The top has a design that resembles a football along with the letters I.W. Prior to refurbishing the chest was covered in deerhide and the brass tacks shown. The interior had newspaper dated 1827. Prior to staining the wood had an almost white color to it. As a result. The Early American Minwax stain looks great on it. The trunk was treated with three coats of polyuerothane. The handles are original as is the lock. There is no key. I add the stays to the trunk. This listing is for what i believe to be a miniature humpback trunk for dolls. I have seen others listed as salesmen's samples. I don't know the difference. So, you be the judge. it seems to be in really good shape for it's age. please look at all the photos and ask questions. it measures 12" wide 8 7/8" deep and 10 1/4" tall, including the hump. It looks like a child used a crayon on the inside. Both leather handles are present. Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Civil War Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and a hidden compartment in the top of lid. My husband and I have refinished over 130 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished Civil War trunk with a small amount of a dome in the top of lid. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Attached to the lid of this trunk we applied two new chain stays so it will remain opened when wanted. On the inside of th e lid you will find a secret compartment. It folds down so you can store small things in there. Working the way down to the b ottom of the trunk you will notice that it is in wonderful shape. With no holes or cracks in the wood. Nice Ancient Antique Doll Trunk & Early Doll
This auction is for a wonderful(ancient) antique doll trunk(and it is older than the hills) and it also comes with a neat early stocking cloth doll as well. This nice old antique paper covered wooden doll trunk measures 10" x 6 1/4" and it is 5 1/2" tall and as you can see it is so old that the paper on the outside is in very rough condition- the top part of the lock has broken off- and it is pretty worn around the edges- even so it is a fantastic very early trunk. What is left of the scene on this paper covered trunk looks so fascinating and I can see a big round zodiac sign with the months of the year surrounding it on the back and it also has lots of people all around it too on the paper as well. I can make out the words on the front at the bottom e Lion. Carr- but the rest of the words are missing. The inside is pretty ... moreneat and clean and when you open it up the cover sits kind of crooked at a slight angle. Even in this condition it is a great find and it displays so beautifully. Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Working Lock& Key Here we are offering you a nice primitive refinished arch top or dome top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is an arch top since the sides of the trunk at the top are the same height as the center of the top. On dome tops. The center is a little bit taller than the sides. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. This beautiful trunk is made up of rough cut pine base wood with some type of hard wood outer slat boards, maybe poplar or birch. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in it's natural color since we did not use any stain during the refinishing ... moreprocess. We did glue a stress crack on one of the top outer slat boards. We are saying it is primitive since there is more wood showing on this trunk than fancy metal hardware. Also the boards are more crudely put together in which there are some small gaps where they joined the wood together, especially on the inside on the bottom. The rough cut boards that we speak of show the saw blade marks from the saw mill since they were not planed down when this trunk was made. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have found a key for this lock that does work properly. The front latches are original. We have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. In addition to the lock and latches, these straps secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. The side handles were on this trunk. They are metal. One is roundish in shape while the other one is a little more rectangular. We have shown a picture of the more rounded one. Very nice miniature trunk. measures 18" x about 9.25" x about 9.25" nicely lined. One ding in corner of tray. the straps are missing from the side handles(I've seen folks replace such with old weathered leather belts) nice hammered metal strips with design. no key to lock, but you can close it and open it by sliding up. there is a hinge in the corner of the inside that attaches to the lid, and a small nail is missing to attach it.modest wear on edges/ corners. Please scrutinize the photos. I believe the over-all condition is nice, not perfect, but still nice. a sweet piece at a fair price. Local pick up welcome. This is in wonderful condition and very readable. We included a picture to show you the label. We love finding these on trunks, it fills us in on a little bit of the trunk's history. Finally on the bottom of the trunk we painted all the black on that too. Also on the bottom are the four original casters that roll smoothly while moving the trunk. Nice Antique Canvas Trunk with Antique Clothing
This is an incredible find! It is an antique travel trunk with some antique clothing inside and it seems to be made of canvas over cardboard? and it has an ancient leather(broken) handle on the top(and there is also a strip on the bottom) and some leather pieces on the corners as well(one is missing. The inside is paper lined on each end and the cover is too- and then the canvas is on the rectangular bottom and on the cover as well. It measures 22" x 11.5" and it is 8" tall. It has the most wonderful look to it and I was told that it is from the late 1800's but I don't know that for sure. It is in amazing condition for its age except it has discolored with age. It has some soil spots, marks, gouges, dings, lots of wear, rust spots, tears, water marks, etc. but even with all of these things that I have mentioned it is ... morestill a very beautiful piece and I can't say enough about how beautifully it displays. It has a wonderful red, white& blue American Express Co. decal on one end and it looks like someone wrote Belfast on it and then there is a label with a hand written name on it with very beautiful writing but it is hard to tell what the name is. This rectangular antique case is an incredible find and this is also one of those antiques that keeps on getting better and better with age. It is a knockout! Gorgeous! Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock and key and full Interior My husband and I have refinished over 170 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. This would also make a wonderful Christmas gift for you or someone that you cherish. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we installed a new lock with 2 working keys. The lid has the original picture and original label. The label has written on in"Baer's Evansville Trunk Factory" Evansville. A Ladycomet Nice Refinished Victorian Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Key
Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a nice refinished steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one has a very fancy working lock. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/4 inches. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and make it look nice. The wood is in pretty good condition considering the age of this trunk and there are some typical stress cracks in the base wood. We have shown a close up picture of some of these stress cracks on the top. The majority of the trunks have similar stress cracks. This trunk maker did a nice job of running metal banding ... moreon this trunk. By doing so, it gives the trunk a nice wooden sectioned appearance. Some of the metal banding was missing, so we have filled these areas with glue to make up for the missing banding. The front latches are original cast iron ones and do work properly since the springs are intact. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Someone has added a lock hasp on the front of the trunk next to the fancy lock. We decided to leave it there since it appears to be fairly old and you could use a padlock with this hasp to secure the lid of the trunk to the base in addition to the fancy working lock. The lock is fancy in which it has embossed and carved patterns on it. There is a close up picture showing this unique lock. We did match up a key that does work with this lock. We are calling this trunk a flat top, although this trunk has a very slight factory arch to the top which is noticeable in ths close up side view picture. Vintage flat top steamer trunk dates back to late 1800's or early 1900's as indicated by lock made by Corbin Lock Co. Lock is marked Corbin. No key. Trunk is in good condition, measures approximately 17 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 32" with side leather handles worn off but pieces attached. Clasp hinges lock in place, keys not included. 4 metal plated rollers on bottom may have had wood around them. Top insert with compartment measures 12 3/4" W x 5 1/4" Deep. Refinished Civil War Era Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest Very Nice
I am listing a Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Civil War Era Trunk. This trunk is probably from the mid 1870's period. As some of the hardware is marked 1872. T he trunk's dimensions are from left to right across the front- 26 inches. From floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 inches. I have removed all of the original paper that covered this trunk, inside and out. The trunk is made entirely up of pine wood. The wood has been finished with three coats of clear lacquer. The wood is in great shape with a couple of stress cracks in various places which are quite common on trunks this old. This one comes with the original tray. The front latches are also original and do work. The side handles are really unique and quite rare to see anymore. They are made of wood and are usually broke. These ... morere in excellent shape. However, I did put a fresh coat of Tung oil over the entire trunk and have repainted all the hardware with a flat black paint and it really looks great. Very solid trunk all around, nicely built, hinges are strong, all hardware is included. The handles have been replaced with new 3-ply leather for many more years of life. The interior of this trunk is a simple pattern with a vintage print attached in the top. The wallpaper does have some minor staining, but nothing serious. It has been stripped to the bare wood on the inside and out and is a very clean trunk. This is a very uniquely beautiful Trunk. It has a wonderful patina about it that is accented by the hardware around it. It still has a few travel stickers on it on the outside. Most are worn and the writing is not legiable. The inside is very nice. It is labeled Wilkins Trunk Mfg Co. Measurements are as follows. 40" Long 22" Wide 12" Depth The Condition is hard to describe. The way it looks now makes it a uniquely interesting piece. I would say its in good condition overall. The front latch does not close properly and it has dings and scuffs from use. It still opens well no rust. I count two cracks on the top of the trunk. Not deep but they are there and one cup stain. Antique Trunk Nice Restoration Patented 1872 &1881 As much as 133 Yrs Old!
For sale today is a very nicely restored large humpback trunk. I found two patent dates of 1872 and 1881. One was on the mechanical latches and one on the hardware which makes this neat old trunk as much as 133 years old- a true antique. This trunk has a presence to it. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the metal bottom is good. Has had multiple coats of paint applied and has the three original skids. The three original hinges are tight, polished, work well and the lid closes well. There is a new black leather lid lifter on the trunk. The lid stay is original. There are 45 pieces of polished original hardware on the trunk. The center lock is original, has been polished and there is no key. The mechanical latches have been polished, are tight, fancy, HD and work well. The original tray is long gone and ... morethe interior has been removed. The metal/tin is smooth and in good condition. Th ere are fourteen solid oak slats on the trunk. Two new black leather handles were installed with the original hardware. Here pictured is an antique barrel-top steamer trunk. Measures approx. 37" across. 21.5" back-to-front, and 25" high(from base to top of barrel arch) Made of vertical slats(approx. 1.75" wide) Has a compartment inside the lid. Two(2) Railway Express Co. stickers grace one end. Casters(original, I believe) on bottom. The amber glass coasters seen in the photos are NOT the casters; the amber glass coasters are there just to keep the trunk off the rug, but you can have them, if you like) One leather strap is missing; the remaining one is intact, but split. The lock is by Eagle Lock Co. Terryville, Conn. USA, but there is no key, sorry. The interior needs some work, as you can see. The exterior has been preserved nicely; oiled but NOT painted. Nice Antique Trunk With "Paris" & American Railway Express Labels F & S Trunk Co
This early trunk was just dug out from a great local estate. This one has early paper labels on it. The Paris one as pic shows is the Gran Hotel Paris. This label is on the front as pic shows. On the top is an American Railway Express sticker from Littleton. N.H. There are actually a few of those labels on outside as pics show. Also on the outside is a larger Bogota sticker. Inside top cover is an old label mostly missing. All there is to make out is F S.Furers of.5 year.the letters TEE. And under that is the word solid. Tray is complete with a lift up lid on each side. The handles are gone and over time someone put rope handles on. It measures 28" wide X 18" deep X 13" tall. All straps are there and complete. This trunk is in solid condition but can use a cleaning. Antique Refinished Cabin Steamer Trunk - small nice size
This small trunk is darling. Recently refinished. It is rustic but shows great character and will offer great storage space for all your wonderful treasures. Wood on the outside and lined with a fresh light yellow cotton fabric, this old steamer trunk came from a barn in Western Massachusetts. The top has some age cracks but they have been firmed up on the inside. Originally canvas covered. The old green canvas was removed and the wood sanded smooth. It was treated with Golden Oak stain and Tung Oil, the finish is very nice, smooth flat and not shiny. Measurements are: 30 inches long. 17.5 inches wide and 12.5 inches tall. Great as a coffee table, or under a window for plants. As mentioned the inside is clean and ready to store your favorite collectibles. Louis Vuitton antique steamer trunk unrestored and in very good condition. It measures 36"W x 21"D x 22"H. The trunk serial number is 45312 and the lock serial number is 03992. This trunk has been in my family since it was purchased new. The exterior covering is the red dot Damier pattern. The leather strap is pretty much gone on this one. But the other leather pieces are intact. It has many dividers and compartments. The internal straps are ok except one fabric handle on one of the pull out shelves is torn off. The diamond shape fabric pattern on the inside of the lid has a few missing pieces. You can see this in the photos. Overall it is in very good condition inside and out. I did not find any patent dates patent dates on this trunk and based on my research and 40 plus years experience restoring trunks i would say this trunk is circa the late 1880's to early 1920's which makes this neat old waterfall as much as 134 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid.
